Because of my shyness I came out of a chip shop with a portion of fish...

Instead of a cone of chips.

Which is what I asked for but was too embarrassed to correct the woman serving me.

So I ended up eating a massive battered cod on its own for lunch.

Can you please share any silly scenarios you've been in because if your lack of assertiveness to make me feel I'm not alone!

Dp and I ordered fish at fish counter in Tesco once, but when the server wrapped it up it came to £15something, way too much for us to spend on one slice of fish! Instead of politely refusing the fish, we walked round the store a couple
Of times and then discretely left it in the fish refrigerator when the guy want looking Blush we have never been back!

I went to a yoga class this morning by mistake - I meant to go to Body Attack and got the wrong room. I realised immediately but the instructor had seen me and pointed me in the directions of the mats. I spent a whole hour in the class fuming with myself for not just leaving at the beginning. I hate yoga.

I once allowed myself to be introduced as "Sophie" (not my name) to every member of a huge organisation, because I was too shy to correct someone Blush

I once sat through a lecture on electrical engineering because I was too embarrassed to admit my mistake and leave.

I'm in a relatively new job and have a name that's a bit challenging to pronounce (but not ridiculously so). I have had so many insane variations - people are throwing in whole extra syllables just for the hell of it - and I'm way too pathetic to just say "actually, my name is X". I just smile and nod and seethe.

I once bought a bag of cherries in M&S. The checkout girl weighed them and then said 'these are £18, is that ok?' I was too embarrassed to say '£18 for a bag of cherries, forget it' so I nodded and said 'yes that's fine' and paid £18 for a bag of fucking cherries!! She had clearly done something wrong on the weighing machine. I often think of that and how ridiculous I was!!

I've bought clothes that I didn't actually want because I couldn't stand up to the super-pushy sales assistants (and cried afterwards because it was a huge waste of money but the shop assistant made me feel like an idiot for being reluctant to follow her advice).

I've read entire books that I didn't really want to just because people have recommended them or offered copies to me.

I've walked out of cafes with chilled rather than hot coffee because of one error or another. I hate chilled coffee.

The other day I ordered coffee and the staff immediately forgot that they'd taken an order. Instead of reminding them (like a normal person probably would), I sat there for five minutes watching the baristas have a laugh with each other, waiting for them to remember that I was there. Eventually I loudly put my keys down on the counter and stared at them hoping that would dry their attention.

That looks bad written down. I should probably work on my assertiveness Blush

I once bought a pair of trousers that looked terrible, because the assistant had spent ages helping me and I was too shy to admit I really didn't want them after all. Even worse, this was overseas, where, unlike the UK, you couldn't later return for a refund Blush

The security guard where I used to work mispronounced my name. I spent the first few months gently trying to correct him, then gave up as he clearly couldn't get it, and I felt I was embarressing him. Years later I tried to avoid coming in the door with anyone else I knew otherwise they would do a double take to work out who he was talking to, then take the piss out of my inability to sort it out seven years before...

I had a crown fitted at the dentist. The bite didn't feel right so he fiddled about with it, by the 4th fiddling I was getting self-conscious so said it felt fine when it didn't. I'm also far too embarrassed to go back and get him to refit it so I'll just suffer and hope my mouth gets used to it eventually.

I spent £16 on a chicken at our local (bizarrely expensive) butchers. By the time he'd picked it up and weighed it, I couldn't face saying "£16 for a chicken?" So I paid and have never been back.

@itsgoodtobehome I don't know... cherries are fucking crazy expensive! A small box in waitrose is like £8 even in the summer so I can easily see how a bag woudl be 16.

I let colleagues call me Michelle for about 4 years because I was too embarrassed to correct them. My name isn't Michelle.

Stayed on the bus because I was too shy to ring the bell to get off.

I have also bought a bag of cherries for ££££££because I was too embarrassed to correct the store assistant.

I can see a bag of cherries coming to £18 in M&S

Their strawberries are £4.50 a punnet in high strawberry season, cherries are much dearer and the punnets are small - a bag holds more than you think

I once accidentally ordered 20 loaves while supermarket shopping online and instead of saying something when they arrived just nodded and cheerily took possession of my bread mountain.

I have been to buy foundation, then been told "this is the brush for it". Bought both and was shocked at the total price so checked my receipt and the brush cost more than the foundation did! I took it back the next day.

I decided to treat myself to some Chinese takeaway from the selfridges food hall, I thought ok, this will be expensive, maybe about £8 or so but it's a treat, and I'll enjoy it.

They filled the tubs up and it was £36, for a ready meal, for 1 person!! I paid and then cried when I got to the car BlushGrin
