NOW CLOSED: Do you wash-up by hand? Would you like to try new Fairy Clean and Care with a touch of Olay softness and have the chance to win a £250 John Lewis voucher?

Fairy Clean and Care, with a Touch of Olay softness, have asked us to find 200 Mumsnetters who would like to try their new product.

Fairy are looking for Mumsnetters who wash up by hand (or whose DH's/ kids do Smile) and who don't normally wear rubber gloves. It doesn't matter if you normally buy Fairy or another brand.

Fairy say: "We have teamed up with the skin care specialists and experts at Olay and utilised their research and expertise to provide a daily solution for improving the skins softness, resulting in noticeably softer hands. The new washing up liquid contains a skin conditioning polymer also used in some well known beauty brands' cleaners and body washes. The 'beauty' ingredient acts as a protective layer on your skin, yet rinses clean off your dishes so that they are still squeaky clean".

If you are selected for the product test all we ask is that you try the product for a couple of weeks and then add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet.

Everyone who is part of the test and who adds feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky winner will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

Everyone who is selected will be sent one of the four available fragrances: Aloe and Cucumber, Silk and Orchid, Almond and Peach and Mandarin.

If you would like to take part in this project please add your details here

Thanks
MNHQ

Still haven't got any here, so I'm making DH wash up with cheapy, hand drying stuff...

orangina · 01/11/2010 17:23

I got the almond one, which looks and smells more like a shower cream....

I don't really like my washing up liquid opaque and pearly, I prefer it transparent and fresh looking.....

But, it does the job, smells nice (but wierd on pots and pans), and I think might not dry my hands out quite as much as Ecover (my normal washing up liquid).

Not sure I would buy it again, though if I was faced with it in the supermarket and no Ecover available, I might got for it again (better the devil you know, than the devil you don't.....)

Is this the official feedback thread?

(duh)

ThisIsMyTruth · 01/11/2010 18:15

I got the (purple) orchid one. I don't like the opaque-ness - good quality in a hand soap/moisturiser, but doesn't look 'right' for washing up liquid. Feels a bit gloopy, and sticky in the water.
Washes well though, and doesn't leave a residue. Not noticed much difference in my hands, though I 'feel' better that my hands aren't in 'normal' washing up liquid.
Main negative though is the fragrance - way too strong, quite off putting.
I would not buy if I saw it in a supermarket, despite the Olay connection (and I use Olay!), bcause I like my washing up liquid to be transparent and fresh, and one sniff would put me off.
Sorry!
Would be interested in a less opaque/citrus one with moisturising properties though...

We received the green one (Aloe and Cucumber) last week and have been using it since. I like the smell, it's fresh and not overpowering at all. If anything, I wish it was slightly stronger. The colour isn't really too off-putting, although I guess it does look like bath creme. I was sort of expecting that though.

It does wash up well, no residue on the dishes. Gives lots of bubbles without needing to use loads of liquid so that's nice.

I didn't notice any immediate difference to my hands but a week on, they are softer than they were before I started using it and look in slightly better condition so I'm quite impressed!

Not sure if I'd use it regularly, depends a lot on cost really. If it was only slightly more expensive, I probably would since I wash up several times a day and hate having dry hands. I'd like to try the peach and mandarin, the others sound a bit heavy really and I prefer washing-up liquid to smell quite fresh.

southeastastra · 02/11/2010 11:55

i really like mine and nearly used it up (have been using to wash filler off my hands too) but have to admit that i'd go back to original green fairy and i like the colour better (shallow)

tunise · 02/11/2010 12:03

Oh i think i may be a fairy convert. i normally use supermarket own brand. I sampled the purple one and really liked it. gets things easily clean, smells nice and my hands are less dry than normal. It also seems to be lasting a lot longer than my usual brand. Will keep my eyes open for any special offers i think.

Hammy01 · 02/11/2010 12:31

I received the orange one (can't rememember the name) and it lives up to my expectation of getting the pots clean etc. However, couldn't really smell the fragrance and haven't noticed an overall difference in the softness to my hands, but then it is winter and my hands get so dry. Feel if I was testing this in the summer my hands would be softer as not battling against the wind, rain and cold testing it now!
I love Fairy anyway as its better than other brands I've tried but I tend to bulk buy when on offer and being a mum of 2 on a budget (as everyone is) I wouldn't generally pay more than £1 for my washing up liquid - so if this is expensive probably won't buy it.

lottiejenkins · 02/11/2010 17:12

I got the silk and orchid one, the smell is lovely but the bubbles didnt stay very long!

stressheaderic · 02/11/2010 17:13

I received the green one - aloe vera and cucumber, which is probably the one I'd buy, I'm not keen on lavender or the pinky orchid one.

I'm about halfway through the bottle and I like it. The bubbles feel 'softer' somehow, and my hands feel less rough afterwards. They don't feel noticably softer, but definitely not as rough as after using any other w/u liquid.

I usually buy the Clean and Care Fairy anyway, so I would probably buy this product, if it wasn't stupidly overpriced because of the Olay branding. I expect it will be about £1.50, but if it was 2 for £2.25 or something similar, I would buy it. I hate cheap, thin w/u liquid and I am quite brand-loyal to Fairy. The only negative is that it didn't really smell of anything.

