Happy to answer any questions, no matter how personal.

This is such an informative and positive thread for anyone in your situation or with an intersex child. Are you aware that in chat it will disappear in 30 days (I think)?

Thank you for sharing OP.

SimonBridges · 02/07/2018 06:23

Physically, not at all. Emotionally, a bit, as I still struggle with the infertility aspect.

I’ll hold your hand there. I’ve been through that and I’m mentally out of the other side. Infertility is rough.

steppemum · 02/07/2018 11:39

OP - thank you for you openness about a very private issue, you have been asked some very personal stuff.

MsXY · 02/07/2018 13:43

Apart from on this thread, do you primarily describe yourself as 'intersex' or as having Swyers?

Well it doesn't come up that often, but if it did I suppose whichever seemed more relevant. Swyer's is a specific condition, so more precise than just saying intersex.

Do you feel there's a bit of a political agenda to co-opt intersex conditions at the moment?

Yes there is, and I don't think that's helpful for intersex people.

Thank you. Yes, it sucks.

Thanks for this thread OP. I didn’t even know that Swyer syndrome was a thing until now.

Do you have breasts? I’ve just read that people with Swyer syndrome only develop them in about 30% of cases.

Yes, I developed breasts after starting to take oestrogen tablets.

This is by far the most interesting AMA in the current AMA flurry.

It really is.

Underworld345 · 02/07/2018 14:48

Sorry I’m a bit stupid. You have male chromosomes but have female genitals? We’re you brought up as a female until you hit puberty and were diagnosed? Do you have breasts? Do you feel like a man or woman? What do you identify as?

SilverPheasants · 02/07/2018 15:10

@Underworld345 FTFT

steppemum · 02/07/2018 15:10

underworld - I think you should go back and read the whole thread.
OP has answered all you questions clearly, and as they are quite intrusive it is a bit much to ask them all again, just because you are too lazy to read.

Happy for it to be nominated for Classics.

NanFlanders · 02/07/2018 16:54

I would like to nominate for Classics! Anyone know how you do that? Thanks so much for doing this, OP. I think it would be a really excellent resource personally affected.

NanFlanders · 02/07/2018 16:55

for anyone personally affected. D'oh.

Aridane · 02/07/2018 17:40

Report the opening post to MNHQ and suggest a move to Classics

NanFlanders · 02/07/2018 17:56

Thanks Aridane. Have done xx

sanluca · 02/07/2018 18:11

Very interesting, thank you for all the answers. Can I say I think you handle all the questions brilliantly?

W0rriedMum · 02/07/2018 20:19

Such a good thread. I second the move to Classics

Sowhatifisaycunt · 02/07/2018 20:45

OP you sound completely lovely. Thank you for educating me.

Griefbacon · 02/07/2018 20:46

Really interesting and I feel like I’ve really learned something. Please put in classics as a really educational thread. I hope you’re doing ok OP and I for one am glad of this avenue to learn stuff like this. Thank you

MsXY · 02/07/2018 21:12

Thank you, everyone. Halo

Glaciferous · 02/07/2018 21:51

I definitely think this should be in Classics. It is so informative, interesting and honest. If I were to have an intersex child I would love to be able to read this. It definitely should not be deleted.

MsXY, I wish you all the best. This was such a lovely and altruistic thing to post and I have nothing but admiration for you. I'm sorry a couple of posters completely missed the point. Those of us who have read it all probably feel like me - much better informed. Flowers

bastardkitty · 02/07/2018 22:08

Thanks for your thread MsXY . I learned lots.

Somersetter · 02/07/2018 22:57

I'm not sure Classics is quite the right place for it but it definitely should be moved out of Chat so it doesn't disappear. An informative and respectful discussion which has challenged some of my preconceptions. I always thought xy chromosomes made someone a man so this has really made me rethink things. Thank you!

AnyaMumsnet · 06/07/2018 11:25

Hi there everyone, we can see that quite a few of you have asked for this thread to be moved to Classics, so we'll be moving it there shortly.
