Si and Dave are joining us for a lunchtime webchat on Monday 17 September at 1pm.

A bit of background info: The Hairy Bikers met on the set of a Catherine Cookson drama Shock. Si was Assistant Director and Dave a makeup artist, specialising in prosthetics Shock Shock. On discovering their mutual love of motorbikes and food, The Hairy Bikers were born. Since then food has been their mission, producing several TV series and six books.

In August they embarked on a mission to change their lifestyle and lose two-and-a-half stone, while staying true to their love of great food. The Hairy Dieters gave themselves just three months to complete the mission and simultaneously produce a book, The Hairy Dieters: How to Love Food and Lose Weight which, they say is 'real food for real people, not skinny minnies'.

Kicking off at the end of September 2012, The Hairy Bikers are embarking on a whirlwind tour of the UK. If you send in a question to The Hairy Bikers or join in the webchat, you will be entered into a draw to win a pair of tickets to not only see the Hairy Bikers live at the nearest venue to you, but to join them on stage and be cooked for by them. For more details and tickets, please go to www.hairybikers.com/tour

Chat with the Hairy Bikers at 1pm on Monday, or post a question in advance.

@spababe

Today is Meat Free Monday' so I'd love to know what your favourite vegetarian dish is?

Si says: my favourite vegetarian dish is spaghetti with garlic, pepperonccino (chilli) and new olive oil - a really simple dish but with the finest of ingredients, a magnificent titillation on your palette.

spababe · 17/09/2012 13:26

thank you

Mooniebeamie · 17/09/2012 13:26

Hi Hairies - We think you are awesome Thank you for producing such down to earth honest shows. Here is my question - Are you going to be anywhere near the south coast about May time? My brother and his lovely girl Juliet are getting married and they would love to invite you - you wouldn't have do anything just be there. I know you probably get a million people contacting you like this but I just thought it was worth a try as they are your biggest fans. Thanks for your time - vive le beard!

Hi guys, have you ever thought about taking a crack at some allergy friendly baking ? I love the shows, but you do so much I can't eat, and it would be ace to even see you do gf pastry and bread. Which is often vile.

Hotcoffeeisamemory · 17/09/2012 13:27

For both of you, what foods don't you like? (am in a roll now, may become journalist)

snigger · 17/09/2012 13:27

Hello Hairy Bikers, I'll try not to fawn over you too much (is there too much?Grin)

Challenge - I have all the usual root veg, a vast assortment of herbs and spices, a hunk of cheddar, some plain yoghurt, a chicken, some bacon, and some hake in the fridge.

WWYD?

@FoofFighter

Well done on losing weight and shaping up, are you finding it hard to maintain it what with your job being on food?

That's what got us into trouble in the first place. But we have managed to break bad habits. No more nocturnal room service club sandwiches, especially if we're not really hungry. We still enjoy the occasional blowout but we make up for it later. Weigh in once a week - that's the key. We had a quiet day yesterday but a sushi feast on Saturday night. Dave x

Hi Si and Dave!! Firstly congratulations to you both on your impressive weightloss. Does this now mean that you've both re-ordered those knitted shorts in a smaller size?Wink

No, that seems to have got larger for some reason and I have a fully uninterrupted view of me nethers and the good thing about knitted pants is that they shrink in the wash.

tripe - tastes of wee! My father used to eat it raw soaked in malt vinegar. I can still see it now squeaking against his bakalite dentures. Horrible! Kingy loves it.

What dish would you recommend for this household - husband vegetarian, and I can't eat eggs or milk!
What meal would keep us both happy? (Kids happy with anything, really Smile

MsThinksTooMuch · 17/09/2012 13:30

Hi Si and Dave,

My daughter is off to university this week. It will be her first time living away from home and I want her to eat properly.

As you've cooked all over the world, with sometimes very limited space and equiptment, what would be your top kitchen gadget to send her with?

TheHairyBikers · 17/09/2012 13:31

@QueenFuri

oh I love the hairy bikers Si's my favorite A question um in what country does your favorite meal from and what's your no fail recipe for someone like me who can't cook?

You can't go wrong with pasta with olive oil, garlic and chilli or with a jar of pesto.
My favourite meal is a curry or sushi. Anything Asian, really. Dave. x

@FleeBee

Hello Hairy Bikers I missed your dieting series which sounds like it was brilliant. I love rich creamy food and cheese, not great I know. Can you make delicious food by avoiding these ingredients? Please say you can!

Si says: Yes, buy the Hairy Dieters Book - the recipes within are based on great taste and great flavour and are great dishes on their own but they happen to be less calorific due to the lack of oil and butter in them.

SESthebrave · 17/09/2012 13:31

I'd like an easy, quick and tasty recipe that is also healthy for my DH who is borderline diabetic, overweight and has high blood pressure.

As an aside, he's v disappointed (being an irish man) that the place on your tour nearest us, is on St Patrick's Day! We'll have to book tickets for another date Grin

One good knife, a chopping board and a big frying pan with high sides and a lid. She can get up to all sorts of mischief with those. Dave x

Blatherskite · 17/09/2012 13:32

Hi, I've managed to lose 3 stones this year and am determined to keep them off. My problem is that a lot of low calorie recipes up the flavour in otherwise bland recipes with chilli - which I'm allergic to! - what would you recommend as an alternative?

and (sneaky second question) is there a lot of chilli in your book? I really want to get it but am worried that I wouldn't be able to use half of the recipes

scaree57 · 17/09/2012 13:33

Will you be releasing a dvd along side the dieters book?

Skoggy · 17/09/2012 13:33

Hello Si and Dave!!!

Oh what I would have given to have been in Grainger Market on your weight in days on your diets shows! I love you guys! (I'm in S.Tyneside).

Anyway, to my question. I'm an avid baker and, having just returned to the UK after living in Sweden for the last 4 years, I've got a passion for Scandinavian baked goods. I loved the Bakeathon show and have your book.

I was wondering: Whats your favourite sweet treat? Mine is a nutty meringue roll called a Budapestrulle (in Swedish) Its gorgeous!

Really, anything from our diet book will do the trick because every recipe cuts down the fats and sugars because that's how we lose weight. We're now both off our blood pressure tablets because of the change in our diets.
And hopefully you can find another night to come and see us on tour somewhere not to far away. But he can't drink Guinness on St Patrick's night if he's overweight, so you might as well come and see us!

My mum can't take wheat, dairy or alcohol and is diabetic.

I can rustle up main meals when they visit but can you suggest what I can make her for desert?

TheHairyBikers · 17/09/2012 13:35

@UnlikelyAmazonian

What are the three kitchen utensils or implements each of you cannot be without? (eg I have a sort of bowl scraper thing I use every time I make a cake).

Secondly, I am desperate to build a wood-fired pizza oven in my garden as they look wonderful. Have yuou ever used one and is it a good idea? I love cooking and making home-made pizza especially - and I think i could cook other things in it too??

Many thanks and I love your television shows. UA

Couldn't live without a griddle on the stove at home and I use it all the time. I have a barbecue in the garden and I couldn't live without that. My knives - I have a great set of knives that are really precious to me. The other thing I couldn't do without is a knife sharpener - there's nothing worse than a blunt set of knives. The best kitchen implement that's ever been invented is the potato peeler.
