Hello,

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with the leader of the Labour Party (and candidate in the current leadership election) Jeremy Corbyn MP on Monday 19 September at 2pm.

Jeremy has been MP for Islington North since 1983, and before 2015 was best known as a rebellious backbencher and chair of the Stop the War coalition. His leadership of Labour over the past year has inspired enthusiastic support as well as attracting sustained criticism. Among other things, he’s taken a new crowd-sourced approach to Prime Minister’s Questions, opposed military intervention in Syria and proposed the renationalisation of the railways.

His last webchat on Mumsnet (alongside fellow leadership candidate in 2015, Liz Kendall) featured lively discussions about socialism, electability and the provenance of Jeremy’s vests (Holloway Road market, since you ask).

Please do join the chat on Monday at 2, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. If you know people who you think would like to ask Jeremy a question, do please share the link around on social media too.

(If you’re interested in our webchat with the other Labour leadership candidate Owen Smith, take a look here .)

As always, please do keep in mind our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and above all, keep it civil [taps nose like that geezer Shaw Taylor in Police 5] (Horribly showing my age there).

Heads up - webchat with Jeremy Corbyn Monday 19th Sept @ 2pm.

Hi Jeremy
I find almost every soft play/dentist/doctors/cafe filled with the Daily Mail, Sun and similar newspapers. I feel this is a huge problem in that there is a one sided representation of news and opinion. The Mirror and Guardian may not be ideal but even these are almost never to be found. Is there any way to correct this and reduce bias?

carrieboo25 · 19/09/2016 12:52

I was very impressed by your performance at the last PMQs, you are obviously passionately opposed to selective education.

How do you feel about Diane Abbott's decision to educate her child at Westminster? And Emily Thornberry's choice to send her children out of her catchment area to a selective school?

casa51 · 19/09/2016 12:54

How will the rights of carers be addressed the institutional bullying, the financial hardships, the lack of human rights.
I personal became ill as a carer (I have disabled children/adults and have been caring for approximately 20 years) the last few years I suffered with undiagnosed diabetes, I was collapsing requiring ambulance care and finding life very difficult, although I was in clear need of help I received little to no assistance from authorities, but I was threatened with imprisonment and other intimidation and threats.
How will this type of inappropriate behaviour by authorities be addressed?

JennieLee · 19/09/2016 12:55

Hi Jeremy. I went to the Solihull hustings and wanted to ask about Brexit.

There you said that 'the people have spoken' ie. that after the referendum we must leave the EU.

I do understand that you want a politics which responds to ordinary people and their concerns. But suppose that people have been misled and misinformed prior to a referendum, which should never have been called. How much should what they say count then?

Isn't it Parliament's job to make informed and considered choices which will benefit the public in the long term - but which may not be universally popular....?

I didn't realise there were so many nasty, reactionary "radical feminists" who have made the exclusion of transwomen from women's spaces their hill to die on.

Jeremy Corbyn, will you please acknowledge that transwomen are women and deserve the same rights as women who were assigned female at birth?

Lemonsarenottheonly · 19/09/2016 13:01

How can we recognise and fight the rising tide of violence against women and girls
(House of Commons recent report on sexual harassment and sexual violence in schools)
whilst loosing the language to say so?
If a man becomes a woman just because he says he is, what words will be used to describe the reproductive class formerly known as women?
These females sure as fuck aren't being abused by males because of their gender orientation.

Workinzzz · 19/09/2016 13:02

I am a supporter and truly believe that most people int he country would be if they gave you a chance.

Please can you tell me how you expect to reach out to the "middle" of England who apparently believe that leaving the EU is a good idea to curb immigration and "take back our sovereignty" as I think this is the only way you stand a chance of improving your ratings.

I seem to spend my life surrounded by an older generation who read the daily mail/express and refuse to acknowledge that they could be wrong as "they are a newspaper and are not allowed to lie."

How are you going to combat this? You need to get SOME of the MSM onside, I can't see how you are going to do that without a working party.

It was the daily mail/express and sun/mirror readers that voted the last labour government in. How are you going to let the general population what you stand for without the MSM dictating the message?

What is the plan?

Djemel123 · 19/09/2016 13:05

If by any chance cos of purges and ballots not recieved will result be voided and full investigation done and if you win will there still be a full investigation done about these purges ect ?

angryangryyoungwoman · 19/09/2016 13:06

Hi jeremy,

Thanks for being the labour leader and continuing despite such a hostile environment from pretty much everywhere!

I believe that the most important policy for labour should be the introduction of a guaranteed citizens income. This would solve multiple problems such as housing, benefits, discrimination of various kinds and the fact that we are heading towards a more automated/computerised workplace economy.

Do you agree?

Djemel123 · 19/09/2016 13:06

Sorry I meant if Owen Smith wins

brasty · 19/09/2016 13:17

I read an interview today with you where you were quoted as saying that you think you will win the general election and pointed to the number of people turning out for rallies as proof that you will win. Did you really say that? And do you really believe that supporters turning out for rallies means that you will be our next Prime Minister?

Bunson · 19/09/2016 13:18

Hello Mr Corbyn

Do you accept that it was a poor decision to put Shami Chakrabiti forward for a peerage just a few weeks after her "independent" report cleared the party of antisemitism, particularly in light of the comments made recently by your friend, Mr Livingstone?

