Hi all,

We’re pleased to announce a Mumsnet Asks Zoomchat with Tory Leadership candidate Robert Jenrick MP on Tuesday 29th October at 5pm. Please post your questions below, and Justine will put a selection to Robert via Zoom.
You’ll be able to watch live by registering here but we’ll also be recording so you can catch up if you can’t make it. We won’t be able to take questions during the chat so please do make sure you post on the thread if there’s something you’d like to ask.

If you join the Zoomchat, your camera will be turned off by default. Your screen name might be visible, so consider whether you’re happy to use your real name or want to use your MN posting name - or something else entirely.

Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point (we'll be deleting questions that are repeated multiple times). We'll be limited for time so do keep questions as short as possible so that we’re able to ask more of them - as always, we'll try to make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Hi Robert,

Despite recent warnings about keeping the leadership contest 'clean and yellow cards', it feels like the tone of the Tory contest - especially over the past week - has really deteriorated, with both you and Kemi deploying personal attacks on each other. Given that, do you really think either one of you can unite the Party as Leader and looking beyond the leadership contest unite the country?

Westfacing · 29/10/2024 11:55

You've had quite a political journey from being a middle of the road, centrist, and a Remainer to now positioning yourself firmly on the right of the Tory Party; even advocating leaving the ECHR.

It's hard to believe that both these positions are from the same person.

Are you not just pandering to the elderly demographic of your party, or have you really changed so much?

Hi Robert, thanks for coming.

What is your position on net zero? How will you tackle the housing crisis and ensure that new buildings are sustainable? Are you worried about the future your children (all our children) face with increasingly unstable climate, and how does this fit with your actions on coal mining?

Hi all,

Thanks so much for all your questions - you can watch the recording of Justine's interview with Robert here.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Thank you @RhiannonEMumsnet

Thanks for asking my question. Naturally he didn't really answer the question, and he seems to think that disability benefits are all out of work benefits, which they aren't. But good to hear some acknowledgment of the complexity of the situation.

I'm trying to watch the Jenrick webinar, but there is no sound/audio. Is anyone else having problems, or can anyone advise?
Thanks.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/10/2024 16:52

It works fine for me, both earlier and now

Fashionablyolder · 30/10/2024 19:54

I wasn’t impressed with Mr Jenricks performance, seemed to me that he tries to please everyone with his comments, I’m not sure there’s much of a backbone there! I’ll be hoping Kemi Badenoch wins the leadership contest.
