Paul McKenna is joining us for a live webchat on Wednesday evening between 7 and 8pm. Paul will be chatting about his latest book, I Can Make you Happy which claims it can make you feel happier than you had ever imagined.

Paul will also be happy to answer questions on his 'I can Make you Thin' programme which he says has helped 71% of people who have tried it successfully lose weight and keep it off. He will be taking over the Hammersmith Apollo on Saturday 19th February to host his first Live Weight Loss Seminar.

Paul is Britain's best selling non-fiction author and is published in 30 languages as well as hosting television shows and seminars in hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming and motivation.

Join us on Wednesday evening to chat to Paul, or send in your questions in advance to this thread and he'll attempt to answer as many questions as possible over the hour.

fatpants - we have a support thread of us girls who are using Pauls system, you should join us :)

whomovedmychocolate · 12/01/2011 19:15

Wow thank you Paul, that's incredibly kind of you :)

PaulMcKenna · 12/01/2011 19:15

@canseethe

I have been using I Can Make You Sleep, but I get a bit distracted by the counting thing. Am I meant to count for a bit, and then drift off and stop? Otherwise I try to be a good mathematician Grin but it taxes my brain and kind of worries me!

Sounds like you are a perfectionist. It's okay to drift off during it, and lose your place. In fact, let your mind drift off as much as it wants during the trance.

Deafworm · 12/01/2011 19:15

good plug howto!

BecauseImWorthIt · 12/01/2011 19:16

I love the CD of ICMYT, but I do tend to fall asleep when listening, as it's so relaxing - indeed, I've used it when I've been suffering from insomnia!

Will it still work? Is it still persuading my unconscious mind? (Please say 'yes'!)

PaulMcKenna · 12/01/2011 19:16

@whysolate

Hiya Paul. I was lucky enough to be chosen to join you in December 2004 for the seminar that was filmed for Richard and Judy.Grin

I just wanted to say a huge thank you. Not only was it a fantastic day but over six years later I am still at my ideal weight and have never over eaten since!

P.s DH wants to know if during hypnosis you suggested that I should have a little crush on you. Driving home after the seminar I turned to him and asked "Is it wrong that I fancy Paul McKenna?!?!?"Wink

I am so pleased to hear about your success - it's one of the reasons I do the weight-loss events, hearing stories like yours. Thank you so much!

PaulMcKenna · 12/01/2011 19:16

@nuttynatty16

I really like the common sense behind the ICMYT book. However you 100% correct when you say that people shovel food in their mouth to get the serotonin high. I don't do this with normal food but do with chocolate bars and find that when I am trying to do the program I don't enjoy chocolate as much if I have to eat it slowly. Every other aspect of the plan appeals to me as I can stick to it for life but I feel so strongly about missing this high/ enjoyment of chocolate it makes me stop following the plan. Does anyone else have this? I think my husband thought I was crazy when I explained this. I thought about trying to slowly stop e.g. when start still allow one treat a day eaten quickly but following the other rules and slowly wean myself off? Would love to know your thoughts........

Why don't you use the craving buster technique on chocolate and see how you get on? It's not that you have to stop eating it, but if the chocolate's in charge and not you, then you need change that.

fatpantsandgladrags · 12/01/2011 19:16

Thanks HTLGG.......I will hunt you down Grin

NotOlive · 12/01/2011 19:17

I wondered if you'd spotted my earlier post and had any comments about your former stage act.

Would also like to put my name down for tickets to the event.

Thanks, understood, I don't think the drinking whilst eating will be a problem, I'm more than happy to split the two and devote all my attention to food whilst eating and the wine whilst drinking it...I understand the theory behind that, as after a few glasses of wine, snacking when not even hungry is easy, but surely the wine alone will stop me from losing weight, even if I am sticking to the rules the rest of the time and not eating when drinking?

Because after dinner, sitting and sipping a few glasses of wine all evening is not going to fill me, but it is still calories. Or are you saying that it doesn't matter how many calories I consume at all? Confused

Also, maybe there are thin alcoholics cause they spend their money on alcohol, not chocolate?

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/01/2011 19:21

I do have to thank you Paul, because at a party I said NO to Pringles Grin - that is an amazing feat in my life! I really didnt want them.

