We're delighted to announce that Jamie Oliver will be joining us on Mumsnet on Friday 15th October for an early brunch between 9 and 10 am. Jamie's groundbreaking new book Jamie's 30 Minute Meals is now on sale and his TV series of the same name begins tonight on Channel 4 at 5.30pm and runs daily on week days for four weeks. Jamie needs no further introduction to Mumsnetters; you've discussed everything from his School Meals Campaign to his baby name choices. Now's your chance to put your questions to the man himself. If you can't join us next Friday, post your questions to Jamie in advance on this thread.

Hi Jamie,

Congrats on the birth of Buddy. I love all your cooking books and programmes. They have really helped me out as I love cooking, but find it quite difficult and your recepies are easy to follow.

My DD is nearly 2 and sometimes won't even put new food into her mouth, she just says 'don't like it' without even trying it, any suggestions?

Oh, also, please tell Jules to write another book, I LOVED reading her first one!!!

Thanks.

JamieOliver · 15/10/2010 09:56

Glad to hear you like Ministry of Food - hope you find 30 Minute Meals just as useful!

Inspiration comes from loads of places - thin air, a dream, reading something in a book or a magazine, a conversation, talking or seeing produce or a a farmer, a mistake, luck.

I have a fantastically talented team of people who test all the recipes to be sure they can work for anyone, and also help do research for TV. I've got a great team, but they are ultimately driven by me and they are my recipes. Every recipe I write is tested 5 times (even 2 times more than good housekeeping). It's really important to me that my food is accessible to everyone.

@Loujalou

[Gush alert] I have to say I am loving my Ministry of Food cookbook. There are so many simple but yummy recipes in there. I was recommended the book and have told lots of people to buy it. I have your new book and need to try that out too.

Not sure if this has been asked but where do you get the inspiration for your recipes - do you have a team that help you or do you sit there and figure them all out.

Housemum · 15/10/2010 09:56

Jamie please don't tell everyone about using chicken thighs - you, Nigella (sorry, is that swearing on here?) and the Sainsbury's mag all had nice recipes with them so there have been none in Sainsbo's all week! ;)

kveta · 15/10/2010 09:57

:o well I hope you manage to save up loads of nectar points instead!
thanks for answering, I shall tell my friend when I see her later :o

Jenski · 15/10/2010 09:57

I asked some questions back on page 4 about cooking with 3-4 year olds at school - please can i have an answer? Pretty please... Wink

maduggar · 15/10/2010 09:57

I used to rely on convenience foods, until my mum bought me the Ministry of Food book - now my kids get a proper home cooked meal 6 days out of 7 - so thank you! I had no idea how to cook before that (took woodwork at school instead of cookery!).

JamieOliver · 15/10/2010 09:57

@friendly

Congratulations on the new addition to your family. Fantastic

Please could you do a vegetarian cookery book!

I'm gonna do a big veggie bible in the next year. I just had the thumbs up to do it yesterday. Although every single one of my books has been 60% veggie, my vegetarian friends almost take it as form of veggie racism that I haven't done a veggie book so after 10 years I've caved in Grin.

Thanks Jamie for answering my question. Am looking forward to Jamie's Italian in St Albans Grin

domeafavour · 15/10/2010 09:58

I can't believe you don't get staff discount!!
Shall we start a campaign?

VinegaRigamorTits · 15/10/2010 09:59

TheBride Grin JamieOliGore is inspired!

JamieOliver · 15/10/2010 09:59

Yuno, hope that dream wasn't a nightmare. Jools is very good with timetables, mealtimes and bedtime so that never really happens in our house. Sorry. I?m afraid I don?t have one magic dish to give you. But if they?re hungry and it?s late, nothing heavy.

@YunoYurbubson

Hello Jamie.

I had a rude dream about you once.

Jamie's America is fantastic. All my American friends love it.

What meal do you throw at your kids when it's already 10 past death hour and everyone needs to be fed and in bed 5 minutes ago?

And... do you ever have to cook with whinging children clinging to your thighs?

TheBrideOfBlatherstein · 15/10/2010 09:59
MmeBodyInTheBasement · 15/10/2010 09:59

Have just ordered the new book and the MOF one that everyone has been raving about.

Fab web chat, either you are a quick typist or you have a team of secretaries with you.

Can you post the chicken nuggets recipe?

Jenzopos · 15/10/2010 10:00

I watched a programme a few weeks ago that revealed what was in cheap sausages and hotdogs....don't think id ever eat a hotdog again!

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 15/10/2010 10:00

Hi Jamie - can anyone have too many cook books? DW thinks I have - I think we can squueze a few more in.

Deliaskis · 15/10/2010 10:00

[Also gush alert] probably too late and not really a question anyway, but your American Food Revolution is one of the few docu style programmes that has me both filling up with tears and cheering and clapping at the TV all in one evening. Any update on how the revolution is carrying on months later?

By the way love your 'stealth veg' approach with some of the kids, I do this with my Brownies on pack holiday - 'who like leeks?' 'Yuck!', 'well you all just ate them in the Shepherd's Pie that you said was the best you'd ever had!'.

sethstarkaddersmummyreturns · 15/10/2010 10:00

oh how brilliant that you're doing a veggie book! Can't wait!

BoffinMum · 15/10/2010 10:00

Only just finished my Book of Boff housekeeping manual, Riven, and have no clue how to get these types of things published as I only ever write academic things usually, and that is a totally different ball game, but it sounds like this might be a goer too. I will keep you in the loop. Email is boffinmum at hotmail dot co dot uk.

Loujalou · 15/10/2010 10:01

Sainsburys had the new book cheap!! Cheaper than Amazon in fact....

ledodgy · 15/10/2010 10:01

YunoYurbubson Noodles and stir fried veg is really quick and healthy with a bit of soy and worcester sauce mixed in. My children love it and it takes 5 mins. :smile:

MmeBodyInTheBasement · 15/10/2010 10:02

Deliaskis
I thought you put leeks in chocolate brownies Shock

JamieOliver · 15/10/2010 10:02

Ok, Merk, I'd better not comment about those other guys but i can assure you that I have quality control. The thing with the homewares is that they're all great quality and value and if I don't like something, I won't do it. Yes, I'm encouraging people to cook but I also love making food look great and making food easier to prepare so i'm happy to work with tefal and all the other partners to put great products out there.

@30andMerkin

Hi Jamie

Am a big fan - massive respect for the campaigning work, own several much used cookbooks, love the TV shows, and have been lucky enough to eat at Fifteen Cornwall and adored that meal. Very impressed with the Jamie' Italian we visited in Brighton too.

But... don't you ever worry you're spreading yourself too thin? Shades of Gordon Ramsay? You're great at getting people into cooking but I'm not sure what endorsed homewares have to do with that... beware the spectre of Antony Worrall Thompson Fresh and Green Stain Remover!

RiverOfSleep · 15/10/2010 10:02

Hi Jamie

I asked my question way back when - please can you ask Jools to write a cookbook of what she feeds the family?

Deliaskis · 15/10/2010 10:03

MmeBody LOL, I think even I'd probably rule that one out!
