MNHQ here: got a question for the Prime Minister?

RhiannonEMumsnet · 29/05/2022 12:03

Hi all,

We’re pleased to tell you that next week Justine will be sitting down with Prime Minister Boris Johnson to ask him Mumsnet users’ questions.

If you have a question you'd like answering, you can post it below. Please stick to the usual guidelines - one question per user, keep it civil, and if one topic is dominating, please don't continue to post what's effectively the same question or point. We'll be limited for time so do keep questions as short as possible so that we’re able to ask more of them - as always, we'll try to make sure we cover the topics that we know are important to Mumsnet users.

We'll be closing this thread at noon on Monday, so please do get your questions in before that - and watch this space to hear how the Prime Minister responds.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Are you relying on food banks to solve/hide the economical issues caused by your government?

Are you planning to use Ukraine’s war as a cover up for problems caused by Brexit and energy prices hikes that were an issue months before Putin invaded?

ShandaLear · 29/05/2022 14:28

I don’t like the law on speeding on motorways and would like to unilaterally change it so I can just apologise instead of getting 3 points on my licence and having to on a speed awareness class in a Holiday Inn in Portsmouth. How do I go about doing that?

fyn · 29/05/2022 14:28

I’d like to ask what more the government can do to help military families?

We have been unable to access any dental treatment for our three year posting and are about to move again setting us back to the start.

Military families aren’t eligible for the £150 energy rebate despite many being paid below the national average salary.

Childcare stops lots of military spouses working. I’m lucky to have a very flexible job but childcare costs are often prohibitive to working. We don’t have any family to help and long deployments often come at short notice. My husband is currently on an open ended deployment for which he was given less than a weeks notice. They will total 18 months in the last two years. What more can the government do to help families who make huge sacrifices for this country?

GetThatHelmetOn · 29/05/2022 14:31

Do you think £400 energy grant is enough to shut us up?

larkstar · 29/05/2022 14:36

First you could poll us to ask the mumsneterati if you want the site to talk to him. Life long, dyed-in the wool politicians ask him questions all the time - he will say what you want to hear, say what he wants to say (regardless of the truth), slip questions and avoid giving clear unequivocal answers, etc - really - what is the point? 6 months later - his answers will mean nothing - well - less than nothing. A response I'd support would be to tell him your site users decided they didn't want to listen to anything he has to say. Surely you or the site users can think of someone worthwhile talking to. Talking to BJ really is a total waste of time IMHO. Try a female journalist, politician, activist, writer, artist... this list is endless.

balalake · 29/05/2022 14:36

How do you plan to restore the Northern Ireland executive?

catsonahottinroof · 29/05/2022 14:37

What was the intention behind the series of videos you made with puns on the 'Build Back Better' slogan eg 'Build Back Butter', 'Build Back Bitter' etc? Was it to make fun of the the other world leaders, or to highlight their behaviour to the populace?

kittensinthekitchen · 29/05/2022 14:39

Mr Johnston, what is your daily haircare routine? What products do you use?

Libertaire · 29/05/2022 14:40

My question for the PM :

If I think the price of energy & fuel should be lowered by cutting fuel duty, removing VAT & so-called ‘green’ taxes from energy bills, if I don’t want government handouts of borrowed money to pay my bills, if I want the NI increase to be cancelled, if I want smaller government and much lower levels of income tax, then who should I vote for?

yesthatisdrizzle · 29/05/2022 14:41

Why on Earth is BBC4 being axed?

HermioneWeasley · 29/05/2022 14:48

Do you take us for fools?

people DIED alone. Socially distanced funerals with an handful of people and you and your team partied.

does your contempt for the British people have a bottom?

hedwigismyowl · 29/05/2022 14:49

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 29/05/2022 12:46

Please explain to my 6 year old why you have broken the law and still remain PM.

This!

Whilst people were unable to attend funerals, unable to hug each other whilst grieving, whilst I and many other nhs workers were working long shifts, with often unpaid overtime, we did not have our usual Christmas buffet in the staff room (that we all contribute towards) why was no10 and the PM having parties with alcohol, breaking the law when they should be upholding both the spirit and the letter of the law? 😡

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 29/05/2022 14:54

What's the difference between a party and a work function?

CthulhuInDisguise · 29/05/2022 14:58

How does the PM feel since the publication of the Sue Gray report, knowing that he will escape unscathed whilst Kate Josephs was named in the report and is facing losing her job (that she moved to after leaving the civil service) and public disgrace as a result?

FourFourthsDontCare · 29/05/2022 14:59

Watering down the ministerial code by permitting politicians to break the rules without resigning and blocking your ethics advisor from investigating you is:

(A) A great idea that you wish you’d thought of sooner and also applied to the criminal law (Under investigation by the Met for partying? No worries! Let’s make it retrospectively lawful!)

(B) Completely acceptable. After all, you’re free from the “network of obligation that binds everyone”.

(C) Another erasure on the lawful checks on power that you are confident will not be called out as a further step down the slope to 21st century fascism.

I agree totally with this.

stopringingme · 29/05/2022 15:04

When is the higher rate tax threshold being raised from £50,000 to something sensible like £80,000 so people who earn below this can get child benefit.

I ask as My Husband earns just over £50,000 and I cannot work as we have a Disabled Child (and get the measly carers allowance, saving the state thousands). Each year we have to do a tax return and pay back nearly all the child benefit, the next tax year we will probably have to pay it all back..

This small amount of child benefit does make a difference.

This makes no sense as two parents can both earn up to £50,000 and not have to pay it back this needs to change so it is fair to everyone.

We are again being penalised as we are unable to claim any benefits and costs are just spiralling, we have been left out AGAIN from any help so we are worse off than people who are getting help, sometimes it just does not make sense.

I would have thought it would have made sense to help the people in the middles as there a millions of us .

Others have asked about carers allowance and about SEND so will look at your response with interest.

generalh · 29/05/2022 15:05

Why don't you resign? You are a charlatan and liar. You have no gravitas and are ruining this country. Just go.

camelfinger · 29/05/2022 15:07

Can we just choose the laws we’d like to follow?

ShandaLear · 29/05/2022 15:19

If you were a movie character would you be:

a. Thanos
b. Death Vader
c. Pennywise
d. Forrest Gump’s evil twin

ENoeuf · 29/05/2022 15:24

Serious question.

What does 'taking responsibility' actually mean in terms of action not platitude? So far it seems to be watering down the intro to the Ministerial Code of Conduct in advance of any investigation.

Iseethesilverlining · 29/05/2022 15:25

How will sacking 91000 civil servants help sort the enormous backlogs in e.g. passport and driving licence applications. Why is the civil service being blamed for poor political leadership?

IAmLorraineKelly · 29/05/2022 15:26

Do you know who I am now?

LynneBenfield · 29/05/2022 15:28

What are you going to do to protect female rights, single sex spaces, hospital wards, prisons, toilets, changing rooms, support groups, asking for female practitioners etc.

Same question.