Jules2011 · 12/01/2011 19:21

Hi Paul - I have a fear of trying new foods, I don't eat any fruit or veg and would love to as it leaves me in an embarrassing situation when invited to dinner parties etc not to mention the health implications. I think it stems back from being force fed foods I didn't like as a child. I used hypnotherapy in childbirth so I know that it works for me ( had a 10lb baby with no medical assistance). I was just wondering if you can suggest anything I can try? Thank you!

AnyFuleKno · 12/01/2011 19:21

thanks for the god bless Paul, Dawkins bless you Grin

I'd love some tickets too please

PaulMcKenna · 12/01/2011 19:21

@mosschops30

Dear Paul

I have tried to contact you via your website on a couple of occasions but get messages back saying you dont see private clients Sad
I was wondering if you could help me with my long standing fear of flying, Ive tried lots of things (courses, diazepam, rescue remedy, alcohol and CBT) but nothing seems to have cured me so far.
Even though we fly once a year as a family, I can only manage 2 hours, I would love to take the children further away and would also like to look forward to a holiday than dread it.

Please can you help me Smile

Thanks
mossy

To you and everyone else,

There is a fear of flying audio download on my website. However, there are three people I'mg going to recommend, Kevin Laye, www.kevinlaye.co.uk/ Tina Taylor, www.tina-taylor.com/ and Steve Crabb www.empowering-solutions.co.uk/

I've made an app for the iPhone for fear of flying which will be available in a few months.

jacqueroo · 12/01/2011 19:21

Hello Paul
did you achieve any formal qualifications in hypnosis - if so what were they and do you have any recommendations in this area for someone entering the field of hypnosis.

PaulMcKenna · 12/01/2011 19:22

@MirandaGoshawk

Dear Paul

I also lost weight with ICMYT - fantastic. My only problem is sticking to it. But, tomorrow is another day....

I also wanted to tell you about a small success you gave me. It was a 10-minute cartoon about a spider, shown late at night on channel 4 several years ago. You said "Make fun of your fears" and put little boots on it, etc. I watched this cartoon half asleep, then went to bed. Days later when I saw a huge black hairy sider in my back room I didn't hear the Jaws music, just felt the same as if it'd been a fly and calmly removed it, and have not felt fear since. So thanks!

Question: any chance of a claustropohobia CD? The Fear of Flying one helped with lifts but I can't go down into the Tube.
Many thanks.

So pleased to hear about your success, when you have trouble sticking to it, use the CD. With regard to claustrophobia, there is download on the website, paulmckenna.com

YourCallIsImportant · 12/01/2011 19:22

Hi Paul, do you have any plans for seminars in Scotland?

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 12/01/2011 19:23

I hope so YourCall!

MyOneAndOnly · 12/01/2011 19:23

Hi Paul,

Can NLP be used on children for confidence issues and if so what is the minimum age for it to be useful? Thanks.

jooseyfruit · 12/01/2011 19:23

AnyFuleKno rofl @ Dawkins Bless you. I'm going to use that one irl

PaulMcKenna · 12/01/2011 19:24

@feelingthefear

Hi Paul,

I applied GMTV to be on their programme tackling lack of confidence but wasn't one of the chosen ones. Sad

I have had terrible anxiety and have lost my confidence in many areas of my life even in simple things such as driving my car.

Is there anything I can do?

Many thanks.

I'd recommend Kevin, Tina or Steve (see previous for their websites)

PaulMcKenna · 12/01/2011 19:25

@zen1

Are there some people who are just not, under any circumstances, suseptible to being hypnotised? Just interested!

Everyone can be hypnotised, however not everyone finds that they can be cured through hypnosis for every particular disorder. It depends on you, and it depends on the person that you see.

TmiEdward · 12/01/2011 19:25

Hi Paul,
I was always a "big" child, always the fattie in the class at school, I had friends but was often ridiculed. I spent my teen years feeling unworthy and even bouts of depression.
Diets just didn't work. Eating made me feel better.

Now I am 5 stone overweight, and still have issues with comfort eating.
And I look back at photos of that time and wonder what the hell was wrong with me? I wasn't that fat, I had a great complexion and fabulous tits. Why did I put up with the hell of playground taunts when I was fine?
And what can I do about it now?
Will ICMYT help me lose 5 stone?

blinder · 12/01/2011 19:25

Paul - have you ever thought of doing a sex-help cd for women / men who have issues there. Obviously, psychology is at least half the battle with a successful sex-life.

You could call it 'I Can Make You Come'

It would be bought by the shed load. I'd be happy to give it a trial run for you. And a mere 10% of the profits as it is my idea. Grin
