With a human skull in the garden?

Slippersandacuppa · 07/05/2016 20:45

Because I've never been in this situation before.

We've been tidying up the garden and have piles of rubble all over the place. One of our rickety old fences borders a graveyard (very old belonging to ancient church) and I'm assuming the skull sort of drifted under our fence and has been near the top of the soil for a while. I hope.

I've googled but can't seem to find much info. I'll be contacting the parish council on Monday but wondered if it warrants a call to 101 (or whatever it is) to register it just in case it's not a graveyard wanderer Confused

Anyone had a similar experience?!

Yawninghippo if you get stuck with the bone puttering together bit, just sing this song:

BertieBotts · 10/05/2016 21:06

Love the new name Grin

WakeUpFast · 10/05/2016 21:09

Bone putterer togetherer 😂

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 21:14

Why thank you Bertie

Hippo We could call the position 'Lieutenant Ligament' for short? They hold bones together too so not a million miles away from what you'll be doing (in the corner under the silver birch)

educatingarti · 10/05/2016 21:41

So if anyone is interested in genuinely excavating mediaeval skeletons, I know an archaeology site that runs training on this. No previous experience required. Older children can participate too as long as they are accompanied by an adult also doing the training!

HookedOnHooking · 10/05/2016 21:54

Ooh yes. We could have a day out. Team Yorik.

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 21:56

Count me and DS1 and potentially 2 in x

educatingarti · 10/05/2016 21:56

You'd have to dedicate a week to it. You can't learn to dig up bones properly in just a day!!

It's just occurred to me Ouriana that you can't have had many opportunities to display your knowledge here in the past?

I can confirm that the top and hole appear very smooth. It was jagged all the way around - not a smooth oval shape at all.

Need to know how's this ends 😄 Brilliant thread

My DDs think I am an embarrassment too. But for my extensive knowledge of body fluids. Bones are much much cooler. And cleaner.

OooLookShoes · 10/05/2016 22:50

I'd be impressed by your party trick ouriana

You could re enact this scene beautifully

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 22:56

Could you do that for the whole body Ouriana?!

I've just realised that we've come this far without me telling you that I have a cellar that appears to have a boarded-up area in it.

The discovery of YS has further strengthened my resolve to never set foot in the cellar again. Apparently, there used to be a tunnel between our house and the church. 😳

La la la happy place

SilverBirchWithout · 10/05/2016 23:44

Just think of the fun of using the tunnel and popping up behind the vicar during a service and making him/her jump. Grin

You are, (I guess) about 40 miles north of me here in Oxfordshire. Right in the heart of English Civil War territory. I wonder if that's when the tunnel was created?

elephantoverthehill · 10/05/2016 23:52

If the police are involved with YS skull and especially the member of the constabulary who 'looked you up and down', when they visit next ask them to investigate the cellar/tunnel. You never know there might be smugglers.

Silver we must be pretty local to each other, we can car share to the dig/cellar excavation garden party.

Surely we definitely don't need a permit to do the cellar? I've got a head torch I can bring...

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 11/05/2016 06:49

A boarded up area in the cellar?? This is going to be like the Victorian safe again isn't it?

Yawninghippo · 11/05/2016 07:05

Lieutenant Ligament reporting eagerly for grim duty! Grin

Natsku · 11/05/2016 07:16

My DD would be very impressed with your party trick Ouriana she's obsessed with skeletons!

I could not have a boarded up place in a cellar without immediately investigating - clearly read too much Enid Blyton books but its bound to lead to an adventure!

SoupDragon · 11/05/2016 07:33

I'll volunteer for cellar unboarding duty!

educatingarti · 11/05/2016 09:30

I bet the boarded up area is the start of the tunnel!
