Ridiculous things you've only recently realised you've been wrong about your entire life

I genuinely thought if you pulled the reverse cord on ceiling fans, it would circulate warm air.

My friend thought the yellow average speed cameras on motorways were there to look for missing children.

I had another recent revelation but I can't remember it now Hmm

Zzzzzzz....

DadDadDad · 28/11/2015 21:43

OK, Lweji, there's space for 98 more posts on this spread, so if you make a start and we all chip in, maybe we could have unified theory wrapped up this weekend. Grin

Lweji · 28/11/2015 21:44

I can't believe people find these fascinating subject boring. Wink I used to fall asleep, literally literally, when studying physics at uni

Lweji · 28/11/2015 21:47

DadDadDad

You can't unify anything in MN. We'd probably end up with a string and apple fight and a new status for Schroedinger's cat (is it falling or is it floating?).

SirChenjin · 28/11/2015 21:51

No - you two stop right there with your physics, thank you very much Grin

3luckystars · 28/11/2015 22:12

I thought I read every post but I must have missed the "any vey" one. Can someone tell me what that's about?

I thought the guy you heard on the tv talking during the match could be heard by all the people at the stadium. I went to a match once and I hadn't a bulls clue what was happening! I still cant figure out how anyone knows what is going on at a football match. I also thought a hat trick was when they kicked the ball over their head, I know now that is called a bicycle kick.

Signs saying Any Veh was interpreted as German meaning any way, not any vehicle

Samcro · 28/11/2015 22:30

i still don't get the channel tunnel
and have only just got the whole moon sun thing

SirChenjin · 28/11/2015 22:38

I found out on here that brazil nuts grow in their shell inside a bigger nut thing Shock

Wouldn't that be fantastic, I can see the headlines now: Mumsnet posters unravel the mysteries if the universe and discover 'why gravity.

i still don't get the channel tunnel

What is there to get about the Channel Tunnel?

Garlick · 28/11/2015 23:27

Here you go, Pip. It's a train tunnel. Three kinds of trains go through it - freight trains, fast passenger trains and vehicle carrier trains. On the vehicle trains, you stay in your car.

There are three pipes in the tunnel: 2 train tracks and a service tunnel in the middle. Here's how it sits under the sea.

Flumplet · 28/11/2015 23:35

I thought Mexico was in Spain until I was embarrassingly old enough to have known better.

Pipbin · 28/11/2015 23:38

I'm quite happy with the workings of the channel tunnel. I just don't understand what Samcro said she 'didn't get'.

leaningtoweroflego · 28/11/2015 23:38

Wow, that Brazil nut one is a new one on me!

Brilliant Grin

FinestGrundyTurkey · 28/11/2015 23:39

Pipbin gets it, Garlick

Samcro doesn't get it Grin

(Not sure what she doesn't get mind you - whether it's a pipe under the sea vs a proper tunnel under the seabed, probably?)

FinestGrundyTurkey · 28/11/2015 23:40

X-post, Pipbin Smile

WotNoLoobrush · 28/11/2015 23:42

Talking of the chunnel, I always understood that it would be built under the seabed but I thought it was going to be a road tunnel.

FinestGrundyTurkey · 28/11/2015 23:42

I, on the other hand, am actually baffled by this apparently massive revelation that 1st=first, 2nd=second, 3rd=third etc Confused

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/11/2015 23:44

Yes, I'm puzzled by that one too, Finest. What was it people hadn't noticed till now?

Pipbin · 28/11/2015 23:44

I remember watching it on the news the day then two tunnels met. The English guy was called Graham Fagg - a wonderfully British name!

FinestGrundyTurkey · 28/11/2015 23:47

I remember the meeting too, Pipbin (though not Graham Fagg) - it was incredibly impressive that the 2 tunnels actually more or less met in the middle instead of missing by several yards (or worse)!

munkisocks · 28/11/2015 23:57

Thought narwhals weren't real until recently. Thought Al Pacino was a pizza flavour. I knew someone who thought nuns weren't real just something to dress up as on Halloween Grin

Garlick · 29/11/2015 00:16

Thought Al Pacino was a pizza flavour - OMG, that's brilliant!!! Like patsa al dente or all'amatriciana Grin

Grin Grin

Sorry for the Pip/Samcro mix-up.
