NOT what I expected to wake up to this morning...

Some of you might recall we have a rather large pond in our garden. On it we have a pair of ducks. First day of lockdown appeared ten, beautiful ducklings. They grew up, flew away and that was that until next spring.

Except I woke up to this......
There are ten more (seven in this photo) and I can only assume the warm weather has thoroughly confused her.

I'm now going spend the next few months fretting over bloody wildlife.

@AlpineSnow

Wow your garden is amazing
I spend half my life out there ☺️ When we first bought the house it had been a short term let for about ten years, so lots of people coming and going but nobody really doing much to it. There wasn’t much in the way of plants at all in the front and the back was just bare lawn.

I seem to spend an extraordinary amount of time in garden centres buying plants and trying to introduce colour. I put two beautiful little cherry blossom trees in earlier this year and a few acers around the edge as all love waters edge.

I’m looking at Virginia creeper for the front fence next. Good time to put it in at the moment. I’m sure DH will respond with “more plants!?” Grin

@HunkyDory69

😁 very cute! Glad Dot is a strong female - she'll need to be, if this is what ducks have to do!
We had one earlier in the year that used to terrorise Duncan. I did film it at the time, unsure if I still have it but it was really funny to see. He'd start heading over to join them for food and it would just fly at him running him off. 😁

What a gorgeous surprise! This thread has put a smile on my face :) I'm sure with your help and care they will all go on to grow up into mighty ducks.

AlanThePig · 22/11/2020 13:52

He did that every time. It really was funny. Poor Duncan was properly terrified of the little sod. Fortunately for him this lot, Dot aside, seem a bit more mellow Grin

Love this thread ❤️

Question though, has it not been more than 30 days?

Horsemad · 22/11/2020 15:18

Lovely thread. At one of my local duck ponds there was a late litter (?) of ducklings in September, who have now grown up it seems.

PuckyMup · 22/11/2020 16:48

Have you ever offered them peas? Apparently they are duck crack and REALLY popular

Love this thread

Ellmau · 22/11/2020 16:52

he seems a bit portlier than other ducks

Thanks to your generous free restaurant, lol?

Love this thread

I've offered everything, nothing is as good as expensive duck food it seems. Which reminds me I need to order another 20kg.....

I've heard of a few now, it was unseasonably mild in September/October and a lot of them were very confused. Good to see they survived though.

Indeed. They are currently more expensive than the dog....

No wonder he doesn't care about leaving his children overnight! Look how the last lot treated him!
RandomMess · 22/11/2020 18:57

It's hilarious that Duncan was chased off by such a tiny duckling!!!

kerryleigh · 23/11/2020 12:47

awww! they're all grown-up already Smile
Time just flies Grin

AlanThePig · 24/11/2020 11:00

Safe to say they are huge now. I have to look twice to see Egwina sometimes!
Not started trying to fly yet but can’t be much longer now.
