We’re inviting you to put your questions to The Body Coach, Joe Wicks who will be joining us for a webchat on Thursday 9 June, 12 - 1pm.

Joe Wicks’ first book of the Shift, Shape and Sustain series, Lean in 15 went straight to Number 1 where it held the top spot for 10 weeks and introduced thousands of readers to his method of shifting body fat by eating more and exercising less. In the second book in the series, Lean in 15: The Shape Plan Joe introduces new meals which are designed to speed up metabolism, making fat burning even faster. The book incorporates Joe's home work out exercise programme which is aimed at "building lean muscle and shaping a fit, lean and strong body".

Got a question for Joe? Join the webchat on Thursday at midday when he’ll be at Mumsnet HQ and ready to answer as many Qs as possible over an hour. See you there. As ever if you can’t join us at that time, post your questions to Joe in advance on this thread.

Sadly I will be at work on Thursday lunchtime but I would like to ask joe..
Is your diet and exercise programme suitable for a rather unfit peri menopausal woman who just wants to lose a stone? (I.e: me 😀)
I'm not bothered about becoming goddess like but I would like to lose the annoying stone that has crept on since my peri menopause began.
Is it possible!?
Thanks

ChipInTheSugar · 07/06/2016 14:08

Exactly the same message as Badders! except it's probably more than a stone

I was size 8-10 til I was 42, washboard stomach etc, then have crept up a dress size every two years and now look about 6m pregnant. Cut out the rubbish food, seems to make no difference. Joints hurt, and no childcare make regular exercise difficult, although I do chase after DS on his bike for 30-60mins most days.

I'd love to have a PT but I don't think many are educated in the physiological side of perimenopause weight gain and associated issues.

Badders123 · 07/06/2016 14:12

😀

Badders123 · 07/06/2016 15:54

(I'm 43 btw)

ChipInTheSugar · 07/06/2016 19:35

Ah you're a young whippersnapper Badders (nearly called you Baffers - see even my fingers are fat!). 49 here Sad

AliensInUnderpants12 · 07/06/2016 19:59

My husband has recently bought the Lean in 15 book and we are really enjoying the recipes Smile

Do you have any tips for avoiding emotional eating? I think this is my big problem as I seem to crave chocolate/biscuits etc., when I'm stressed out or bored!

I enjoy going to the gym 3 times a week and we often do HIIT training there!

hermancakedestroyer · 07/06/2016 20:09

(Sorry I can't join your we chat live as I'm working.) ive bought your Lean in 15 book and I find it very interesting. What I would find extremely helpful is a lean in 15 book for families. With cheaper recipes based on 4 people. Is this something you might consider writing? I look forward to reading your lean in 15 the shape plan book. Love your books and plans. Lovely tasty recipes that make you feel good. Thank you Flowers

Hi Joe
Love the book.

  1. Are the before and after pics all 100% genuine?
  2. You don't differentiate between calorie/portion sizes for men and women, why is that?
  3. Is it true that getting fit is 90% food 10% exercise?

And finally- it's called broccoli Grin

poorpaws · 07/06/2016 22:47

What can I do about my severe chocolate addiction? I've tried cutting down and going cold turkey but nothing works for long.

HelenaDove · 08/06/2016 17:37

Joe the emphasis on speedy weight loss is not healthy and puts too much pressure on people.

HelenaDove · 08/06/2016 17:41

My experience copied and pasted from elsewhere.

When i lost 10 stone (before the 4 stone regain and subsequent loss) i developed gall bladder disease (now before anyone starts 2 doctors and my surgeon told me it was due to losing weight too fast. In fact they asked me Slimming World or Weight Watchers? The surgeon was very kind to me and when i made a private appointment to see him after being told i would have to live with frequent gallstone pain for another YEAR everytime i ate SOLID food not fatty food because id already lost the weight remember ....but SOLID food....the surgeon did however say to me that he wished he could use me as an example to his other patients who wouldnt believe him that heartburn is affected by weight.
Re. the gallstones he was appalled that i should have to wait a year after making all that effort .....

5 weeks later i was on his operating table under the NHS!

Before that operation i had spent months having intermittent attacks where i was rolling around on the floor or the bed in excrutiating pain every time i ate solid food. I was living on slim a soups and water biscuits and tinned salmon
while trying to hold down a ten hour a night job in a sex chatline office running from room to room answering different phones.