Sorengadfly · 19/09/2016 13:22

There has been a media-frenzy with regard to Momentum - How can you raise concerns about the close links between 'Progress' and BVCA who are a significant predator in seeking the repaid privatisation of our NHS?

Heads up - webchat with Jeremy Corbyn Monday 19th Sept @ 2pm.
Dutchoma · 19/09/2016 13:24

What will you do to better comunicate with those MPs that resigned because you di not communicate well?

Sporadicus · 19/09/2016 13:28

User some of us are radical feminists, most of us are just ordinary women concerned by the way our rights are being removed and our objections ignored.

Jeremy all we are asking is that a model for trans rights is implemented that respects the freedom, rights and dignity of women, children and trans people.

70percent · 19/09/2016 13:29

Jeremy

In your most recent Guardian interview you are apparently 'genuinely baffled' by the reports from shadow ministers that you've been unsupportive, inconsistent and frustrating to work with [see Heidi Alexander, Lillian Greenwood, Chi Onwurah, Thangam Debonnaire - oh, all women!]. www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/sep/17/jeremy-corbyn-should-be-tougher-not-my-style
You said:
"I try to summarise conversations at the end of them and move on from there. And I hope Heidi will recognise that it’s a style she might be misreading.”

Can you explain how that gets stuff done and how the shadow cabinet know what clear position to have on particular issues. If you do win the leadership election, have you thought about adapting your so-called leadership style to ensure you communicate more clearly with everyone in your party, and properly listen, not just to those who agree with you?

Sweetalliah1 · 19/09/2016 13:29

Dear Jeremy
First of all I can't thank you enough for everything you have had to endure.

One of my concern is the lack of regulations that exsist in the New Build property market and homeowners are being exploited.
The corruption involved with management fees being a steady form of income even after the developers have left is unacceptable and needs to be tackled.
These home builders are pocketing millions by simply employing a contracted to come and cut some grass!
This market is seriously unregulated and the mental stress homeowners are being subjected too is wrong!
You have pledged to build new homes so my question to you today is will you pledge to tackle this cartel of an industry which is on a law onto themselves?

Snagging issues aside there seems to be no independent means of arbitration or any enforcement of standards.
Buying a home is one of the biggest financial commitment most will ever make. Homeowners should not be subjected to this.
I have formed a network with homeowners all over this country who are affected

www.homeownersrights.net/

And have also started a petition

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/165770

We need someone who's cares about a fair society for all to take up this cause.

I genuinely hope you reach out to me. We live in a democracy but it has become a democracy for the big players line their pension fund with while we struggle to make ends meet and feed our families.

WinchesterWoman · 19/09/2016 13:29

Jeremy please don't acknowledge that transwomen are women. I'm not nasty by the way. In case you were wondering.

Ratarse · 19/09/2016 13:30

You have absolutely inspired my 16 year old daughter Niamh, who has just started a politics course at college; her ultimate career aim is PM! What single piece of advise would you give to her? (Our whole household is behind you all the way!)

FiRud0 · 19/09/2016 13:31

What will Jeremy put in place to make a polictical careers more accessible to women with children at both a local and national level?

From my own personal experiencs flexible working legislation does not appear to be accessible for working parents - particularly for women within the Labour party.

GenerallyOffended · 19/09/2016 13:32

I a female do not want my daughters to grow up in a country that says women are available for purchase.

I find your stance disgusting. You don't want to 'criminalize' people. It is men you would be criminalizing under the Nordic model. Only men. The sort who sees women as available for purchase.

I'm so sick of supposedly left wing men shitting all over women's rights.

A man getting caught in his wife's underwear used to be fetishist, but now under the 'trans umbrella' he can the first 'female' on the front line. Before actual women are legally allowed to do so.

We're available for sex, womb rental and general abuse.

Well done.

n0rthy · 19/09/2016 13:32

Where does Jeremy see the party heading over the next 5 years?

yellowflags · 19/09/2016 13:34

I would like the answer to dickdotcom's question upthread:

Can you tell us three pieces of legislation that you personally have had passed in parliament in the 33 years that you have been an MP - these are bits of legislation that you have devised, drawn up and persuaded people to vote for or persuaded the government to adopt.

SinfulPress · 19/09/2016 13:35

I have a highly intelligent daughter who cannot attend mainstream school due to sensory issues related to autism. She is currently receiving home tuition due to a lack of specialist placements, and she has been limited to basic subjects because there is no non-mainstream advanced GCSE education available. The idea of every child being entitled to an education suitable to their needs only seems to apply to those who fit into the mainstream box and lots of children are missing out with some families being pushed into home schooling. What would a Labour government do to make sure these children don't continue to fall through the cracks and get the education they require and deserve?

AskBasil · 19/09/2016 13:35

"Jeremy Corbyn, will you please acknowledge that transwomen are women and deserve the same rights as women who were assigned female at birth?"

What, as well as the extra rights they've enjoyed since birth because of their biological male sex?

User, before you ask Jeremy to chant the mantra "transwomen are women", I think it's only fair to let him answer my question, which is "what is a woman?" You might like to think about that yourself and perhaps discuss it on another thread.
