JustineMumsnet · 10/11/2014 15:34

We're very pleased to say that Russell Brand is joining us on Wednesday 12 November between 1 and 2pm.

For those who don't know, Russell Brand is a comedian, actor and author.

His latest book, Revolution, sets out his views for political change - because, he says, "democracy has been taken away from us".

You might have caught his recent interview on Newsnight, which was widely discussed on the boards.

This is his third book, following My Booky Wook and Booky Wook 2: This Time It's Personal and has just published the first in a new series of children's books Russell Brand's Trickster Tales: The Pied Piper of Hamelin, written by Russell and illustrated by Chris Riddell.

Please do join us on Wednesday - or if you can't, feel free to post questions in advance, here.

(Reminder that we only allow one question and one follow-up per user, so make sure to use yours wisely Smile)

He's a bit like Bell Hooks' wayward excitable teenage son

duplodon · 12/11/2014 17:41

I saw a lot of agression and vitriol, not sure why that's a car crash in PR for RB. I haven't really followed him but a lot of his responses made sense to me. Mme Lindor, I have no income, can't drive and live in an area with no public transport, have three under fives... and an hour of meditation a day (often undertaken split between after midnight/before six) saved my life when I was suffering from and recovering from depression. It's not easy but for me and many with mh issues or addiction, it is essential.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/11/2014 17:43

He muddled Mary M up with the woman taken in adultery, I think.

I wish I had the confidence to bullshit and not care if I was getting anything right Envy

Tigerg3m · 12/11/2014 17:46

Mary Magdalene wasn't a prostitute and nobody stoned her. Men, priests in the Catholic Church, wrongly labelled MM as a prostitute. People in the bible did stone sinners.

RB just took poor Mary out of context to benefit himself.

I think your wrong, and you've taken RB out of context, he wasn't saying anything about prostitutes or Mary Magdalene being sinners. He was reponding to the post and saying don't judge him on his past misdeeds as no one is perfect.

KatherinaMinola · 12/11/2014 17:46

Loving "ad homonyms". Or should that be ad homophones? Wink

LineRunner · 12/11/2014 17:46

Yes, the 'cast the first stone' incident wasn't anything to do with Mary Magdalene, who wasn't a prostitute anyway.

KatherinaMinola · 12/11/2014 17:47

But Mary Magdalene is commonly (if incorrectly) thought of as a prostitute, to be fair.

JoanHickson · 12/11/2014 17:52

Via bible gateway. John 8:7

LineRunner · 12/11/2014 17:55

But by whom, KatherineMinola? And why? I bet LRD knows all this stuff.

JoanHickson · 12/11/2014 17:55

John mentions Mary later on. 19:25 20:1 20:18

Vote/Not Vote isn't important in comparison to the deeper problems that lie within the Government. We all know that the system is broken beyond repair in the way it is continuing to be ran - corporations in pockets of politicians, inequality in distribution of wealth... The list can go on and on. It isn't until we completely redesign the structure of our governments from the very foundation, in which only then can true Democracy blossom and give the power back to the people. Now for my question - What do you believe is the main cause for all of the governmental corruption? Is it for strictly financial gain, or do you believe it to me more of a "male ego" power struggle that dominates our government? Any input would be great! Keep the Revolution going!

Sorry - we're a bit tardy getting back on the ticket - it's been a busy day. The free tickets for Russell B at The Royal Albert Hall on Friday have now all been allocated and if you've been successful we'll email you within the next half hour. For those who don't hear but still want to go along, you can still buy tickets here.

Why is he writing, in fact rewriting 100 year old fairy tales. At least Fergie came up with a new character (Budgie was it?)

I hope the profits are going to charity

meyona1 · 12/11/2014 18:37

Hello Russell,
I adore you. I never thought there was another human being with the same thought process as me, but apparently you exist. I appreciate all that you do and commend you for your tenacity and your will to deliver the truth to society. I have no questions, but I only wanted to express my complete adoration for you. I wish there were others like you, but I guess as a society we can only appreciate what God has given us.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/11/2014 18:42

Wow.

Nancy66 · 12/11/2014 18:49

cuckoo

teawamutu · 12/11/2014 18:51

Get help, meyona1. Or out more.

BOFster · 12/11/2014 18:54

Have you got one of THOSE walls in your basement, Meyona?

KatherinaMinola · 12/11/2014 18:56

LineRunner, I don't know how the idea first came about, but in Western art history (going back to medieval times I guess) she has been depicted in ways that suggest she was a prostitute or 'loose woman' - including a few nude portrayals IIRC! (And I think with short hair too).

As to the real why - I imagine to fulfil the wish for / 'need' for a Madonna/Whore iconography. (I expect RB would understand that).

FoxSticks · 12/11/2014 19:10

Ah bless, his fans seem a bit confused about the fact he's been and gone.

I thought he did a marvellous job of appearing all political, after all he managed to avoid actually answering questions by spouting out a load of guff. Much like a real life politician.

His Albert Hall gig appears to be a massive success too if he can give away 100 tickets and still have more to sell Grin

FoxSticks I think you are right and the Albert Hall will be a bit tumbleweeds on Friday. I've been getting offers in my email from those discount sites (livingsocial or amazonlocal or suchlike) offering me massive discounts on tickets for his gig. But unfortunately I have a prior appointment that evening with a book and a sense of self-respect.