NotShortImFunSized · 02/11/2010 17:23

I have the Peach and Mandarin one. It looks lovely in the bottle and also smells nice if sniffed from bottle, maybe a little too sweet, not really into sweet washing up liquid but by no means a nasty smell. Once you have put it in the water there really isn't a fragrance at all though Hmm

I always get sore hands after washing up, they go very dry and I get red/cracked knuckles BUT since using this I have had none of that. Even after washing up at least 4 times a day. I am a very happy bunny Grin

Also has the usual fab Fairy bubbles so no complaints there.

I would change to this even if it were a bit more expensive as it saves me having to wear manky washing up gloves Wink

ohmeohmy · 02/11/2010 18:05

i got almond. Yuck. Reminiscent of marzipan which I hate. Don't like overperfumed products. Using it up washing boxes of old lego and going back to ecover.

MadameCastafiore · 02/11/2010 18:11

I got peach and mandarin and really have a bit of a thing about washing up liquid as I am allergic to rubber so can;t wear gloves.

I love it - smells lovely, looks really pretty (although would buy the green one as mayches kitchen then - sad OCD woman that I am).

My hands feel a lot softer and the horrid peely cracked skin I get around my rings (tasteful platinum I'll have you know just in case you were picturing my hands encased in multiple sovereigns! Wink) is gone!!

DH even did his yearly token bit of washing up last night and said that his hands felt all nice - 'Like a girls!' - not usre which girls but there you go - for DH to notice something different i this house something must be right!

manyskillz · 02/11/2010 19:20

Finally got round to collecting my package from the sorting office. I got the Aloe and Cucumber one but I have to say I don't love it. Seems to do an ok job on the dishes but no better than the cheapo own brand stuff I usually use.

I'm also not very keen on the smell. It's just a bit neither here nor there, although the smell of synthetic cucumber is rarely one I like. My hands seem slightly softer, but realistically I'd need to see a really noticeable improvement to fork out the extra.

TeaRocks · 02/11/2010 19:51

I got the peach and mandarin one, too - I agree with NotShort, it doesn't smell a great deal once it's in the water.

The main difference I noticed is that the bubbles seem extra white and sparkly, which is nice but not one of my main demands on washing up liquid!

It cleans well, but my hands aren't really much softer. Basically, although I liked it, it didn't really stand out against other Fairy liquids or supermarket own ones that I've used.

gothicmama · 02/11/2010 19:57

I had the almond one We like the smell and it looks like it should be gentle on your skin. So far it my skin appears to be less dried out than usual .

Silk and Orchid here - the smell in the bottle is beautiful, the colour is very appealing , and you don't need very much , but the bubbles don't seem to last very long.

My hands don't feel smooth, particularly, but they haven't started cracking, which they normally do around now, and this is the only thing I've changed, so that's good enough for me!

However it is a good washing up liquid - it soaks well, and I don't seem to be having to work as hard to get dirt off dishes Grin

Its £1.50 and two for £2.50 in Asda at the moment - that's probably more than I would normally spend on a washing up liquid, but am pleased with the quality of the product, so I would probably consider it.

PuzzleRocks · 03/11/2010 08:29

I received the Silk & Orchid bottle. Many thanks.

It's a fairly pleasant smell, not too overpowering and DH didn't grumble about it when he was washing up so that's a good sign.

I'm not keen on the Barbara Cartland colour but that's irrelevant I suppose since I don't display it like a kitchen ornament. Wink

I am impressed at how little is needed for a good lather. I have tried cheaper brands in the past and they have always been a false economy.
I am a loyal Fairy customer but whether I would switch from the usual stuff to the Touch of Olay would entirely depend on price.

I am assuming that it will be slightly more expensive and so would want that difference to be reflected in savings I made on hand cream. Unfortunately I still need to slather on afterwards. This may owe more to the changing weather though so I would be prepared to purchase a few bottles before making a firm decision.

Thanks to Fairy & MNHQ

Also got the almond one. Not really convinced- agree with earlier comments that it smells and feels like shower gel. Seems to leave the washing up feeling slightly greasy. Alright for washing hands, but from the point of view of skin reaction (I do react to a lot of soaps etc), I would rather continue to use Ecover- feels less artificial.

kveta · 03/11/2010 13:59

we got the almond one, and for some reason have the aloe one already at home - I think telling DH I was getting some for a product test led him to buy a bottle Hmm anyway, have used both, and I like them - not sure thay are noticably better for washing dishes than supermarket own brands, but they feel luxurious - and the almond one does smell surprisingly nice. I was worried it might be cloying, as many almondy things are, but it's quite gentle.

Cyclebump · 03/11/2010 14:06

I got the peachy one. It arrived just in time as our bottle of conventional Fairy was running out.

I was incredibly sceptical but I must admit I'm reaching for the hand cream less often after doing the washing up and the smell is less chemically than most scented washing stuff.

It's less bubbly than the standard stuff and I have had to use more than I would if it was bog-standard green Fairy but the smell and nicer feeling hands are a bonus.

Depending on the price difference I'd consider buying it.

gorionSPARKLERS · 03/11/2010 14:10

Do we give the feed back on here or wait for a thread with specific questions from fairy people?

butterflymum · 03/11/2010 14:14

Just what I was wondering too, sparklers.

butterflymum · 03/11/2010 14:15

..and just remembered....they did ask that we use it for two weeks, so maybe the feedback thread is yet to come.

ShinySoloSparklySolo · 03/11/2010 17:05

Yes, you are right butterflymum. Am still using my Fairy, so can feedback again :)
