Did you know 100% of Dolmio tomatoes are grown outdoors in the sun (not in greenhouses)? Dolmio want to get you and your children growing your own tomatoes this summer and have asked us to find 100 of you who are willing to do so. All you will need is a sunny windowsill and some water!

If you are selected for this project you will be sent a pack of tomato seeds.

We'd ask for you to send in some photos of your tomatoes growing at different stages and to add your feedback to a thread on Mumsnet. The photos will be used on the forthcoming Dolmio pages on Mumsnet where you will be able to find out more about the Dolmio products. We'll be asking you to add feedback a few times during the lifecycle of your tomatoes.

Everyone who takes part in this project and who adds their feedback and sends in at least one photo will be entered into a prize draw to win one of two £200 John Lewis vouchers and a Dolmio hamper (to be mailed out in September).

To apply to take part please add your details here. We will email those selected. Seeds will be sent out w/c 25th April.

Please note: tomatoes grown from seed can be grown in any size garden providing they are in a warm, sheltered spot.

Dolmio are also running events at various locations - for more info click here

Good luck and thanks

I have planted all of them, spread into 8 pots. Will thin out shoots as and when they appear. They are currently on my kitchen windowsill because surely it is too cold to put them straight outside?

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 02/05/2011 14:07

I'm so over all these bank holidays stopping the post. STILL waiting for my seeds so I can get planting with DS. (yes feeling a bit Envy of seeds and esp the sprouts!)

whomovedmychocolate · 02/05/2011 14:23

Suspect my shoots may be contaminated compost Blush

Will wait and see - last year I grew aubergines and when they flowered they were courgettes. I am not the world's best gardener but I am grateful for anything that survives.

My potatoes are looking marvellous though. :)

frazzledblob · 02/05/2011 14:31

lol at the aubergines turning out to be courgettes.

That's part of the fun growing stuff with kids - its all wait and see what happens as DD just chucks the seeds in and if they grow they grow. Grin

Have we been sent the link for where we need to give feedback yet? I had the email saying you have been selected but I don't think I have received anything else yet.

droitwichmummy · 02/05/2011 14:43

I planted 15 in a seed tray with a lid in my little greenhouse (its one of those with the green plastic cover).
I was wondering where they wanted the photos sending as well.

Sympathies chocolate with your aubergines which were courgettes. I had a labelling fiasco month where my carefully written labels vanished when I watered them. I have some shoots which I think are parsnips but could be courgettes, and I have some courgettes which look a lot like beans!

AlmaMartyr · 02/05/2011 15:29

I planted mine on Thursday in a heated propagator and have 20 odd seedlings today. I always tend to kill plants when they're at the 'ready to move outside' stage though. DD very excited about baby tomato plants but upset they're not growing tomatoes yet!

whomovedmychocolate · 02/05/2011 16:06

Ah it's all part of the fun, playing 'what will this be when it grows up'. Grin

I think when you have small children it's enough not to have the seedlings sat on by tots, so anything that actually grows big enough to eat is a bonus.

Bicnod · 03/05/2011 13:08

Finally planted mine today in a tray thingy with a lid. Fingers crossed for some seedlings :)

JetLi · 04/05/2011 20:37

Hi - got my seeds and picked up a little seed starter propagator thingy on Asda today. Hopefully I should be able to get stuff planted tomorrow.

Has everyone got the gardeners delight variety? Am thinking I should be planting some basil alongside.

Smile
AlmaMartyr · 05/05/2011 07:31

Pretty much all my seeds have germinated now, so have lots of leggy little seedlings. I've moved them out of the heated propagator and on to a nice sunny windowsill for now although I think I'll need to get some little pots to move them into (I have loads around but they're all full of chillis atm).

Jetli - good idea about the basil!

moonbells · 05/05/2011 10:23

Mine are sown, though since I'm away next week and DH has many times pointed out he would concrete the entire garden if he was allowed to, I do not hold out much hope for them being alive when I get back. Actually I'll settle for him and DS to be alive, but you know what I mean!

I deliberately only sowed a dozen so I can restart if necessary...

ouryve · 05/05/2011 10:32

DS planted his a week ago and we have shoots in one of the pots. He's not taken much interest since we did the planting, though. The waiting seems to be the boring bit for such an impatient boy!
