Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party Jeremy Corbyn on Tuesday 30 May at midday.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and has been Labour leader since 2015, having been re-elected when Owen Smith stood against him in 2016. Labour’s manifesto for the election on June 8 proposes ‘a Brexit deal that puts our economy and living standards first’, tax rises for the top 5% of earners, the renationalisation of the railways, free school meals for all primary pupils, the abolition of university tuition fees, and a £250 billion investment fund for infrastructure and the economy.

Please do join the chat on Tuesday at midday, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil .

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties. More announcements coming soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

That is not an insult to people on welfare by the way - I have been totally dependant on it myself before so I don't say that as a loaded statement and am simply recognising voting labour is pragmatic from that position.

Edsheeranalbumparty · 30/05/2017 13:32

I fear he may have lost labour a lot of votes on account of this.

Really?! Confused

confusedat23 · 30/05/2017 13:32

The DM are going to have a field day with this! Wink

Bluntness100 · 30/05/2017 13:33

He had the opportunity here to talk about security, tackling extremism and to allay concerns about his alleged terrorist sympathies and anti-semitism within his party

Yes, but we're just a bunch of mums. We don't matter. We get to hear about biscuits and jam making first and foremost, not the important stuff.

UnGoogleable · 30/05/2017 13:36

Wait..... WHAT THAT IT?

Well that was worth it wasn't it. Hmm

Disappointed in you JC.

lougle · 30/05/2017 13:36

What an utter waste of time. Sad

Two4One2017 · 30/05/2017 13:37

Here's the Telegraph take on this webchat

bibbitybobbityyhat · 30/05/2017 13:38

Well his campaign team need a rocket up their collective arse, don't they?

horsemadmom · 30/05/2017 13:38

I judge people by the company they keep. Corbyn , by that measure, isn't just stupid- he's dangerous.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/05/2017 13:40

He only answered a few very fluffy
questions. Losing ample opportunity to sell himself and his party.
Committed to an hour but only gave 20 minutes. If he had other arrangements. He could have rescheduled for another day.
No wonder mumsnet are embarrassed. They must be mortified. I agree. Not their fault though.
So I don't know what I've underestimated, TBH

madge47 · 30/05/2017 13:42

You got my vote.xx

LovelyBath77 · 30/05/2017 13:42

DM will think all their birthdays and Christmases have came at once

YogaAndRum · 30/05/2017 13:43

Holy Joe that was uninformative. I really do appreciate the effort but...erm...

Therealslimshady1 · 30/05/2017 13:46

Ohhhh.... undecided voter here

That was disappointing

JanetBrown2015 · 30/05/2017 13:46

I just read the MN summary - webchat at a glance which usefully gives JC's answers.

He says "Today we've announced a new childcare policy which is designed to give every child the opportunity of 30 hours free childcare per week. This will cost £5.3 billion a year by the end of the next parliament to ensure that all children get the opportunity of an exciting preschool environment." At least he had the figure unlike the bit of Women's hour I heard earlier.

I don't think he really dealt with the London question - that people might earn more than elsewhere but have massively extra costs. He replies about hugely expensive new railways but that is not an answer and the 30 free hours of childcare even at 15 hours is not offered by many nurseries as it is paid so low by the state the nurseries are not keen to offer it.

ComputerUserNotTrained · 30/05/2017 13:47

Good Lord, some of the fawning on this thread is embarrassing. Seriously, you might think he's the bees knees but getting all giddy over him? Really? Confused

ComputerUserNotTrained · 30/05/2017 13:48

Although I clearly should have refreshed the page Grin

LovelyBath77 · 30/05/2017 13:48

Don't 2 year olds already get free childcare, they used to when mine were small if on a low income? And there has always been at least 15 hrs for three year olds..

LovelyBath77 · 30/05/2017 13:49

And does it mean 30 hrs free for two year olds if parents are working or not? Confused

Garnethair · 30/05/2017 13:52

Wow, underwhelmed by the effort Mr Corbyn put into that one.

To be fair he could answer any question on how he plans to fund all of his promises by saying 'well It doesn't matter what it costs, the Labour Party will just leave it for subsequent Tory governments to sort out our debts '.

caffeineanddryshampoo · 30/05/2017 13:53

I thought he was fantastic in the Leader's Interviews last night. He had to answer the biscuit question, at least he used it to talk about childhood obesity. He's not patronising us as mums at all, don't know where that's been plucked from.
Seems to be lots of people overacting!

artycakemaker · 30/05/2017 13:53

Who knows Lovely. That like the questions about anti semtitism and support for terrorist groups will go unanswered as he fucked off early.

Thank heavens he was comprehensive on his answer about his sugar stance though.

LovelyBath77 · 30/05/2017 13:55

I wonder if 2 year olds really need 30 hours childcare unless parents working. All a bit strange.

NormaSmuff · 30/05/2017 13:55

chuffed I got an answer Grin
