Are your DC mad about Greg Heffley? Now is their chance to have all their Diary of a Wimpy Kid questions answered.

November marks the release of the tenth novel in the DOAWK series and we're very excited to announce that world-renowned author Jeff Kinney will be joining us for a live webchat on Thursday 19th November from 6.15-7pm.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School follows Greg Heffley as he goes on a weeklong field trip to a farm and deals with a generation gap between the kids and their chaperones. With tension building inside and outside the Heffley home, will Greg find a way to survive? Or is going 'old school' just too hard for a kid like Greg?

Jeff Kinney's work has been widely praised for its ability to turn even the most reluctant readers on to books. The Wimpy Kid books are 50% comic-strip, 50% novel and 100% hilarious. As a result of the impact and success of these books Jeff Kinney has been named one of Time magazine's most influential people in the world.

Join us with your DC on Thursday 19 Nov at 6:15, or if you can't make it, leave a question below.

Hi my 8yo son wants to know will you write 10 more wimpy kid books please !

Stillnoidea · 14/11/2015 17:49

All of my kids are wimpy kid fans. We'd like to ask:

Greg has had a lot of embarrassing moments: what's your most cringeworthy memory?

PirateSmile · 16/11/2015 12:14

I want to thank you for all the brilliant books my two ds have both enjoyed. My ds have both been keen on reading from an early age and I think that's down to finding things they enjoy reading, in particular the Wimpy Kid books.

I haven't read the books myself but I have seen the film and I think that the Rowley and his mum dancing scene is one of the funniest things I've ever watched in a kids' film. Was that in the book or just for the film?

del2929 · 16/11/2015 12:35

hi
we would like to know, 'where do you get your fab ideas from?'

Shakey15000 · 16/11/2015 12:52

Hi Jeff Smile

My son loves your books. I have a question-

I've an idea for a series of children's books, have written the first two. What's the best nugget of advice you could give me before I throw myself to the wolves and submit it to an agent?

Thanks

Shakey15000 · 16/11/2015 16:21

Oh and my son asks- In The Long Haul, why did Greg want to go to Soak Central? (?!)

audrey01 · 16/11/2015 17:52

Hi Jeff,
My DD is a big fan of your books. She would like to know whether you have any plans for a book where a girl is the main character. Thanks!

angie95 · 16/11/2015 18:25

Hi Jeff,
I have read all your books, as my daughter loves them and so do I, they are so funny. Are your characters situations based on real events,?

readalot · 16/11/2015 19:09

School librarian here in tbe UK with massive Wimpy Kid fans - just wanted to share that.

JamJar1 · 16/11/2015 19:37

Hi, my grandson loves all the Wimpy Kid books and read the latest one all in one go.
His question is if you could be one of the characters in your books who would you be?
Grandson would be Manny.

DS (10 this month) says how old is Greg going to get before you have to give up the books... does he have Diary of a Wimpy Young Man to look forward to when he's older?

mouldycheesefan · 17/11/2015 20:19

Hi Jeff, my 8 year old daughter is a massive fan of yours
my question is, I struggle to get her to read other books except for wimpy kid, she rereads them all the time (as you can imagine we are looking forward to the new one!) - what other children's authors do you admire that you would recommend for her to try or do you have any favourite children's stories?

Her question is 'where do you get your ideas from as they are funny'from Isla age 8

thank you she will be very happy if you can say Hi to her!

this is the best webchat MN have ever done!

HBSY7 · 18/11/2015 12:04

A UK School Librarian here with 3 q.s from our very enthusastic Y7s:

  1. Did you get rejected the first time you wrote a book Sad?
  1. What made you want to have a part in the films of Diary of a Wimpy Kid?
  1. How old were you when you started your love of writing?
ARichVernacular · 18/11/2015 13:43

Marking place so I can ask my 7yo for any questions later. He will be thrilled!

(I have name changed and my 9 year old daughter Olivia is writing this)

I especially really really like your books and i also like your movies. My question is are you going to carry on with the books? and also what is your favorite character out of all? My favorite is Greg and Rowley. And also which book is your favorite? I really really like your books so please never stop writing diary of a wimpy kid

from
Olivia

ARichVernacular · 18/11/2015 19:06

Okay, my son's question is "in which episode did the kids make Rowley eat the cheese?" Confused

I hope this makes more sense to you!

longesteverlurker · 18/11/2015 20:43

I have finally registered after 10 years of lurking because my 10 yr old dd wants to ask you a question;

are your main characters (e.g.Greg) based on you or people you know/met/ seen

She is a huge fan of your books and rereads them constantly.

My question is - Do you write your books all in one flowing process or do you have lots of different ideas that you shuffle around to get to a final result?

MeepyMupp · 18/11/2015 21:17

Hi Jeff, my 10 year old daughter's favourite subject at school is creative writing and she's a massive fan of your books, her question for you is :

What gave you the inspiration for Diary of a Wimpy Kid and have you loved creative writing since you were a kid Smile

Madamedupin · 18/11/2015 21:43

Hi
My 8 yr old DS LOVES the books and the films - his question is, when Greg grows up, what kind of job do you think he might do? He's terribly excited about this and agonised over what to ask!
Thanks!

mrsronswanson · 19/11/2015 06:20

Hi, I really enjoy the books myself as there is a lot of humour to appreciate in them as a grown up. I find the mom character very appealing, with all the parenting techniques she tries. Is she based on anyone in real life?

HairsprayQueen · 19/11/2015 06:52

My DS is 9 today and has just unwrapped the new book, he's very excited to read it!

He'd like to ask what inspires you to write your books (but he did say he bets you get asked that a lot!)

Hi Jeff! My 8yo son loves reading your books and he journals and doodles cartoons all the time. We are REALLY looking forward to the live webchat later on. He'd like to know more about you, and asks...
"If you were a superhero, which super power would you choose to have and why?"
Thank you for helping him transition into reading novels. I think that the cartoons helped so much!
