Columnist and author Tony Parsons will be joining us here on Monday 6th October from 9-10pm for a live chat. Tony's sixth novel, 'My Favourite Wife' has just been published and is described by The Independent as 'a much bigger, more ambitious book' than million-selling 'Man and Boy'. If you can't make the chat you can post your questions in advance here.
Hope to see you here on Monday.

Tony - Quite like your books - I'll read the new one. Cyd Charisse is in one of them isn't she (well her name anyway)- any other heroes in the new book?

TonyParsons · 06/10/2008 21:15

Dear Zippitippitoes ? we had Dominos pizza tonight. Don?t tell Jamie Oliver. We were all just too knackered to think about anything else apart from a medium-sized half and half (cheese and tomato with extra cheese and BBQ Texas pizza, chicken combo, brownies for the kid). It was good ? very lightly done. THANKS FOR YOUR CULINARY QUESTION. Tony

I quite like him, I have to say. And I admit to liking Man and Boy.

Thanks very much - we'll be really pleased to have you! Maybe MumsnetHQ will pass on an email in the morning.

S1ur · 06/10/2008 21:17

zippitippitoes · 06/10/2008 21:17

ScummyMummy · 06/10/2008 21:18

I was the one who shook his reality a little and the next thing he was all lovey dovey.

No wonder I am a social worker.

mehgalegs · 06/10/2008 21:18

BIGwad were/are you Christopher Hitchins?

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 21:18

Monkeytrousers · 06/10/2008 21:18

Swede, you must be ovulating!

TonyParsons · 06/10/2008 21:19

Dear DonsDons - yes, i think secret heroes are the way to go - there is Cyd Charisse in man and Boy, who you spotted - and in My Favourite Wiufe the man is called Bill Holden (after my second favourite actor, William holden) and in the new one, Starting Over, the guy is called George Bailey - after the James Stewart character in IT's A WONDERFUL LIFE. i think that hero references can be like a sort of Masonic handshake - it is how we shall recognize each other. THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION AND FOR REMEMBERIONG THE GREATNESS OF CYD CHARISSE. Tony xxxOOO

Carmenere · 06/10/2008 21:19

Tony does your lovely wife ever come on mumsnet?

BIGwads · 06/10/2008 21:19

christopher hitchins? who the hecks that?

TonyParsons · 06/10/2008 21:19

Dear Miss Clavel ? my favourite crime authors are Patricia Highsmith, Elmore Leonard and Arthur Conan Doyle. And lately I have got into Dennis Lehane , who wrote Mystic River and Gone, Baby, Gone (good movie too, directed by Ben Affleck). All time favourite author probably Cormas McCarthy right now. THANKS FOR YOUR QUESTION. Tony

mehgalegs · 06/10/2008 21:20

Tony, kudos to you, you have managed to charm Mumsnet in just 19 mins

Wish I had a question.

Monkeytrousers · 06/10/2008 21:20

Is she MrsJohnSimm?

BitOfFun · 06/10/2008 21:20

Thanks for answering my question Tony. It's interesting that you think my name suggests self-loathing. It doesn't suggest other people loathe me though, like , say, Tony Parsehole...

SparklyPseudonym · 06/10/2008 21:20

Dear Tony,
I LOVE your books but I didn't enjoy 'Stories We Could Tell' so much. Why did you decide to change your style of writing i.e. set in 1977 and so focused on music? I loved 'Family Way' and was really suprised by how much your writing had changed - you made up with for it with 'My Favourite Wife' though.
Keep writing (but faster please!)

morningpaper · 06/10/2008 21:20
