Tell me about a random unsolved mystery in your life....

....inspired by the intriguing threads thread!

Does anyone have a mini-mystery, or a story they want to know the end to? We can all supply improbable answers Grin

Here's mine....

DH and I go for a walk around the block most nights before bed . Almost every night, at a particular point in the neighbouring street, there is an 'offering' of baked goods in the road.

Sometimes it is bread rolls. Sometimes, baguette. Once, about 8-9 Mr Kipling's Bakewell tarts. Just lying there in the road.

At first we thought it was for hedgehogs, but then the cakes? And in the road?? Confused

What's your unsolved mystery?

Shock You two have actually switched bowls! That is wild. I hope you're furiously pming each other to figure out how you know each other, ended up at the same party, switched bowls, then happily mn'd together never realizing.

Here's the best photos I can do, I only have my phone which isn't good with close-ups..

Chippy and catthiefkeith ! Shock

Surely you must know each other and have got them mixed up?

That's incredible! Shock

CatThiefKeith · 02/05/2014 22:30

I have no words.

I swear the bowls have never left my house. Wtaf?

I have pm'd Chippy to see if she wants to swap.Smile

LettertoHerms · 02/05/2014 22:35

Actually, that makes me think of that Gilmore Girls episode where the rich boyfriend came to dinner, and he had a "game" where he picked up a bit of tat from one rich family's house and left another, from a different house, in its place.

If the bowls have never left, maybe you have had a prankster over who thought it would be funny to switch a bowl?

CatThiefKeith · 02/05/2014 22:41

If that's the case then there are two pranksters out there, or we know the same one in rl.

Looking forward to getting a reply to see if we are actually linked in some bizarre way now. Smile

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 02/05/2014 22:46

I am utterly gobsmacked.
I will make it my life's mission to reunite our bowls. Shall we call Davina McCall and see if she wants to feature it on long lost families?

CatThiefKeith · 02/05/2014 22:52

Haha!

Utterly dumbfounded.

Have sent you a pm with a view to reuniting them with their families!Grin

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 02/05/2014 23:04

Are the bowls from the same company? Maybe they were packed wrong and you both coincidentally picked up the two which were mixed up?

CatThiefKeith · 02/05/2014 23:08

Ooh, that's possible, I can't remember where I got mine. Possibly IKEA or Wilkos

There are no markings at all on the black ones, but the infiltrator has 'Microwave and dishwasher safe' stamped on the bottom.

hellymelly · 02/05/2014 23:21

LettertoHerms- that is a shirt stud, and a button. They do look some age. What is the flower with the lion? I wander if we can track down the crest. Can you do a census search for your house?

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 02/05/2014 23:33

CatThiefKeith iirc I got mine from Wilkos too

You'd think we'd live near each other but no CatTheif and I are several hundred miles away!

CatThiefKeith · 02/05/2014 23:47

Just thinking it over, and am certain that they were all black to start with .

I bought them just before Xmas one year. Dm was here that year and there is no way either of us would have missed that one bowl didn't match.

Then a few months later I got them all out (usually only dh and I as dd has her own crockery ) and BAM! One had developed squiggly lines.

I am stumped. AndShockShock that I have managed, by pure fluke , to find someone else this had happened to.

FrankSpenser · 03/05/2014 00:56

Is there an update regarding someone locked in the basement??

RE:- the SOS badge. Is there a legend in the red scroll at the bottom?, because if there is, that would help quite a lot. Grin

It "could be(?)" that the SOS badge a " Blood Donor Badge" connected with the Military or even a Union?. If not...maybe an early SOS Talisman?

Just noticed that there's a hole (with wear?) in the backing btw If so?, maybe a delicate chain was originally attached leading to a safety pin, and it's leading me to think that it's what a soldier might give to his Sweetheart/Wife/Mother/Sister during the "Great War"?

Sorry for the questions below
RE:- The Man...the material is puzzling to me!. Confused
Is it wool or cotton?.
Does it smell?, if so...what of?
Have you looked at him with a magnifying glass/microscope to see if he's painted, enameled or even tessellated?

(please don't clean either of them, just leave them as be)

BigRedBall · 03/05/2014 07:22

Oh my god, catinthief and ischippy.... That is crazy! How odd!

Standingonlego · 03/05/2014 10:18

Loving the conclusion to the bowl mystery...now it is even more mysterious :)

I like the wormhole theory best Grin. Or maybe you know each other and have accidentally swapped bowls?

hellymelly · 03/05/2014 14:51

Letterto- I think the SOS may be someone's initials, but given its current use it is rather poignant.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 03/05/2014 15:04

Services of supply?

Though I'm thinking it's something to do with Scotland because of the rampant lion. Scots of ....somewhere in the USA beginning with S?

Sister77 · 04/05/2014 10:43

Regarding the "rust" on clothes, I had this and couldn't work it out. I eventually worked out that a leather "label" on the waist of my jeans (that the belt goes through) stained things when it got wet! It drove me mad. It was a relief to find out.

My mystery is that I was going to Alton towers with friends, we were meeting another group of friends in a lay by ( they were following us). My friends mum got hysterical and begged us not to go/meet friends. We insisted on going but decided we'd meet at towers. On going to towers we passed the lay by where we were supposed to meet to find a lorry had over turned and was on its side by the side of the lay by. Chances are we would have been wiped out as one of us would have been waiting for the others there!

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 04/05/2014 10:51

This thread is great.
Mine is boring. Where the actual fuck have my Dh's socks gone? Packed them all for holiday. Got there, not there. Got back, not here. Where have they bleddy well gone?

BumPotato · 04/05/2014 11:27

I have 12 white soup bowls from M&S. I noticed a while back one of the bowls is an IKEA bowl. There is no ikea nearby. I've no idea where this impostor bowl came from.
