Tell me about a random unsolved mystery in your life....

....inspired by the intriguing threads thread!

Does anyone have a mini-mystery, or a story they want to know the end to? We can all supply improbable answers Grin

Here's mine....

DH and I go for a walk around the block most nights before bed . Almost every night, at a particular point in the neighbouring street, there is an 'offering' of baked goods in the road.

Sometimes it is bread rolls. Sometimes, baguette. Once, about 8-9 Mr Kipling's Bakewell tarts. Just lying there in the road.

At first we thought it was for hedgehogs, but then the cakes? And in the road?? Confused

What's your unsolved mystery?

I've tried enlarging them, the SOS does look like a shirt stud or a tie stud. There seems to be a lion rampant, and something at the bottom, another animal, which makes it look like a family crest possibly? It is so interesting! I am fascinated. I am mulling over how you can find out more. How on earth could they have got there? An animal? Quite extraordinary.

ladypete · 29/04/2014 22:48

Southern that made me smile so much!

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 30/04/2014 00:22

Lettertohermionegranger - you're not in Scotland are you?

LettertoHermioneGranger · 30/04/2014 01:06

I didn't actually think you all would find them interesting! Grin

I don't think I can manage a better picture. It is a lion rampant on the stud, two branches around it and the bottom is just some curlicues. I'm in the US, Jayne.

Standingonlego · 30/04/2014 07:13

Delurking to say I want to see pictures of the space / time switched plain & patterned bowls!

Has anyone had a pearl stud earring suddenly appear in their home? About a quarter inch diameter. I dropped it in my bedroom years ago when I was standing in front of my chest of drawers. Despite emptying all the drawers and shaking out all the clothes I never found it. With all these items appearing/disappearing I just wondered if anyone had seen it Smile

murmuration · 30/04/2014 08:52

Sorry, dfg, what I had appear was a pair of pearl stud earrings, only about 4mm in diameter each.

Dfg15 · 30/04/2014 08:58

Where do all these random objects come from, its so weird!

SnotandBothered · 30/04/2014 09:33

I suppose if you were woo.... which I'm not, you could summize that the random objects that turn up are the same random objects that mysteriously vanish from someone else who knows that they just put them down/dropped them.

Someone somewhere probably found a curly wurly in the middle of the floor a few seconds after the poster upthread through one at the tv that then vanished.

And someone once put those buttons down on a table and then they vanished.

Probably.

If you are woo

Which I'm not

I'm only at page 20 so not sure if anyone else mentioned it but have seen a lot of people with dogs knowing when their owner will be home. I read somewhere before that as the person leaves in the morning their smell will get fainter and fainter, when the person comes home their smell is strong again and so the dog can judge when they'll be home by smelling how faint their smell is and therefore being able to tell the time this way and hence knowing when they're due back. As for unscheduled times then I would think it can work the opposite too and the dogs can just smell when the owner is getting near. Even if the owner is a good few streets away the dog can smell them as a person would be able to smell faint burning from a fire etc. Pretty cool!

My dog always knows when DP will be home and sits next to the door and starts whining before I even see his car come into the street. (And I could be upstairs so the dog can't see me looking but I can hear him whining and waiting) this even happens if DP is home early or at different times.

Anyway I have a small unsolved mystery but it isn't very exciting. I used to have a very expensive bracelet that I'd received as a gift. It had a very tight clasp and was too small to have fallen off. I went to a BBQ and was sure I wore it, when I got home it wasn't on my wrist though and I couldn't imagine how it had fallen off. My mum said she never saw me wear it that day and so I checked the box where I kept it and it wasn't there either, it just vanished! Realistically it must have fallen off somewhere but I had only gone from my house to the car and to a relatives house, we checked the rooms in both houses that I had been in, the car and the space from car to front door and found nothing. So annoying!

Since we've gone into "woo" subjects, there was my urge to buy a lottery ticket the day after my mum died; everything else was awful, so I made a little joke about her "cheering me up" from wherever she is. I've never played the lottery apart from hat one time, but got four numbers and £80

That same night our 13 year old son, who has learning difficulties, kept talking about grandma coming to see him. Of course I thought he meant the many happy past visits, and talked about this to his obvious frustration. Eventually he insisted "no mummy, grandma came to see me last night" - and I guess I never will work that one out ...

NorbertDentressangle · 30/04/2014 16:49

The jewellery and buttons turning up has reminded me of a ring that appeared in our washing machine.

It looks like an engagement style ring with 3 big 'diamonds'.

I suspect it's not 'real' as in not real gold or diamonds would be bloody lovely it was was but it does look quite old, well worn and discoloured.

DP and the DC swear blind they've never seen it before, I've certainly never seen it before but we've no idea how it appeared or where from.

this isn't remotely wooo but has slightly perplexed me for YEARS!

about 20 years ago, fuck I'm old used to live with then boyf in a ground floor flat below another flat with a couple in. Only knew them to say hello to, seemed nice enough. Obviously their bedroom was above ours though and quite often we could hear the DTD about 5 or 6 am (not that we were listening but you know thin walls and all that!)

way to go, early morning peeps, fair enough ... but this is the bewildering thing.... there was always the sound of the hoover about 15 mins after the last gasp! wtf?!?

on second thoughts, maybe i don't want to know Blush

LadyFlumpalot · 01/05/2014 20:01

Why does the baby ALWAYS wake up just as my tea is getting plated up? No matter when we eat, when she goes to sleep or how long she has slwpt for, as soon as my dinner is on a plate she's awake...

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 01/05/2014 20:52

CatThiefKeith sorry this is a little late but hear are my bowls!

SolitudeSometimesIs · 01/05/2014 21:06

LadyFlumpalot my baby does that too. I've kind of given up eating hot meals.

hellymelly · 01/05/2014 21:59

bixie- drugs drugs drugs. However nice the neighbourhood, that is what my money would be on.

4nnabella · 02/05/2014 11:50

Adele could it have been the shower making a hoover-type noise?

AdeleNazeem · 02/05/2014 12:33

4nnabella no, I wish it was, that would be good but we could definitely hear the hoover going across the floor!
Confused

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 02/05/2014 13:18

Letterto...The "button" on the right looks like it's Georgian (1820 ish?) And for some reason I'm getting a feeling, that it's Italian in origin.

hellymelly · 02/05/2014 16:11

I was going to say Georgian too. I showed DH who has looked at a lot of old jewellry and that was his thought. Although it is hard to tell from a small pic.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 02/05/2014 20:26

Letter, any chance of a closer look @ the Georgian button and possible the reverse aswell?
