Diary, air con does use more fuel, radio doesn't. Radio uses battery life, if you let it running with engine off, the battery dies (eventually).

I wonder how people without loo brushes clean their loo.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 02/06/2013 18:50

Oh thank you Smile

I will be back!

Maat · 02/06/2013 18:51

I thought air conditioning used less fuel than if you had it switched off but had the windows open. Something to do with drag I think Confused

John and Simon are the anglicised versions of their real names.
John is Yohanon in Hebrew, Ioannes in Greek (the NT was written in Greek).
Simon is Shimon in Hebrew.
Peter is Cephas, which means rock, so translated as Petros, Greek for rock. Etc etc.

If you let the car coast in neutral you use very little fuel, but you do use some as the engine is still ticking over. You would use about as much as you do if you leave the car stationary with the engine running. You should not of course turn the car off when you are driving it as the steering locks and then you are in all sorts of trouble.

i have always thought (since hearing it somewhere) that we yawn in order to get more oxygen to our tired brains

CalamityJ · 02/06/2013 18:58

Brilliant idea for a thread. My question is why don't we remember things from being a baby? How does our brain decide what to remember and what to forget?

zebrafinch · 02/06/2013 18:59

Why do dogs not get stds?
Why given the size of urban bird populations do we not see more dead and dying birds everyday in the street??

CalamityJ I studied memory before I did pro bono work with families affected by Alzheimer's/dementia. Apparently are memories are stored in a bookshelf/filing system fashion. So memories are always there but as we get older and create new memories they pushed back to make room for the new ones. That's why when a person has Alzheimers/dementia they can suddenly remember things from years and years ago that they've never mentioned before, the affect of the illness is that the "filing system" of our memories gets thrown about essentially and then it's all out of order. So most recent events are not being stored as the most memories etc.

Does that make sense? Not sure I've explained it well.

Why does all the media make such a fuss saying that William and Kate's baby will be 3rd in line to the throne even if it is a girl, because of the new legislation that has been passed.

If the baby is a girl it would have been 3rd in line to the throne anyway, new legislation or not. The new legislation only matters if they have a girl first and then go on to have a boy.

Why is everyone thinking it's so significant RIGHT NOW when it won't be significant for a couple of years, if then? Are they thick or what?

suckmabigtoe · 02/06/2013 19:03

i use toilet cleaner, rubber gloves and a disposable toilet cleaning wipe. followed by bleach.

Muuuuuuumcanihave · 02/06/2013 19:03

Another one who decided what animals to have as pets? Werent all animals wild at some point so who decided which ones would be better domesticated (is that even a word)

Alisvolatpropiis · 02/06/2013 19:04

Oh I see TSC. I don't know why the person who told me it was rude didn't just say so! Hardly scandalous! Grin

ComeAlongPond · 02/06/2013 19:07

This is an interesting article about memory - I'm sure I read it on the BBC app but it seems like the same article.

are wolves still domesticated nowadays?

Coffeeformeplease · 02/06/2013 19:09

suck, can you take the top off and have a look inside? There is a loop thing attached to the floating device, sometimes it comes away. Easy to put back. Sorry, crap explanation.

suckmabigtoe · 02/06/2013 19:10

TSC so why does it 'feel' like you experienced it months or even years ago?

Coffeeformeplease · 02/06/2013 19:10

TSC that's fascinating, never knew that.
