the kids have named the baby budgie....

For reasons which have passed me by, we seem to be having to hand rear a baby budgie.

It is very small and wasn't responding well yesterday. It appears to have grey feathers, like it's dad.

I warned the kids that it was likely to die, and they were not, under any circumstances to give it a name not after the rabbit debacle.

Naturally, I overheard "well, he's grey. We should name him after something to do with grey".

uh oh

"Graeme"

Graeme the budgie. So named, because he's grey. Hope the fecker lives now. Cheered me up no end.

Graeme.

Oh bless him. I ve just seen this. So glad hes ok. You are amazing for managing to find a vet for him , I have to go to the text town for mine as well. Its such a pain.

You are being careful with him out and about ? Can he fly yet ? Would hate for him to do a runner. Or a flutter ! :)

JollyStoutGiant · 03/11/2013 21:36

This is lovely :)

littlewhitebag · 03/11/2013 21:50

I have just looked at his picture. Graeme is very cute. Good name too.

We had several budgies when i was young.

The first was called Nippy because, well he was a nippy little bugger.

The second was called Bluey. It's obvious why he was called this.

The third was called..... The Fonz. Thanks Bro. Hmm

thegreylady · 03/11/2013 21:58

Mine was called Tony Grin
gussie you seriously need to write a book your style is absorbing and chuckle making. Graeme could make you a fortune there could be a series of Graeme Gussie books about a blue budgie named Graeme because he started og grey. I will buy several copies.

PacificDogwood · 03/11/2013 22:14

gussie, just as an aside, you do realise that I am doing my PFE every time I see your NN? BlushGrin

Yes, write that book - I'll buy several copies too.

"But how many rats have you taken for breast surgery?"

There are some things you never would have thought you'd read on MN Hmm

killpeppa · 04/11/2013 00:10

There some things you never would have thought you'd read anywhere. Ever.

jetstar · 04/11/2013 19:47

We need a budgie update... Worrying here (fingers crossed for Graeme)

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2013 19:57

And people think that the inhabitants of DogHouse are a bit bonkers... Grin (My DD plans on having many different types of dogs, one of whom will be called Graham/Graeme, I don't know how she spells it - that'll be the rescue Greyhound of course)

footflapper · 04/11/2013 19:58

DH found my long begged for dream dog. He was free and came with a bed and a lead and toys..... a month later and he ate 2 socks and the belt of a dressing gown. He cost us over £900 AND he has not learned anything glares at the dog trying to chew my sofa throw

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 05/11/2013 16:05

This is a nice thread - hope Graeme is okay :)

gussiegrips · 05/11/2013 19:04

Thanks for the collective good wishes for the Stumpy One.

He's doing ok - still refusing to develop any useful skills (like feeding himself) but, he is looking better all round and is putting a little bit of weight on his leg..

And (drumroll) he flapped his wings. Just a wee bit, and to no avail - but, seems he has realised that his wings aren't crutches and could afford a form of transportation other than hopping onto a passing foot high death by treading risk

DH wants us to rehome him. He alleges that he has developed an allergy to feathers, which is not affected by the feather cushioned settee/feather pillows/feather duvet. I think DH has developed an allergy to the constant cheeping which is fairly irritating

But, DH can swivel.

Graeme enjoys my company, chats back to me and nibbles my ear. Which is way more than DH seems to Ohmaigawsh - do you think I should post in "relationships" - "I'm having an emotional affair with a special-needs budgie"?

Couple of new budgie-porn pics up. He remains fairly scraggy.

Bogeyface · 05/11/2013 19:10

Tell your DH you have decided that yes, you will look into rehoming.....but for him as you are allergic to whining!

Spacefrog35 · 05/11/2013 19:11

So cute!

Definitely keep Graeme & send the DH for rehoming Wink

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 05/11/2013 19:36

Oh those pics are so sweet. I'm glad he's ok.

We had a blue budgie once, until my sister decided to let him out of the cage for a fly about. In the garden. Sad

Not the brightest fairy light on the tree...

CinnamonPorridge · 05/11/2013 20:06

Waa, rehome him to me!

Honestly, gussie-dh, maybe you dislikes all the attention Greame is getting Wink

ActualAl · 05/11/2013 20:31

Thanks Gussie! I've loved reading this thread!

MeanAndMeaslyMiddleAges · 05/11/2013 21:08

I'm slightly concerned that I read the rat breast surgery post with not so much a flicker or surprise. To me that is a perfectly normal thing to do, having had about 40 rats over the years. The realisation that so many people think it's the maddest thing ever is a bit disconcerting though!

PacificDogwood · 05/11/2013 22:12

Yeah, Graeme is doing well Grin!

Deffo rehome your DH, gussie, easy come, easy go, you can always get another one, but where would you get another Graems from??
