Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

JC and team had certainly read the thread before they came in, as they had a clear idea of some questions they wanted to answer

Which actually makes it even worse, since he was aware of important questions and chose to waste time on trivia instead

As I said - the classic politician's trick to avoid difficult issues Hmm

Flumpernickel · 30/05/2017 17:32

"Little bit OTT Flumpernickel. Undoubtedly he is busy being leader of the opposition with a snap General Election on the way but it's disappointing he couldn't stay after agreeing to come in. It sounds like a few things went wrong on their side today."

GrinGrin

glitterglitters · 30/05/2017 17:37

I'd say if you're busy then prioritise and don't turn up or agree go to every single thing you're invited to.

Make the ones you go to count rather than half arsed rushing about. It makes people feel like their time (in this example
Mumsnetters) is worth less than other peoples.

It's just manners.

Charmageddon · 30/05/2017 17:57

JC and team had certainly read the thread before they came in, as they had a clear idea of some questions they wanted to answer

So they had already decided to pick the fluffy stuff & not directly answer the questions that they did pick in advance?!

And Jeremy Corbyn & 'team' thought MNers would be mostly interested in fucking jam?!

He's a joke.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/05/2017 18:00

I am delighted he can make jam.

Because being a woman I clearly should be interested in his jam making. Hmm

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/05/2017 18:01

He did go for the fluffy, didn't he?

caffeineanddryshampoo · 30/05/2017 18:07

Good grief some of you want the moon on a stick.

Flipsticks · 30/05/2017 18:10

No, we want someone who should be trying to persuade the country to vote for his party to engage with people other than his fan club.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 30/05/2017 18:10

So they had already decided to pick the fluffy stuff & not directly answer the questions that they did pick in advance?!

So that's even more ridiculous.

Charmageddon · 30/05/2017 18:10

Not the moon on a stick Caffeine, just the person who wants to be the next PM to at least make an attempt to take women at least partially seriously.

artycakemaker · 30/05/2017 18:14

Not the moon on a stick, just someone who wants tobe the next party in power and the next PM to engage with serious questions of great concern to the electorate rather than patting them on the head and going for the easy option.

haidik · 30/05/2017 18:14

He couldn't answer all those questions as he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about and his manifesto is just full of nonsense!!!

haidik · 30/05/2017 18:17

How someone could believe in his manifesto where is he going to get those billions from????even taxing 5% those middle earners it won't make up I bet Diane Abbot made the manifesto for him!!!

artycakemaker · 30/05/2017 18:19

I come froma family that are rusted-on Labour. I am a natural leftie. I am a former member of the Labour party and campaigned for them.

But this lot heading up the labour party right now .... every time they get trotted out (and I am looking at you Diane Abbot and you Jeremy Corbyn) they seem so.... vain and lacking in depth.

They shame themselves.

artycakemaker · 30/05/2017 18:22

But maybe I am being unfair.... after all he had a subsequent engagement train to catch so clearly could not be expected to respond to a couple of questions sent to his people in advance.

Giddyaunt18 · 30/05/2017 18:23

I think he comes across as genuine and passionate. I watched the tv debate and the Paxman interviews and he certainly came across better than May. I have voted both Tory and Labour in the past and at the moment I am swaying his way .A big part of that is that I have a 17 yr old DD who is hoping to go to uni and I don't want her crippled by debt.

RTKangaMummy · 30/05/2017 18:32

He is due to be on ONE SHOW BBC1 @ 7pm tonight so obviously has got a busy day today

Wonder if they will ask him about his shoes or who puts bins out like they did with TM

When is TM coming on MN? Bet she doesn't GrinGrinGrin

haidik · 30/05/2017 18:33

Jeremy I live in South East of England I earn 85000 a year and can't afford a new car could you buy one for me please???i can see you have a massive budget!!!

angieC1965 · 30/05/2017 18:33

2 year olds won't be forced into the free childcare. it will be available if the parents need it. however, it will benefit the child since it has been proven that children that socialise with other children do better than if they don't. it would be down to the parent

RTKangaMummy · 30/05/2017 18:34

I really like him btw and am deffo voting for him cos the alternative is awful regardless of what the press want me to think

angieC1965 · 30/05/2017 18:34

haidik the manifesto has been costed

angieC1965 · 30/05/2017 18:35

at least corbyn took us seriously enough to try and answer our questions, where's May?

angieC1965 · 30/05/2017 18:38

as for the jam and the biscuit comments.why blame him for answering? somebody obviously asked the questions or else they wouldn't have been answered. have a go at your fellow women, if you don't like the question and tell them how fluffy you think their question was. personally, i think they had a right to ask if that is what they wanted to know

FloweringDeranger · 30/05/2017 18:39

^^ this.

Flipsticks · 30/05/2017 18:41

Hmm there are a lot of formulaic posts in this thread.
Posters with no posting history who tell us how wonderful Jeremy is, (warm and genuine Is this JCs strong and stable?)
Then they describe how the the Labour manifesto plans suit their lifestyle perfectly.

Or am I just cynical?
