Mattress

I've been looking at mattress's for my four week old when he goes into his cot. I haven't a clue what is the right one. Any ideas?

Firstly, congratulations!

I'd say go for the most expensive you can afford (although, if you go for an IKEA cot/mattress combination then it's pretty inexpensive but the quality is good).

Other things to look out for are:
Does it have a washable cover?
Do standard cot sheets fit or do you need to consider specialised ones (e.g. IKEA matresses only fit IKEA sheets)
Has it passed the highest safety standards?

Thank you.. Do you know what you need to prevent flat spot? I've got a cot from mothercare just no mattress.

Do you mean on their head? There's not much you can do - it does tend to disappear though shortly after they are able to turn themselves onto their fronts.

Or, if you mean the mattress - every time I change the sheets I turn the mattress 180° and also turn it over so it wears evenly.

I certainly spent a very long little while panicking when small child here had an 'angled' head at the back, but it's fine now.

Hopefully see you around the boards and hope he's letting you get some sleep for an hour or so every now and again.
