To ask what you dreamed would be fabulous but is actually maybe a bit shit

I think this about lots of things to do with celebrity lives, when I was younger I thought it all would amazing now not so sure.

A particular one I have is that I always longed for a villa on the Italian lakes. We went to a hotel there one year for 5 days ( in the same village as George Clooney ) It pissed down for 3 days. Everything was dark and damp and that combined with the endless queuing for flights and the thought of maintaining a property in another country sort of did for the dream. Not achievable without a lottery win anyway but now I don't even want it.

Anyone else got stuff like this or that they actually got and then thought 'meh'. I seem to have it about more and more things as I get on - I just don't want stuff anymore. Is it just to do with age?

Having boobs. Now, after 3 kids the saggy useless things can fuck off. They couldn't even feed any of my children so what was the point of them.

@CentrifugalBumblePuppy

Cornwall.
Yep! To get to anywhere you have to travel along this jam packed A road that also seemed to save up its repair work for August and so it would take forever to get to anywhere. Coupled with the 'Cornwall for the Cornish' graffiti we felt a bit unwelcome ( some shop staff seemed to have an eye-roll problem too!)

@serin

Yoga. God it's so boring and if you say its boring, then you are told it's because you need to relax more Hmm
Agreed. I really tried to convince myself I liked it, and I'm sure it would do my back a lot of good if I stuck with it, but it's just so mind numbingly boring!
AdriannaP · 10/04/2021 21:41

New York: dirty, loud, dangerous, awful food
Camping: cold, too much stuff, uncomfortable, hate not having a toilet
Cornwall: it’s 80% stormy, windy, cold, rainy and if the sun shines you can’t get too a beach as the roads are blocked. Been several times, never again.
Tv show girls: overhyped rubbish
A lot of afternoon teas: stale cakes and sandwiches

But huge Maldives fan, went several times and had the best holidays.

Hlglu56 · 10/04/2021 21:42

Florida- my mum saved to take us but I hated it. I think at 13 I was too old for Disney and apart from the water parks didn’t really enjoy it. Found the Americans very ‘fake’,overly polite etc but then others could be very rude and strict. The weather was awful too. I just felt uncomfortable there but would definitely try other parts of the US.

Barcelona- stayed in a lovely hotel but struggled to find decent places to eat or drink nearby.

Most holidays or trips with children. I get so excited to take them places but in reality it’s hard work. They are still very young so hopefully this will get easier...

Agree with New Year’s Eve- it’s too busy, the night lasts too long and I’ve never had a good one.

I was just thinking this today. I hate carrying around my heavy, very big breasts.

I have never had children. What is the point of them. Sometimes I think that women are very badly designed.

It makes me really upset to think that they are going to be so saggy, and there is nothing I can do about it. They are already starting to sag.

I’m glad others have said university. I did a humanities degree and wish I’d had the option to do it in 1.5 or even 2 years instead of 3. I had 4 hours of lectures a week! Had to work temp jobs to afford it the rest of the time, when I could have started my career 2 years earlier. Worked out great in the end career wise but I had more traditional uni style fun (making great friends, partying etc) in between 16-18 during sixth form and my gap year. Uni felt like such an anticlimax and in bloody Manchester too: it honestly rains every day.

@Sarahtrue11

I think the places are are told to go to are often a bit shit. We are toldthat good places for holidays are Spain, Italy, Greece, New York, LA etc. We are influenced by the media to go to the same tourist destinations.

It is the places off the standard tourist trail that are amazing.

I remember going to visit Romania , and some one said to me "why would you go there , it will be a dump".

Romania is stunningly beautiful. I loved my visit there. It is gorgeous.

Similiarly when I went on holiday to Albania, someone told me that it was bound to be shit and poor. It was gorgeous. A really beautiful country, Really nice

Agreed we went to Germany and had one of our best family holidays

I hate that men can work out and can tone up any muscle, but women(especially with large breasts) are going to have massive lumps of fat down to our waist, and there is nothing we can do to improve the situation

Bumblebee1980a · 10/04/2021 21:45

Going to the Maldives before we had DS. It was quite boring to be honest.

We're going again but this time with DS so it certainly won't be boring Grin

Am I the only one who wants to know what a twinkie smells and tastes like?

Is it cum?

It's cum isn't it?

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 10/04/2021 21:46

Flying first class. Ended up in seats which meant I couldn't see the then 7 and 4 year old DC if I wanted to lie down. Seats converted into beds, hit turbulence and so had to strap in lying flat. Thinking the dc were scared and couldn't hold their hands. Felt guilty bothering staff for food n drink. I'd rather it come at set times rather than 'just ask'. Hated it!!!

GreenSlide · 10/04/2021 21:48

@TatianaBis

Steak. It was talked up as the most delicious thing. But even the most expensive fillet perfectly cook is like eating someone’s arm.
I always think this!! It's a lump of muscle on a plate. Very offputting.
MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 10/04/2021 21:49

Oh and Michael buble concert. Utter tripe. Yes the man can sing but it was a cringe fest

breadwidow · 10/04/2021 21:49

Poor Paris gets a lot of mentions on this thread. I really like it and am looking for award to going back when we can travel again. I wouldn't says it's the best city in the world or anything but so many things about it are fab - I just love the rooftops and the Art Deco metro signs. I love how it's so different to London where I live. I have only been a few times and not done all the tourist stuff mainly as my DH didn't want to and had a list of bakeries to go to instead (clue in my name) (so still not been to the Louvre or up the Eiffel tower) - I wonder if that had an influence. Anyway, if you want to risk Paris again my tip would be avoid having an agenda in terms of museums and sites & just wander in search of bakers and look at the buildings!

I agree with a few other things on the thread though - cordless Dyson was biggest waste of money ever & Glastonbury was a bit of a stress disappointment.

midlifesomething · 10/04/2021 21:51

For me it was a dishwasher!

DH mocks me for liking Michael Buble. Says he's a modern day Daniel O'Donnell.

midlifesomething · 10/04/2021 21:52

Oh, and Little Moons - a big disappointment

littlebillie · 10/04/2021 21:53

@Hoolihan

My son and I loved the Harry Potter Studios! It's definitely more of an exhibit than a theme park but I knew that when we booked. We had a fab day out (though wouldn't stay in Watford again tbh 😂).
I think the marketing has changed, a few years ago it was the studio set visit, now it's been marketed as an experience day out.

Our DCs loved it but are interested in film. As an adult I could have spent hours there looking at the sets. I think if it's explained as that it's interesting.

Diagon Alley was better than the Universal one in Florida.

A mr frosty was on my list for years and I’ve always felt cheated that I didn’t get one but now I think my mum and dad made the correct call.

For those saying steak, you’re either cooking it wrong or buying shit steak.

Windermere!

Maybe we just hadn't done our research properly?

Expectation - beautiful scenic village on the edge of a lake, long lazy lunches and quaint boat rides.

Reality - jostling with HUGE groups of Chinese tourists desperate to get to the Beatrix potter museum and waving their brollies in the air. Overpriced EVERYTHING. Huge queues for the boats due to so many tourists. No long lazy lunches as everywhere was full. Couldn't even get an ice cream for the kids as we would have been waiting too long for them to put up with.

And yea I know that technically I was one of the said tourists 😂😂 but we are talking groups of 20+!