Every time i had a very severe attack i would have the emergency on call GP come out and give me a morphine injection. The neighbours actually said they could hear me screaming. On Xmas Eve 2002 the doc had to come out for the same reason... and on Xmas Day i couldnt stand up My legs kept giving way and i had to be taken to hospital where i was kept under observation until the morphine wore off.

A later attack came at work DH had to come and pick me up help me into the car and take me to a little local hospital where a camp and v. funny doctor who would have made me laugh if i hadnt been in so much pain gave me a box of morphine pills and told me to put one under my tongue when i felt an attack coming on.

Prior to the morphine injections i had been given tramadol which did fuck all to stop the pain and i got so desperate i was taking 2 of them an hour later 2 paracetamol then nurofen anything to stop the pain.

To this day i owe my thanks to the surgeon who did my op and the doc at the local hosp who gave me those pills.

HelenaDove · 08/06/2016 17:52

I didnt start off eating slim a soups water biscuits etc They are what i had to live on after developing gallstones through speedy weight loss on the SW plan.

I lost seven stone in seven months (ten stone altogether)

Three years ago i went back to SW but did things slightly differently (I had to because not all their advice worked any more) I had a 4 stone regain which has taken me nearly 3 years to lose.

When the weight started coming off very slowly this time i actually went to see a doctor to ask why .

The doc told me a slower weight loss is the normal healthy way to lose weight.

Our perception has been skewed by all the emphasis on speedy weight loss in the press and weight loss cookbooks. Speed is not the most important thing and too much emphasis is put on it.

I dont eat diet products because they are packed with sugar. I now maintain my weight successfully.

But it was bloody frustrating psychologically with all the focus on speed going on all around me. And i think this does just as much damage.

BatLetRat · 08/06/2016 19:33

What's your question Helena? You're aware that Joe doesn't tout his plan as a weight loss one yes?

HelenaDove · 08/06/2016 19:39

In the OP it is emphasized as speeding up the metabolism and fat burning.

I didnt realise that no longer meant weight loss. Confused There is nothing wrong with weight loss plans as long as they are healthy.

My question is..........Why the emphasis on speed?

helenatroy · 08/06/2016 19:56

Dear Joe

I am s big devotee of your recipes and try to take regular exercise. I am over 40 and am currently 17 weeks pregnant. One of the risks for pregnant women over forty is the risk of developing gestational diabetes My question is, can you please give me some suggestions of meal plans and quick snacks to guard against putting in too much weight and most importantly heading the pesky G.D off at the pass?

P.s you are very beautiful and my ahem friend wants to know if you are single?

Thank you
Helena

swooosh · 08/06/2016 20:30

I'd like to ask me to unblock me on Instagram and Twitter. I only asked why a clients 'before' picture had a Christmas tree in the background when it was meant to be from June. Hmm

HelenaDove · 08/06/2016 20:36

Eh?

TheFear · 08/06/2016 21:01

Joe, why do you keep shouting in your recipe videos, it's VERY ANNOYING? Is it so we don't watch your free video recipes and buy the book?!

And why do you hang out the window when the food is done?

yumyumpoppycat · 08/06/2016 21:42

Do you wash your hair everytime you workout and what conditioner do you use?

LtheWife · 08/06/2016 22:41

Hi Joe,

really enjoying the recipes in your first book (chicken pie tonight was so good!) and seeing great results. I'm definitely struggling with the quantity of food though. I find it really difficult to eat 3 meals a day at the portion sizes suggested in the recipes let alone add in 2 snacks. I'm hoping that once my fitness improves I can workout harder and will want to eat more. But in the meantime, am I better off reducing the portion sizes or eating fewer meals?

RJnomore1 · 08/06/2016 22:53

Hi joe

I'm a big fan of the recipes in your book.

Can you tell us the difference between buying into your plan and buying the book? What additional support and tailoring is there?

For those of us less commuted or less able to be committed how would you best suggest we balance families etc with your way of eating and training?

thereinmadnesslies · 08/06/2016 23:04

Hi Joe,
The thing currently putting me off starting your plan is timing - my understanding is that carb meals follow a workout. But kids, life and work mean that the only time I can workout is after 9pm. How flexible is the plan for busy people?
Also, what is the gluten-free vegetarian alternative to a build up bagel?
Thanks :)

glassgarden · 08/06/2016 23:11

sounds interesting!

MyFullHouse · 08/06/2016 23:22

Can you provide fitness suitable for people who need low impact exercise due to birth-related prolapses?
