To be miffed at "Gift list for mother of the baby" enclosed in *Baby naming ceremony* invitation?

doubleshotespresso · 12/06/2013 23:38

So some close friends (who married in church), but now claim to be atheist are holding a naming ceremony for their 8 month old first baby in an hotel.....

The invitation is beautiful with a map, timings "event closes at 11pm"?

The gift list ranges from £30-to £300, all items for the mother, cosmetics, trinkets, jewellery, pampering breaks, personalised hand-bound stationery and photo albums...

Anybody know the drill for these naming ceremonies? Are we supposed to guess a gift for the baby? Or just congratulate the mother for deciding on a name?

I have read this a dozen times and am staggered beyond belief-DP read it and fell into hysterics....

My gut tells me to go along with Jo Malone scented nappies or something.

Somebody please tell me this is not normal?!?!?!

How wonderful op, you really deserve all te happiness in the world. Wish there was a blabbing emotion

MumnGran · 24/06/2013 18:33

Good things happen to good people, double
I have always believed that what you cast out into the world comes back to you!!

The size of the bouquet from the GP-I-L's says it all really.
If you hadn't already proved it here, I think its just been confined that you are a genuine treasure ...and I hope DP knows what a lucky chap he is to have found you.

Mmmnotsure · 24/06/2013 18:37

Congratulations, double.

Print the thread out. Then you can write it yourself as well, but with the primary source available (unless Classics calls?).

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 24/06/2013 18:42

I too feel like I have got to the end of an epic novel! And such a happy ending, that it could only be a Hollywood film! Perhaps the DDP could actually play himself in such a film?

double, I had to admit I shed a tear when you mentioned your DST's grandparents. Congratulations!

blueemerald · 24/06/2013 18:49

Truly amazing chain of events. I thought I was going to make it through without crying but the last bit about your DP's "ex-inlaws" (that sounds so crass given the circumstances...) broke me. I was sobbing.

TittyBojangles · 24/06/2013 18:56

One of my favourite threads ever, what a fabulous update. Congratulations. And we all await how the ceremony goes, both of them!

RenterNomad · 24/06/2013 18:57

Lovely end. And all because you held back from dissing and ditching your friend, and held onto her instead!

A bit like the story of Janet and Tam Lin : she held onto him as he transformed into terrible shapes, until she freed him from the terrible Fairy Queen.

LittleMissGerardButlerfan · 24/06/2013 19:06

Oh dear my eyes see to be watering, it must be hayfever I'm not crying, not me

Congratulations OP :o

Cersei · 24/06/2013 19:08

TreeMonkey · 24/06/2013 19:18

Wow, I read the OP, flipped to the end and then realised I needed to read the whole thing. Two hours later and I'm still in the office reading!!
I loved it, what an amazing story and stonking huge congratulations double.

You really are a star.

iwantanafternoonnap · 24/06/2013 19:38

Congratulations and your last posts caused a few tears. It is lovely to read something ending so positively for all involved....well apart from the evil sister that is!

Enjoy both baby days and hope you have a wonderful engagement party.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/06/2013 19:42

So OP, will you be hiring your friends planner for your wedding?

MushroomSoup · 24/06/2013 20:02

💍
My fave ever thread!
Congratulations!

chocolatesolveseverything · 24/06/2013 20:04

Oh congratulations!!!!!

Are you SURE you don't need a currency case?

SingingSands · 24/06/2013 20:22

Flowers Wine

For you Double, for keeping us all entertained and in thrall of your kick-ass bare stress actions! You are a star!

I've been following this thread in bits and pieces and and I'm thrilled at the outcome for your friend and even more for you!

doubleshotespresso · 24/06/2013 20:46

Thanks very much.....

No need for a planner thanks very much!

And no currency wallet either.....

So we just had dinner and DSS(1) pipes up "So this wedding then..... Do we have to wear anything like, dodgy?"

DP says "Well no, I don't think so, probably just a nice suit or something and a buttonhole."

DSS(1) "you mean like a flower thing?" Looks in panic at DSS(2)

DSS(2) to DSS(1)"See, I told you didn't I?"

Totally deadpan DSD to me: "just for that you need to choose the most jank pink colour you can find.... And those ties from the old days."

**jank=nasty/not very pleasant.

Uhoh. Confused

how old are the DSC? their lingo baffles me Grin

doubleshotespresso · 24/06/2013 21:12

DSS Twin boys are 14 and DSd is 11.

Their language baffles us, I think that is generally the idea... It drives DP absolutely mental when they talk like this, it makes mealtimes translate like a meeting of gangsters sometimes and when their friends join them it becomes multiplied by 100....

They are forever getting told off and just revert to it when they think we are relaxed, but it is very tedious and exhausting.....

None of them have any idea how ridiculous they look and sound, white kids in their school uniform, talking like Jamaican rapstars..... It can be maddening and entertaining in equal measure....

I am actually in love with this thread - congratulations Grin

Just had to explain to DP why I was grinning like a loon at my ipad and sniffling...

echt · 24/06/2013 22:03

What a splendid ending. Congratters all round.

Bogeyface · 25/06/2013 00:05

Is a tie "like from the old days" a kipper? A bow tie? WTF?!

Please persuade your DSC to create a dictionary of teenspeak for us oldies!

Oh and I would go for cerise pink for the most jank colour!

doubleshotespresso · 25/06/2013 00:11

We think she meant a cravat, but not entirely sure! Very early days for plans tbh, but no pink would not be a colour I would ever choose......

Teenspeak dictionary? Hmmm it would rquire constant updating....... Grin

OP posts:
Ponders · 25/06/2013 00:27

my first thought was bow tie
second was cravat

but who knows when 'the old days' were in their heads? Wink

SoupDragon · 25/06/2013 07:46

Find pictures of page boys in sailor suits. That'll shut them up :)
