To want to ban these phrases (not light-hearted - this would be my first act as dictator)

"I'm reaching out" - no, you are contacting me by email

"it broke me" - no, it made you a bit sad

"Picky bits tea" - just no

I agree with most of the ones on here! I'd also add the phrase "deep dive" which I really hate!
I once said to my OH that we could just have bits and pieces from the fridge for dinner and he said bric a brac?!! Sometimes I just say scraps meaning probably a selection of leftovers!

Chartreux · 01/07/2024 21:13

"We're pregnant" or "we're breastfeeding", especially when said by men. But their partners shouldn't be facilitating it, either.

Reaching out

My bad

Vacay
Out the window/door. Poor little ‘of’
Unsolicited phone calls that start with ‘how are you today’. Like they care. I know it’s part of the script, but it’s just more time wasting.

I need to know what platty joobs means???

FloofPaws · 01/07/2024 21:14

I loathe 'borrow me a ...' 🤯
I used to have a narc colleague who used all the MBA jargon ... critical friend (someone to bounce your bullying ideas off of); deep dive; circle back .... finally 'the sweet spot' makes me 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮

'Skin in the game's grinds my gears.

AInightingale · 01/07/2024 21:15

'Whoop whoop.' Just why?

WhatsForDinner100 · 01/07/2024 21:15

Messing up past tenses, eg saying "I done that" instead of "I have done that/I've done that" or "I did that".

Muddling "brought" and "bought". So many people now seem to say "I brought that in Tesco" instead of bought.

ChampagneLassie · 01/07/2024 21:16

Touching base. Similar to reaching out but more euphemistic

menopausalmare · 01/07/2024 21:17

'smashed it' when doing ordinary things in an ordinary way.

Wow. Just wow.

I agree with this. It is so apparently pregnant with righteous indignation, at the same time as being utterly empty of specific meaning.

Its intention is to close down any further comment, as it is supposed to represent the ultimate, only intelligent, only humane position in an argument, and simultaneously indict whoever said the ‘offensive’ thing. Often it is said as part of a passive aggressive bullying session.

Such a cheap response.

Say what exactly you object to that was said, and why you object to it. Then it can be discussed.

HangingStars · 01/07/2024 21:17

When looking round a house: “This is an amazing space”…….nope! It’s a room.

Also, anything prefixed with “Insta” such as “Insta-worthy”.
