NOW CLOSED: Do you wash-up by hand? Would you like to try new Fairy Clean and Care with a touch of Olay softness and have the chance to win a £250 John Lewis voucher?

Fairy Clean and Care, with a Touch of Olay softness, have asked us to find 200 Mumsnetters who would like to try their new product.

Fairy are looking for Mumsnetters who wash up by hand (or whose DH's/ kids do Smile) and who don't normally wear rubber gloves. It doesn't matter if you normally buy Fairy or another brand.

Fairy say: "We have teamed up with the skin care specialists and experts at Olay and utilised their research and expertise to provide a daily solution for improving the skins softness, resulting in noticeably softer hands. The new washing up liquid contains a skin conditioning polymer also used in some well known beauty brands' cleaners and body washes. The 'beauty' ingredient acts as a protective layer on your skin, yet rinses clean off your dishes so that they are still squeaky clean".

If you are selected for the product test all we ask is that you try the product for a couple of weeks and then add feedback to a thread on Mumsnet.

Everyone who is part of the test and who adds feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky winner will win a £250 John Lewis voucher.

Everyone who is selected will be sent one of the four available fragrances: Aloe and Cucumber, Silk and Orchid, Almond and Peach and Mandarin.

If you would like to take part in this project please add your details here

Thanks
MNHQ

Mine just arrived (purple - silk and orchid).

Neighbour had taken it in when it came while we were out Smile

First impressions

Mine arrived very early this morning on the first day of half term, devastated to miss my lie in!

I have silk & orchid, lovely colour and at first I liked the smell, seemed more noticeable around sink area than other fragrances. We have been making cakes today so lots of washing up, eldest daughter at first showed great interest in washing up just to use it, that didn't last long.

My hands do not feel softer, the bubbles in the bowl did though! I started off really liking the smell but it was a bit much after a while I thought.

I shall return after using it a bit longer

I received my product yesterday, Aloe and Cucumber. So pleased to receive some to test and leave feedback on.

Great !

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 26/10/2010 20:18

Got mine today - I got the almond one. I quite liked the smell and the bubbles definitely felt softer.

I have a bit of a sensitivity to washing up liquid (and other cleaning products) so I don't tend to do the washing up very often as my hands get quite sore and dry.

But, much to DH's astonishment, I did two sets of dishes today to test it out. I don't know if my hands are 'softer' but, they're definitely not as sore as they would normally be. The bubbles had good staying power too.

I will get DH to tell me what he thinks when things return to normal and he resumes washing up duties [hgrin]

ISayISayISay · 26/10/2010 20:27

I received Silk and Orchid this morning.

First impressions: I like the colour but it took me back a bit to start with as I'm used to the traditional green, I don't think it was the colour so much as the pearlescent-ness of it. It looks like bath creme. I soon got used to the look though and have used it about 5-6 times today so far. I do like the feel of the bubbles, they feel creamy, and you only seem to need to use a little bit at a time, but so far I haven't noticed any difference in my hands which are often dry.

Will keep using though, wouldn't expect to see a dramatic improvement in hand-smoothness after only one day.

Summary: pretty good so far, no negatives.

I am trying the Aloe and Cucumber washing up liquid. I really like it, agree with the poster who said it looks more like bath stuff. It produces loads of bubbles and smells lovely, I have to admit that I was tempted to run a bath! I haven't had to use moisturiser today and I normally have really dry skin on my hands. Dishes clean..what's not to like (I'm guessing the price but I am pretty tight!)

serenity · 26/10/2010 20:31

I'm hoping mine comes tomorrow, as otherwise I've got to go out and buy some! I suppose I could just not do any washing up for a couple of days... Grin

craftynclothy · 27/10/2010 17:33

We've got the aloe & cucumber one too. It looks incredibly bubbly in the bottle. Dh used it yesterday (I was ill) and said it wasn't as bubbly as he expected when actually using it. I'm going to try it tonight.

CoffinsTooNarrow · 28/10/2010 10:26

Cor, it's a bit, er, fragrant

I feel like I have been punched in the nose by a bunch of flowers is my constructive and helpful feedback so far Grin

TigerFeet · 28/10/2010 10:36

I've got the almond one. Very odd fragrance for a washing up liquid imo, not unpleasant, but it's a bit discombobulating when one's washing up water smells of over sweet frangipane.

I've been using it for a couple of days and I'm reasonably impressed. It keeps its foam well and cleans well too, my hands aren't softer as such but feel less dry and the skin round my knuckles seems less prone to cracking.

