Following recent debates on the EastEnders' storyline, and our meeting with BBC executives and two mumsnetters to discuss the baby snatch story, we're delighted Executive Producer of EastEnders, Bryan Kirkwood is joining us to answer your questions this Friday (21st January) between 12 and 1pm. If you're unable to join us at that time, please post your questions to Bryan on this thread.

Mr Kirkwood do you realise that by not answering our questions and treating us like we're stupid enough to not realise not only will you fail to win back viewers but you'll be likely to lose more?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 21/01/2011 12:43

I don't think it's just "not a regular occurance", more an incredible miracle.

I am unimpressed with the answer to Demented's question.

hana21 · 21/01/2011 12:43

y give the kid a club foot just to annoy people more at your stupidity

compo · 21/01/2011 12:43

After the crap life ronnie has had couldn't you have written her a happy ending given that you knew she was leaving the show? Didn't you learn from the death ofdanielle that the viewers wanted a happy ending for her instead of a shocking one?

Anyone else think Mr. kirkwood is just trying to kill time til the webchat ends?

shabbapinkfrog · 21/01/2011 12:45

I have just returned from collecting my grandson. On the bus coming home my sons primary teacher got on the bus. She waved and smiled and sat down with some elderly ladies. One of them asked who I was and she said 'do you remember the little boy in my class who was knocked down and killed by the lorry? Thats his Mummy.'

The little group then started to discuss EE and the storyline. One of them said 'I wonder if that little boys Mummy ever thought about snatching someone elses child?' . The others all said 'Well Im sure that happens often Shock' Then they went into great detail about the current storyline. I just sat at the front with a face like this Shock.....so you see many of the general public truly believe everything the soaps throw in their faces.

The SIDS storyline was more than enough - way more than enough - the baby swop WAS NOT NECESSARY.

....and, as many of the ladies on here have asked 'When does Kat get her baby back?'

travellingwilbury · 21/01/2011 12:45

I am finding it very hard to remember my manners here .

ilythia · 21/01/2011 12:45

Couldn't agree more dee.

CazandBelle · 21/01/2011 12:46

I agree dee worrying if such a senior midwife who is now training the midwives of the future would not consider these non-issue and would just gloss it over as a descrepancy in the notes. Descrepancy in notes would be serious misconduct for a start.

ilythia · 21/01/2011 12:46

I would love to know how they plan to win back viewers after upsetting so many people.

BryanKirkwood · 21/01/2011 12:47

@deemented

So you didn't decide to cut the storyline short then as you've previously stated? Or did you just say that in the hope of shutting up all those who complained?

Although we had no fixed plans in place, as I said earlier, we have into account viewer feedback when planning the conclusion of this story.

Summerbird73 · 21/01/2011 12:47

shabba Shock - so sorry you had to hear that crap.

Mr Kirkwood surely an example like that only adds to our emphasis that there are some members of the general public who believe such misconceptions.

My question - are you going to resign over this?

You really couldn't care less could you ?

I really fail to see why you came today .

ilythia · 21/01/2011 12:48

Shock shabba. But unfortunately a perfect illustration of the problem with this storyline and the power of EE.

deemented · 21/01/2011 12:48

I have to ask - Mr. Kirkwood, why have you come here? I mean, seriously... why?

You've glossed over questions, not given us proper answers to the most pertinent ones...
Were you thinking, 'Oh it's only a bunch of mums, i'll confuse them with big words and then get out of there'

I think you've made a big mistake.

Summerbird73 · 21/01/2011 12:49

also i work in medical regulation and i can assure you that 'discrepancies in the notes' is a Fitness to Practice issue.

sevendwarves · 21/01/2011 12:49

Summerbird that's exactly what I was thinking!

ilythia · 21/01/2011 12:49

Was the plotline billed as a SID and then 'amended' to include baby swapping or was it all in one from the start?
Will the writer who came up with the babyswapping plot be fired?

deemented · 21/01/2011 12:50

So you didn't cut it short at all then? Thought not.

CazandBelle · 21/01/2011 12:50

Well so far this has been a wasted 50 minutes of my life.

WotzNotNot · 21/01/2011 12:50

Maybe the midwife's advice was twisted for a storyline scenario as would be any professional advice. ie the way the police dealt with Billy - see hanna21 's post.

travellingwilbury · 21/01/2011 12:51

But Shabs surely people just realise it is a drama soap ?

I am sure I have been told repeatedly on here that nobody would think it happens in real life .

This is our problem . Some people do watch this and believe it to be the truth . After all you do extensive research don't you ?

ilythia · 21/01/2011 12:51

meh. Not worth the effort.
