My child has a badge that sees ghosts?

Lighthearted!

DS 4, has a badge he calls “birdie friend.” I may post a photo later! It’s a badge with a bird on.

Birdie Friend seems to have the gift of the “sight!” “Birdie Friend says Bob and Rose are here mummy, they like to have tea with us. Bob and Rose are DH’s grandparents who died many years ago.

“Birdie Friend says the men who lived upstairs looked like you mummy when their faces burned off.” We used to live in a former military hospital and I had a sheet mash on my face! The ward upstairs had indeed been a burns/plastics ward!

“Mummy, Birdie Friend says the end is coming soon.”

😂😱😨

Does your son play with other children a lot? If not, I'd encourage that. Does he talk about BF/talk to BF when there are other children around?

It's probably nothing to worry about, but (Catholic) churches give away bottles of holy water and salt is cheap. Just sayin' .

QueenOfOversharing · 18/01/2020 13:34

The giggling in the airing cupboard is too cute fucking disturbing 😳

Reginabambina · 18/01/2020 13:35

Well this is creepy. If birdie friend kind in general? Scaring your DS about the little boy seems quite mean, maybe DS could be persuaded to find a nicer friend?

PavlovaTescobar · 18/01/2020 13:36

It's quite clear that Birdie Friend isn't making your son psychic, but that the messages come from your little boy. I wouldn't get rid of the badge but as a previous poster suggested, write down everything he says, while at the same time encouraging him to do fun cheerful things. Guinea pigs are great (as long as you don't end up being the only person who has to clean them out). It will be interesting in the future, if you've made a note of everything, to revisit it when he's grown up and forgotten it. Or may be he won't forget it.
One of my daughters used to talk about her past life with me and one of her aunties, she did this till she was around six or seven. She's completely forgotten about it now, but I haven't.

HerRoyalFattyness · 18/01/2020 13:39

Birdie friend needs to be destroyed move on.

Kanga83 · 18/01/2020 13:43

Holy water, white sage cleansing, a bible and some garlic gloves and a stake just in case and maybe birdie friend needs to be moved on/lost....

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 18/01/2020 13:47

Don't destroy the badge though. You might release something...

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 18/01/2020 13:53

Are you sure he's saying 'Birdie'? Not..... 'Murder'? Shock Grin

PlomBear · 18/01/2020 13:55

He’s been saying the “messy” is coming and then it will be “the end.”

DH and I have been watching Messiah on Netflix but only after DS is in bed.

Houseworkavoider · 18/01/2020 13:57

Gah! Messed that up Hmm

BecauseReasons · 18/01/2020 14:00

DH and I have been watching Messiah on Netflix but only after DS is in bed.

Could he have overheard it when in bed, but not heard properly? Or heard you discussing it?

Lailaha · 18/01/2020 14:02

OP, it's also possible that your DS is a prophet, and it's nothing to do with Birdie Friend.

Has he said when the Messiah is coming? asking for a friend

TheReluctantCountess · 18/01/2020 14:03

I love stories like this! I firmly believe that children can see stuff that we can’t.

OvenGlovesWillTearUsApart · 18/01/2020 14:10

I would be investing in a wooden steak. Tesco should have them. It is veganuary after all.

(Phone wanted to say vegan yarn, so buy some of that too.)

HoppingPavlova · 18/01/2020 14:13

He’s been saying the “messy” is coming and then it will be “the end.”

Brexit?

StillCoughingandLaughing · 18/01/2020 14:15

I think it’s time to get a badge with a cat on it. When your son asks where Birdie Friend is, tell him CatFriend ate him. It’s very sad, but it’s the circle of life.

Then put Birdie Friend down the waste disposal. Don’t bury it, or you’ll come home one day to find it dug up.

ikeakia · 18/01/2020 14:22

Well, that would have me hiding under the table!

The messy? The end? I’m not going to sleep tonight! Grin

ThelmaDinkley · 18/01/2020 14:22

OP put some pics of guinea pigs on when you get them. They such sweet and gentle animals. They might help take your son’s mind of Birdie Friend.

2020newme · 18/01/2020 14:23

My DS used to be like this too.

I would be tempted to find out if any young boys had in fact died in your house OP. Just so you can thoroughly freak yourselves out Grin

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 18/01/2020 14:27

This is how horror films start! I'm freaked out and fascinated at the same time 😳

AhoyMrBeaver · 18/01/2020 14:45

I'd be planning a day trip to somewhere ancient and interesting to test Birdie's historical knowledge.

PenelopePissedstop · 18/01/2020 14:52

Tell BF “ He’s not the Messiah, he’s a very naughty boy ! “

Cryingoverspilttea · 18/01/2020 14:52

Ask Birdie more about his great grandparents 😁

bitheby · 18/01/2020 14:54

I do believe in woo stuff. Maybe DS has the gift.

He might grow up to be the next Uri Geller or more likely just grow out of it.

Plus it's also really easy to project and interpret kids ramblings in a way they didn't intend by misattributing meaning that isn't there.
