Hello all,
Piers Morgan, former Editor of the Daily Mirror and News of the World, and now Executive Editor of First News, a weekly newspaper aimed at 9-12 year olds, is coming to Mumsnet for an online chat on Tuesday 10th October at 12.30pm. So make sure you make a note in your diary to log on and post a question. If you can't make the actual event do post your question in advance here. Whilst he can't promise to answer every one he'll do what he can (and we reckon he should be able to type quite fast being a journo and all that).
Best,
MNHQ

Why don't you email SN concerns to him at the paper? Surely there will be a contact email address on the website or something. It's something that has to be addressed if attitudes towards SN are to change. If enough mn-ers email then maybe the paper will do a specific and appropriate article/spread?

WideWebWitch · 10/10/2006 14:48

ha ha mm. Batters, I agree re JO, I love him but the reality of eating together...

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 10/10/2006 14:49

Also JO is wrong about that. We always used to eat together, and my xp and I still split up. So much for yer marriage guidance, Jamie Oliver!

Greensleeves · 10/10/2006 14:49

Me too, I like him personally and I love what he's doing... but he is a bit black-and-white on some things.

nicole is only 6, and is a tad young i think. though lauren at 4 is more vocal. 'i want dadd y to have a new heart cos he might die' was what she said to one person. she is obsessed with death a bit atm.

Have you lot never had a group chat on MSN? It can be virtually impossible to keep tabs on what's been posted AND work out replies to those questions you did manage to see. Think PM did an ok job - of course he didn't answer every question... there's dozens of us on this thread and one of him. So he didn't respond to various repeatedly questions - for instance the one about the effect that healthy eating campaigns have had on SN schools. I imagine that's created real problems for many of you mums here, but it was never going to be PM's specialist subject, was it? What was he supposed to say: "No - I don't know about this"?
I imagine a fair amount of time and effort goes into creating these live chats - think we should at least extend the same courtesy to guests as we (try to) do to each other. It's hardly an advert for future guests, is it? JK Rowling - come and chat to us, we're such a nice bunch.

bossykate · 10/10/2006 15:02

agree willow2. i can't imagine many guests being persuaded they should come and chat to us after this.

Hi Bossykate,
We think the chat was quite jolly (had me giggling in places) and Piers didn't seem unhappy afterwards. Obviously it gets a bit squirmy when the insults start flying - it's a bit like asking people to a party and hoping your family behave themselves and show you in a good light - but then again the sheer uncontrollableness and potential for anarchy on Mumsnet makes me smile too. So on the whole we're happy if you're happy really? What do you think - did you enjoy?
(Nice of you to ask by the way )

Yeah, agree as well. I don't think it was us at our best even though it was fun. I think he did okay.

MellowMonsta · 10/10/2006 15:08

I had great fun. Never has an hour passed so quickly during the day. I think Piers enjoyed it too.

RTKangaMummy · 10/10/2006 15:09

I am being nosey but do you know if he had read many of our threads before today?

And was he at home chatting to us?

Thanks Justine and MN Towers

bossykate · 10/10/2006 15:09

there were a few brilliant belly laughs but on the whole i thought it was a bit too rowdy and rude - to the detriment of getting answers to interesting questions. i'm sure piers can take it as well as dish it out , but i didn't think it was mumsnet at its best - sorry!

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 10/10/2006 15:10

I thought he gave as good as he got

Didn't Dave Cameron have some notice of questions? Would that be a better format? OTOH, if they don't answer properly (like DC didn't) you want the option of follow up questions, don't you?

Have just pmsl at the thought of JK Rowling being rounded on by mumsnetters. "So why did you have to kill Sirius?" "Do you accept that the growth of devil worship is entirely due to Harry Potter?" etc.

CheesyFeetcomingtoGETyou · 10/10/2006 15:11

I think PM would have been disappointed if we had turned out to be nice and fluffy. Toward the end he was posting deliberately provocative stuff. He was trying to get a reaction imho.

It's a shame that he didn't answer the SN question though. It's not like some of the other questions, that just got lost in the length of the thread. People kept referring to it and asking him to answer it.

Do you think he will come back?

zippitippitoes · 10/10/2006 15:11

late night chat in the middle of the day is a bit surreal, but i was interested in his comment on robert maxwell and others

jangly · 10/10/2006 15:23

Perhaps it would be better if the announcement of someone coming on for a live chat, and the actual chat thread were separate. Just so the initial light-hearted banter wasn't included. And he wouldn't have to wade through to much before he started answering. I think in this instance the tone was set before the chat started. That's ok though, it was Piers Morgan!

jangly · 10/10/2006 15:24

'too' much! sorry

saltire · 10/10/2006 15:25

I emailed MN towers about having JK Rowling on, and i was told it was something they would think about. I would rather have her on than Cherie Blair.
