NOT what I expected to wake up to this morning...

Some of you might recall we have a rather large pond in our garden. On it we have a pair of ducks. First day of lockdown appeared ten, beautiful ducklings. They grew up, flew away and that was that until next spring.

Except I woke up to this......
There are ten more (seven in this photo) and I can only assume the warm weather has thoroughly confused her.

I'm now going spend the next few months fretting over bloody wildlife.

NOT what I expected to wake up to this morning...

What a lovely thread, I have been following throughout. I feel a bit sad that they are growing so quickly...

AlanThePig · 24/11/2020 15:13

Been in the garden this afternoon. They were having a huddle.

Wow they are lovely!

Soubriquet · 24/11/2020 15:32

Where’s mum?

Buggered off to the pub again?

AlanThePig · 24/11/2020 15:53

Haha no no, still here, as is Duncan. Probably because I've been outside most of the day so they have been watching me carefully in case I should happen near the food tub.

Oh that's a lovely photo @AlanThePig - it's truly warmed the cockles of me ould heart!

forrestgreen · 24/11/2020 16:43

Do they sink their house now as they're so big?

AlanThePig · 24/11/2020 16:58

@forrestgreen

Do they sink their house now as they're so big?
I'm sure they are trying to. They do seem to have the sense to not all try and get on it at once now. They have also broken the rope tie from one end of the temporary platform and are having a good go at the other side. If they manage to get that one off too I'll have to get the bloody boat out to get it back. Swines.

MitziK · 24/11/2020 22:35

Sounds like you have seafaring Mallard teenagers there!

BarbaraStripeshand · 25/11/2020 09:22

This is amazing. I love ducks and would love to have this (even if they are worrisome little buggers).

Thanks for sharing.

I've just come across this thread & it's lovely.

AlanThePig · 25/11/2020 11:20

@HunkyDory69

That last picture is lovely, and the video made my Mum (dementia) smile so much - thank you!
Oh thats made me smile, how lovely.

DH was up bright and early this morning, me not so much. When I got up I noticed Duncan stalking the front door having a good old quack, the little ones were off elsewhere in the pond.
Spoke to DH who confirmed he wasn't here first thing so had missed breakfast. I'd gathered from the noise he was making he was perhaps a bit peckish 😂

This is the nicest thread! I just found it and read all in one go. I now have lake envy

AlanThePig · 25/11/2020 12:35

Forgot to add, had a phone call on Monday from the second shed people. They are bringing a shiny new shed on Friday!
Duckingham Palace is saved.

No, made him wait till lunch. If he wants to gad around the neighbourhood all night thats his problem.

He has had lunch, I'm not that mean Grin

Will Duckingham Palace come equipped with solar powered indoor heating?

And is the middle of the pond still in your wifi range because I've seen some solar and battery powered wildlife wifi cameras. Some with speakers so you could talk to the ducks in their house on the pond whilst you still inside Grin
