Did you watch Swap Shop or Tiswas?

And are you comfortable with your current status as 'thinking woman's crumpet'?

oh, that's two. Hey ho.

PS my favourite bit of your entire oeuvre is the 'Shitiquette' section at the back of the TV Go Home book. It is genius.

[and I SWORE I wouldn't fawn, like everyone else has]

dear charlie, when did you teach victor lewis smith everything you know?

Hi Charlie, Lovin' your work!

Anyway, do you think that the shite state of the BBC is symptomatic of, or a root cause of, the general apathy, lack of culture and widespread sheepish idiocy of the general population? I would rather eat my own face than watch mainstream TV, have you ever eaten your own face? If so, with what condiments?

Many thanks

This fawning is ridiculous. Come on, stop embarrassing yourselves and ask a question.

I can't imagine why he is coming on Mumsnet.
Is he promoting a book?

Hi Charlie

Oh dear GOD are you going to write about Mumsnet in your column?

(Just to clarify, that is not me wetting myself with pleasure at the thought of there being a CB/MN column....I cannot see how it could possibly go well for anyone involved )

Much as I admire Mr Brooker ... I do have to echo Mrs Ruffalo - what is with all the undignified fawning, ladies, please contain yerselves and why do you want to do a webchat on Mumsnet, Charlie Brooker?

Oh, and a supplementary question, Have you any further screenplays/ fiction writing projects in the pipeline as I loved Dead Set and though 'Misfits' on E4 is eerily visually similar...?

P.S. I still have my Oink flexidisk 'Don't eat meat cos its made of ham, eat that nasty butcher man'... genius.

shit I fawned

Charlie. As most of mumsnet, and indeed female Britain wants to worship at your feet, do you find people throwing themselves at you in real life all the time?

Report
Bigmouthstrikesagain · 21/11/2009 10:16

'don't eat pork cos it's made of ham...'

Though I would have to get the record player out from under a dangerously unstable pile of stuff to check my lyrical accuracy and Charlie probably had nowt to do with the darn flexi in the first place. Sorry - what was the level of your involvement in Oink? I loved it and it probably led to my appreciation of Viz and deadline and some of the more graphic fanzines in the early 90's.

Mr Charlie Brooker
In our house we still laugh at your description of Norris Mc Whirter as a 'walking fact shitter'. I like the words you use, especially the order you put them in, and extra especially when they're rude and offensive to people who read The Daily Mail.

My question is

Were you a complete smart arse at school who underachieved and quite frankly could have done better and can now stick two fingers up to all the teachers who said you'd never amount to anything?

I'll try to join you on Monday but I'm enjoying nappy off time with my 16 mo DS (his nappy, not mine) and may need to catch poo and mop up wee at any moment.

gillythekid · 21/11/2009 11:19

ps

Am I supposed to say I want to shag you? Will that mean my question gets asked?
Just making a mental note to add you to my 'star f*ck' list just in front of Dylan Moran (sorry Dylan)

firstly

secondly - what do you think the games industry can do to improve it's image, especially with regards to the adult gaming market?

Charlie, after the Jan Moir/Stephen Gately column you encouraged people to complain to the PCC. How do you feel your actions differ from the Daily Mail encouraging people to complain to Ofcom and the BBC over the Ross/Brand/Sachs incident? Aren't you both, effectively, demanding outrage from people?

Hello Charlie. I am, alas, unable to think of a single decent question but what is your favourite horror/zombie film? I thank you.

PS - Your article about Justin Timberlake claiming to be responsible for 'bringing sexy back' is one of the funniest things I've ever read.

Mr Brooker, here are my thoughts/questions-

You kind of remind me of Quentin Tatarantino but i don't know why.

Is he someone you're influenced by?

He's geeky too i spose but has managed to use it creatively...

What do you think about the now widely accepted practise of parading vulnerable individuals on TV and taking delight in their misfortunes in the name of light entertainment?

Do you think that Nathan Barley unwittingly sparked a type of comedy that now won'tfuckinggoaway.... i'm thinking the simpering but every so wordy white male lead characters that in real life wouldn't get laid but somehow seems to be partnered with hot yet boring female characters. It's all very insubstantial and one dimensional. I DEMAND that you personally make this stop.

That will be all.

oh bugger! ill miss it! ill be doing my specials thing...

i think speaking to him might spoil it, so i'll just stalk him quietly from a distance. i love the guardian column, but the screenwipe bit on Street Doctor was the funniest piece of TV i think ive ever seen....the "hammer toe" bit actually had me hyperventilating on the sofa.

i want charlie brookers lovechild.

Charlie it is your fault that I can't see Mick Hucknall without thinking of his testicles pressing against something transparent. I sometimes think of that image simply while passing a random window. No-one should have to go though life that way.

BUT you also gave me something that never fails to make me laugh. I can't see a rope bridge without imagining a one-armed, one-legged man trying to cross it with a lead hat on.

I miss TVGoHome.

No question. Far too intimidated.

I too had that Oink flexidisk!

Mr Brooker are you a Terry Pratchett fan? No cryptic reasoning behind that, just that they are on my mental list of peeps with common sense.

I like Lenin's question about 'edgy' comedy; Charlie, please address that point, talking into account recent contributions to the debate by David Mitchell (your only rival in the Mumsnet fawning stakes).

I also like Zepherine's question about the BBC. (Your piece after Murdoch Jr's appearance at the Edinburgh TV festival was inexpressibly fantastic.) If Cameron gets in and starts smashing up the BBC, would you be prepared to lead a monstrous regiment of peri-menopausal women in a march on Westminster? Or similar.

Report
BecauseImWorthIt · 21/11/2009 17:45

I think just the words "a monstrous regiment of peri-menopausal women" would give Mr Cameron cause to think twice about anything!
