I bet there's been one of these before but who remembers stuff about the 70's, looking back to me it was all a bit weird.

So some of my memories.

Mary Mungo and midge, the music in the lift. my orange space hopper, gridsy marbles and clackers.
Dehydrated potato, free milk you had to drink at school.
Playing out from after breakfast until dark or tea.

I remember loads of these things, but from the 80's!

Having a massive TV with a dial
Buying singles in Woolies
Being outside all day playing
Everything closed on Sundays
Gas fires that had the mini explosion-we used to come down on a Saturday morning and light the gas fire with England Glory matches, and jump back when the it lit-at 6 or 7!(mind you my parents were negligent even by olden days standards)
No seat belts
My mums Renault 4
Panda pops, warm from the ice cream van
Bringing empty bottles of pop back to the shop for 2 p
glue sniffers in the park
finding pages of porn mags in bushes, and them having women with bushes!
Instant Whip
Cork floor tiles

I had an orange space hopper too.

I'm glad someone mentioned banda machines because I was talking about them recently and everyone there told my I was imaging things that they never existed.

Follyfoot · 02/02/2014 00:19

Some more:

Tinned Heinz (I think) beefburgers
Rise n' Shine powdered orange drink
Frozen concentrated orange juice
Scampi/chicken in the basket
I'll risk it for a Swisskit
Spong mincers which clamped to the worktop and were used to make a Monday curry from the Sunday roast
Hair lacquer in little pink or blue plastic bottles that your Mum got refilled
Look In magazine - it was 5p
Hairdryers with a long tube and a plastic hood which inflated
Plastic rain hats

Anyone said stand pipes yet?

Shaky · 02/02/2014 00:27

Rice paper 1p per sheet but it was a novelty to have paper you were allowed to eat.

Pint of beer jelly sweets = beer flavour Haribo (if only!)

Anyone remember Chris Tarrant narrating school programmes?

I think it may have been called "Hold Tight", I sooooo wanted to go on the corkscrew.

10 years later, I was allowed, we queued for 2 hours and it was shit.

Whathaveiforgottentoday · 02/02/2014 00:47

Getting turned away from the cinema because it was full. They used to bring a stand out and place it at the end of the queue.
Squashed hedgehogs. Im guessing we don't see many hedgehogs today as they were all squashed in the 70's.
Coming back from family parties in the car and my dad putting the seats down and me and brothers laid down sleeping on the back of the car. Seat belts were never used and my dad always used to drink and drive.
Misty magazines which went on to merge with tammy to become tammy and mistry magazine, although that might have been the 80's by then.

morethanpotatoprints · 02/02/2014 00:50

Shaky

We went with school soon after the corkscrew had opened. There were no barriers and no huge queues only a few schools went then.
As it goes round twice, me and my friend went round 16 times before we got off.
Every time we went to get off we were pushed back down again.

I went on it again, many years later, it was shit.

proper power cuts that went on for hours. We had a camping stove and all the neighbours used to come round for soup
We had some good snow as well - it seemed really deep although that memory might be because I was a good deal shorter then Grin

Follyfoot, my aunt has one of those hair dryers. Its still in good nick, and she takes it on holiday with her, camping, abroad, everywhere:)

She takes an extension lead and sits in the garden with it on.
