Help? I've acquired a very young kitten?

We've had a female cat visiting in the garden for about 7 months. We actually thought she belonged to someone but we discovered she had no home and was a stray. We were planning on catching her a couple of months ago but she disappeared. Anyway she reappeared and had a litter in my garden. Well I say litter. One kitten. Numerous attempts to catch her have all failed. She was happy to take food from anyone but would never let us touch her

Mum cat was found dead on the side of the road this morning. I feel so guilty as it is.

Anyway I've got the kitten inside. It's pissing it down. He's soaked. At a guess I'd say he's at most 6 weeks. He's been eating the food we've left for mum. He fits in the palm of my hand. I know nothing about cats really. Especially one this small

So I've booked him into the vets tomorrow. Earliest appointment

I have a 2 year old and a husband in bed from an appendicitis emergency.
So I'm on my own really

So questions
What do I do?
What do I feed him?
I've dried him with a towel and he's now all fuzzy but he's screaming murder

My 2 year old won't leave him alone but I can't split them cos she can't be left alone and he's like a tiny little thing. Any suggestions? Could I put him in a box for now? Just so he can sleep without being poked

Actually, our tortie was a calico if they have more white. I miss her with all my heart. She had us all under her thumb and that was exactly the way we liked it.

Anyway @Toddlerteaplease I would call her colour the pale apricot like the autumn sun refelcted in a glass of chardonnay in Provence.

My male DC is accident prone so I'm forever having to give him pills. There's one brand that are tasty and he'll eat like dreamies.

There's another I have to grind up in an egg cup with a spurtle and then mix it into lick lics.

That's also how I give his dose of metacalm

Get cat insurance ASAP and consider a vet pet plan.

My male DC has the platinum version which includes vet visits (as many as needed!) my female DC just had the medicine one (vacs, flea,tick and worm medicine)

As well as get him used to be touched, get him used to a cat carrier and loud noises (hoover, hairdryer). Some cats are happy to be hoovered gently - maybe yours could be one of those?

It took her 10 mins to settle into our house , she planted herself in my arms and stayed there for 12 years - every opportunity she got

She became unwell and went downhill quite quickly, died in my arms .. or my sons version 🤭

@Soubriquet she does. Just been to the 'Supreme' cat show. And she was the equal of any of the exotics there. Although half the size. I can't believe how tiny she is!

Calico cats have white on them. Here's an image of a calico and a tortie

Our previous cat was a tortoishell with a white bib, four white paws and part fawn face . But her main body was brindle . When she was spayed her shaved patch was pink with dark spots like an ocelot .

I thought that Calico was American but I've seen it used in Tortoiseshell that had distinct patches or blocks of colour either with/without white .

Oh that reminds me! Our calico/tortie when she was shaved for surgery also had black pigmentation spots. I said to DH 'she looks like an ocelot!'. He replied she was 'an oce-little'.

He's just chilling and he smells better now. My daughter is trying to make him wear socks on his tail and he ate a rice crispie this morning which I'm sure isn't in the cat dietary requirements but he seemed to enjoy it

He's had a big couple of days so no wonder he is chilling! I recommend you pop him into a blanket, make him a hot chocolate and let him play on roblox.

You may think that. But both of my "black" cats are "smoke" black, i.e. with white undercoats, and Girlcat is actually a charcoal tabby! Look VERY closely at her pic (2nd one) and you may just see the very dark grey stripes on her head

oooh that pic reminds me of a panther when the sun hits their coat. They also have patterns underneath them. i believe that panthers and leopards are genetically identical just with different pigmentation.
