Don't worry, the dog is fine for now!

I got home from shopping this morning and 8 week old DD started crying for a feed. I quickly put away everything I thought was at risk from labrador investigation and sat to feed her. Ddog had a sniff round and then came to cuddle on the sofa. By the time I finished feeding DD it was time to collect DS from nursery.

It did not cross my mind for a second that ddog would split open the bag of sugar all over the living room carpet and eat the vast majority of it. I was wrong.

Obviously I called the vet straight away, who laughed told me he would be fine, just might be a bit hyper.

He threw up on our bed. Right through the duvet, through the mattress and onto the carpet. The super king sized mattress is a write-off.

On the up side, dh says we can go bed shopping at ikea. Deep joy!

Some dogs will steal anything "just in case" - ours didn't have much joy from the bag of flour he stole and carted off to his lair under the table. He was most disappointed! He's eaten a 12 pack of monster munch, quarter of a bag of uncooked rice and had a go at the tub of smoked paprika before. He went to the vet when he ate a tub of cocoa.

We do put stuff away but he can open the cupboards and reach all the counters - we've moved everything up to the second shelf now!
Mind you, he has not wrecked our mattress yet and I suppose being sick is better than Derek's version!

Years ago we had an English setter who opened the fridge and ate the contents

He wasn't even sick afterwards

Aah, you have learned a very unpleasant lesson. My small dog has the greed of a big lab and he started to eat his way through a bag of potatoes.

My parents had their new boss over for dinner and we found the dog up on the sideboard polishing off the posh cheese.

That happened to my brother - his German Shep ate the contents of the fridge on Xmas Eve! The whole lot, the whole turkey even. He was sick though....lots and lots sick.

Actually OP, thinking about it I could have sent our dog round to help you with the clean up. The four legged vacuum cleaner

I am never getting a dog! God almighty, how can you put up with that? I get annoyed with my children nicking a couple of my birthday chocolates.

My lab has eaten an entire family sized apple pie, and on a different occasion my beautifully decorated gingerbread house. On neither occasion was she sick!

My mums lab ate a bar of soap last week. Weird dog. At least the after effects didn't smell too bad!

My aunt's cav 6 month old puppy ate the best part of a fruit cake. It was up on a table, pushed back. He was very greedy but it nearly killed him. Literally sick as a dog.

One of my Boxers ate a Bluetooth headset once....he was shitting bits of plastic and circuit board for days...
The other one ate a packet of contraceptive pills...

Ah no, I can totally sympathise with you. Our dog decided to puke all over our bed recently, luckily not due to the same circumstances but it was at 3.30am and did wake me up as I rolled over into it. Duvet was a write off but luckily I got to it before it hit the mattress!

He also jumped onto an unopened can of hooch (yes, the 90s alcopop - it was for a themed party, honestly) that I'd left on the stairs whilst unloading the shopping and his claws pierced it. Hooch sprayed all over my newly painted walls and carpet. Lemon fresh.

Bloody dogs eh.

I worry sometimes about what it would be like to have, what we call, "real dogs". In my mind these are dogs who eat toothpaste, tear into bins, are sneaky in the kitchen, etc. It is for this reason I have vowed never to get bigger dogs!

I knew of someone who's dog opened the freezer door and ate almost the entire contents. Didn't even wait for any of it to defrost!

Our lab once ate the entire Christmas cake. It was a huge homemade one. She brought it up down the side of the sofa

My old dog, now deceased, got my mothers cat to help steal the entire middle tier of my wedding cake a week after my wedding. She ate it all, including most of the foil it was wrapped in.

She was sick for days, couldn't touch any food for three days. It wasn't pleasant.

My mother had a labradoodle who ate a 4 finger kitkat once - complete with foil and wrapper.

Shat tin foil nuggets for days.

Among my SBT's many, MANY thefts have been a whole box of dark chocolate liqueurs, a good half of DH's pint of Magner's cider he'd left on the floor and a massive bar of chocolate that I stupidly left on the bed when I was about to wrap it for father's day and forgot was there.
A little tip, the charcoal tablets you can buy in Holland and Barrett are very very effective for dog chocolate poisoning. My vet advised giving 2 large tabs and just keeping an eye on her and she was fine. Speak to a vet for advice first though!

Our two cocker spaniels once ate the contents of our full kitchen bin, every scrap of food (we didn't recycle at the time) including a full stale loaf of warburtons toastie loaf. They were both very bloated and tired and barely moved for the rest of the day. No ill effects though thank god!

My Lab is like this too. I have to sellotape my low kitchen cupboards when I'm out as the catches aren't the best and if he got in them he would eat everything. A packet of Opal Fruits including wrappers was his finest hour I think.
