RhiannonEMumsnet · 29/05/2022 12:03

Hi all,

We’re pleased to tell you that next week Justine will be sitting down with Prime Minister Boris Johnson to ask him Mumsnet users’ questions.

If you have a question you'd like answering, you can post it below. Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point. We'll be limited for time so do keep questions as short as possible so that we’re able to ask more of them - as always, we'll try to make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users.

We'll be closing this thread at noon on Monday, so please do get your questions in before that - and watch this space to hear how the Prime Minister responds.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Very pleased to hear various Ministers speak out in support of women's sex-based rights and children's safeguarding issues in the light of the Cass Review interim findings but you have been in power with a large majority for quite some time. How long is it going to take for Stonewall's undue influence on Government departments, NHS, schools etc to be rolled back?

Whiskeypowers · 29/05/2022 16:12

This will be interesting.

stopthepain · 29/05/2022 16:12

Any plans to build more affordable housing in NW England? I.e. 2 bed houses rather than expensive 4-5 bed detached new builds? My gen (younger millennials) can’t afford to get on the property ladder without parental support.

balalake · 29/05/2022 16:13

I am beginning to wonder if the meeting will not happen.

To save time here is what he will say, in no particular order:

  • I have already expressed my regret for xxxx, it is now time to move on.
  • you make a very valid point, I will see that that is investigated.
  • when the conservatives came to power xxx had suffered from years of Labour mismanagement, it takes time to set things right.
  • I Never said that.
  • I’m sorry you feel that way.
  • Here’s a feeble play on words around the name Keir Starmer.
  • aaa aaa aaa um er waffle waffle.

All of this and "I think the real question is (insert something that makes him look slightly less awful / deflects to labour but bears no resemblance to the original question here)."

As if we don't know what we really asked.

Cant wait for the PM to gaslight us. Again.

Why does the UK Government allow the Scottish Government to pursue legislation outside their devolved powers? Why don't civil servants tell them things are beyond their remit and to desist? They waste millions of taxpayers' money pursuing various matters, running up legal bills etc when they should be getting on with running schools, hospitals etc not trying to redefine what a woman is.

CheshireCats · 29/05/2022 16:18

I don't think I've got a question (that's civil anyway.)
But what is the point of asking questions of a man who is a compulsive liar?
I have never detested a Prime Minister so much before and I'm pretty old, there's been a few!
I am ashamed to be British with him at the head of our government. Having voted Conservative for almost all of my life, I will now vote for whatever party necessary to get him out. That is how strongly I feel about him. I cannot believe he is still our Prime Minister- he is an embarrassment to the UK.

CarpeVitam · 29/05/2022 16:23

How do you sleep at night?? 😡

I am beginning to wonder if the meeting will not happen.

If it starts before 9am he'll struggle to get up for it. If it's in the afternoon it might interfere with his nap.

Crispynoodle · 29/05/2022 16:28

Thinking about Jacob Rees-Mogg and Nadine Dorries, did you only appoint cabinet ministers who make you look slightly more intelligent prime minister?

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 29/05/2022 16:35

When was a PM hated so much and yet will probably be re-elected due to our incompetent voting system.
We preach about democracy but we don't practice it.

I didn't know about the widows pension but if any sensible questions are going to be asked then this is mine. We know that he has chosen to not help those in society that need it most (agree that the carers allowance is a fucking joke) but to actively remove something that already existed that supports bereaved children is disgraceful.

yesthatisdrizzle · 29/05/2022 16:51

What is a man?

How do you see the future for NI?

How can he justify the uplift for UC claimants during covid but not give the same to disabled people on legacy benefits?

There was a High Court case, a petition - the government responded that the uplift was for those who had to claim UC due to the pandemic but EVERYONE on UC got the uplift regardless of when they started claiming.

It took me 9 months to receive ESA and lost my home of 20yrs in the process as I couldn't pay my mortgage. I wasn't offered UC as it wasn't in my area at the time in 2017. Because my ESA claim took so long and contributed to my breakdown, I didn't dare switch to UC as I could have been left with nothing. If I had switched and got the uplift, I would have been able to buy groceries instead of relying on help from the food bank and friends during those 18 months of the uplift.

Its taken me 7 months to claim for PIP from last year. I was living on £520 a month on ESA until then - all bills, food, etc. Try doing that for a while, Prime Minister - no heating, no lights, not showering, not cooking and that was before the energy price increase.

So, in short, why did he give the uplift to ALL UC claimants instead of just those with new claims from the start of that scheme? He needs to recompense we legacy benefit recipients in line with everyone on UC.

kittensinthekitchen · 29/05/2022 17:01

@OldTinHat

Yes, I'd also really like to hear his thoughts on the decision to deprive legacy benefit claimaints (commonly disabled or caring for someone disabled) from the £20 a week uplift UC were given.

BlessedByTheShitFairy · 29/05/2022 17:02

Boris is a brazen boy, isnt he?
Sadly I will opt out of this one, It almost soils MN for me.

LibbyOTV · 29/05/2022 17:07

You and the Chancellor Rishi Sunak talk a lot about jobs being the way to 'help people' and how much unemployment has gone down. However, will you admit that many of these jobs are very poor quality, such as zero hour contracts, and/or are poorly paid? I see mothers here every week it seems saying that they cannot afford to work because of the cost of childcare, how do you plan to 'help' these women by creating jobs if childcare in the UK is so expensive and badly designed that it pushes women out of work? Thanks.

TheWitcheytoeLinesman · 29/05/2022 17:07

What steps do you personally take to ensure you are as educated as possible about the situation less well-off majority of families are experiencing? Ian Duncan Smith and Matthew Parris famously tried to live on benefits for a short time and struggled. How can we trust our political classes to make the right decisions, when they seem so detached from the everyday struggles of millions?

onanotherday · 29/05/2022 17:08

Why are many SEND children being off rolled and what does my 18 son who is very bright do an not course at college will let him join due to no GCSEs even though he could have done these with the right support.

dizzydizzydizzy · 29/05/2022 17:19

What would you think if, like me, you had to wait 41 months for an ASD assessment and didn't have a spare £2k to go private?

BlessedMess · 29/05/2022 17:29

How much does Wilf’s childcare cost?

OversBo · 29/05/2022 17:33

Do you work for the Russians?

KindleAndCake · 29/05/2022 17:39

Why aren't carers given a living wage and pension. We save the government millions by caring for our loved ones, yet £67 a week is a pittance. And yes, I could work, but I care for more than one person, and I am only able to claim for one lot of carers allowance. Plus I cannot put into a private pension fund on £67 a week.

Ten pages in and we've got one he can answer Grin