I like it but suspect it will be £££ and it would appear that I am a traditionalist when it comes to washing up liquid fragrance. Fairy green or lemon fresh for me.

shelleylou · 28/10/2010 10:40

I got the peach and mandarin. As someone else said its very pearlescent.Fragrance is lovely. Soft creamy bubble which last. My hads didnt feel as grubby and dirty after using it. Cant comment too much on if they are softer as I haven't really done many dishes as I've been ill and DH hasnt told me lol

Grizzlylou · 28/10/2010 10:47

I have the silk and orchid one, it smells lovely.
The whole kitchen smells of it when you're washing up, which is good. Hands feel OK after washing up and not as dry as usual, they smell nice too.
However, DH has decided the fragrance is too girly for him to wash up now Hmm

bloodychocoholic · 28/10/2010 11:24

I got the cucumber one.

It is lovely and bubbly but the smell is a bit nothing really. It's not offensive but a bit bland if anything. I wouldn't go out of my way to choose it because of it's scent.
I do like the colour and the pearly look of the liquid though.
The best thing about it is that it does actually make my hands feel much softer. DH has really badly chapped hands in the winter so, if he does ever wash up, I'll get his input too!

I will happily finish off the bottle and then I think I may try one of the other scents so a bit of a success here.

PfftTheMildySpookyDragon · 28/10/2010 14:33

Are we feedbacking here or to a specific thread?

Gory09 · 29/10/2010 09:10

AreYouAFreudOfTheDark · 30/10/2010 21:34

Just got back from holiday to find the purple bottle had arrived - DH has been using it as he couldnt come with us. He says it's nice so I'm looking forward to trying it. I've never done a feedback thread before, is this where we put feedback or will there be a new thread?

Aliarse · 31/10/2010 17:29

I really like mine. My hands feel soft for about an hour and a half afterwards. And the silk and orchid one has a lovely smell. it is a bit runny though and I seem to use a lot in the sink. i would change to this though.

posey · 31/10/2010 19:40

I got the almond one which I have to say I find a bit of an odd fragrance for washing up. Like TigerFeet I prefer a fresh lemon or lime smell, more "traditional" washing up liquid smells.
I also haven't seen an obvious change in the state of my hands. I recently have been buying bog-standard fairy as its been on special offer, and I certainly think that that change, from shops own brands, did improve the softness of my hands. But apart from the smell, I can't say either dh or I have reported any improvements or changes between the 2 Fairies.

ISayISayISay · 01/11/2010 08:34

Ok I've been using it nearly a week.

I really like it overall. Mainly because my hands do feel soft. There's no dry skin, no cracks, no ridges, no skin peeling off, no stinging when I use hand cream. This is pretty unusual for this time of year. Perhaps I wouldn't expect them to be quite as bad as the above (though they get like that about once a month in winter) by only now in the year but it cannot be a coincidence that actually, they feel "normal" and far nicer than normal. I genuinely think the skin on my hands looks younger and definitely feels softer.

I'm still not sure about the fragrance (and DH's feedback is that it's far too whiffy and leaves the dishes themselves smelling of bath stuff) and whilst the colour was a surprise as I'm more used to the traditional stuff I actually think that, assuming the price wasn't way inflated, I'd buy this product. And tbh having tried it (and assuming the results keep up the rest of the bottle) I'd probably pay quite a premium. Though you'd have had trouble persuading me to pay extra for a bottle to try it.

MaryBS · 01/11/2010 08:37

I got the peach and mandarin. Absolutely LOVE the smell! As for feeling softer, they did, sort of, but I found my fingertips got wrinklier quicker, as if its stripping the oils out of the skin (like when you've been in the bath too long). For this reason, I'd probably stick to using normal Fairy.

MarsLady · 01/11/2010 16:01

I got silk and orchid which smells gorgeous.

I've been away so only just started using it. The whole hand thing means nothing to me as I use gloves when washing by hand. I did use it to wash my hands after handling chicken and yes, my hands felt softer in the moment but I still needed to use hand cream as it made my hands dry.

I probably wouldn't rush out to buy it, but it is rather lovely.

ShinySoloSparklySolo · 01/11/2010 16:54

Almond here.

Very nice scent, very soft suds too and I think it is far more bubbly and soapy than my usual Fairy, but like MaryBS, my finger tips got wrinkly quickly too (thought it waas me!).

I haven't noticed my hands being any softer than with my usual lavender Fairy (which I haven't found on the shelves recently :()so I doubt I'd rush out to buy it either.

Very glad to try it out though ~ thank you :) and it wont go to waste!

Guidoinsteadnow · 01/11/2010 17:01

I got almond. This is the one I was most sceptical about! It smells far too sweet and sickly when you sniff the bottle, but is alot better once its in the water; I didnt really notice the smell at all really. Its a good cleaning product. I do love Fairy, but I cant say as my hands feel any different to normal. If I bought it just as a washing up liquid, I'd be happy. If I'd been swayed by the olay angle, I'd be a bit Hmm . But I'd still rather have a more clinical smell. almond isnt right for a cleaning thing.
