to get disproportionately angry when songs do not make sense

In the car today, radio on, and they start playing All Around The World by Lisa Stansfield. Instantly I felt the rage creeping up.

'Been around the world and I, I
I can't find my baby,
I don't know why, why he's gone away '

YES YOU FUCKING DO, LISA! Allow me to refer you to your own words, not 30 seconds ago, when you said (and I quote):

'We had a quarrel, and I let myself go
I said so many things, things he didn't know
And I was oh, oh so bad'

And then, and then, LISA, you go on to say

'I did too much lying, wasted too much time'

So you do know, you know exactly why he's gone away, so you should just STFU and concentrate on finding him to apologise. Not singing that bullshit trying to make us feel sorry for you, when clearly it is all YOUR FAULT.

I feel better for that. Anyone else?

Grin Grin Wine

Melpomene · 20/12/2011 08:20

Yes MsMarple, also it should be "good as HIM", shouldn't it?

Re the Katy Perry plastic bag line, I think that may be referencing the film American Beauty which has an extended scene depicting a discarded plastic bag floating in the breeze. It's portrayed as being beautiful and profound in the film but left me pretty cold.

MsMarple we don't 'do' that rainbow song. I remember being taught it at primary school then being confused about learning the correct order!

bettythebuilder · 20/12/2011 10:35

It's a seasonal one, so I only need to get disproportionately angry at this time of year, but if a little drummer boy had turned up Parruppapumpumming a couple of days after I gave birth, I would have set the ox on him.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 20/12/2011 11:04

Oh gosh while we're on George Michael, thanks for this, George:

"When you've been loved
When you know it holds such bliss
Oh the lover I still miss
Was Jesus to a child"

Er - what? Nice paedophiley Jesus you have there.

Also from Boney M:

"Belfast - it's the country that's changing!"

No no no no no no. Not a country. No.

Saturdaynightbeaver · 20/12/2011 11:04

Would you like to swing on a star, carry moonbeams home in a jar, OR WOULD YOU RATHER BE A FISH??? Are these really my only two choices?

RudolphthePinkNosedReindeer · 20/12/2011 12:13

No, but for the purposes of the song, consider these to be your only choices for the duration of one verse Grin Love that song, always thought I might rather be a pig!

RudolphthePinkNosedReindeer · 20/12/2011 12:15

And MissMarple you are so right about the rainbow song, it has irritated me for Decades.

WidowWadman · 20/12/2011 12:26

When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie...

Make your mind up already, is it pizza or pie?

BelfastRingingOutForXmasBloke · 20/12/2011 12:39

Well, it is pizza pie.

Sorry the songwriter didn't use the common abbreviation, 'pizza'.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 20/12/2011 12:47

I have never once been hit in the eye by a pizza.

RudolphthePinkNosedReindeer · 20/12/2011 13:28

But they are both large and round.

There, for me, the resemblance ends.

BelfastRingingOutForXmasBloke · 20/12/2011 14:03

BoF, you've obviously never been in a brawl at the Original Chicago Pizza Pie Company.

(Fond memories of fights gone by in the USA...)

BalloonSlayer · 20/12/2011 14:05

When pizzas were first introduced to the UK in the seventies they were called Pizza Pies.

Saturdaynightbeaver · 20/12/2011 14:17

Have sung my way through a bit more RudolphPinkNose and really that, indeed a mule is another option being offered to me if I don't decide to swing on the said star Xmas Grin

Saturdaynightbeaver · 20/12/2011 14:19

*realise not really

RudolphthePinkNosedReindeer · 20/12/2011 16:10

Well it's a false dilemma song - it presupposes you wouldn't want to be a fish, mule or pig, and therefore makes you choose to swing on a star. Personally, I would love to carry moonbeams home in a jar Grin

"In the summertime" by Mungo Jerry

ever single line offends me.

housemum · 20/12/2011 16:25

Katiescarlett - yep, a winner every time there. Just shag her if she's poor (no need to pay for a meal) then go drink-driving, hmmm...

Banal lyrics - Supergrass, All Right. "We are young, we run green, we've got teeth nice and clean".

RudolphthePinkNosedReindeer · 20/12/2011 16:45

Didn't know those were the lyrics. Spoilt the song for me now!

KatieScarlettsCrackers · 20/12/2011 16:57

You should be thanking us, is a horrible song.

TheApprentice · 20/12/2011 17:01

MsMarple, when I was at school many moons ago our singing teacher made us sing, "Red and yellow, indigo and green.....!

I don't know why she was so pernickity over that bit as she was quite content for us to sing "Listen with your eyes" a few lines later!

MERLYPUSS · 20/12/2011 19:42

Has no one mentioned T'pau Chine in Your Hand? What a crock! And the fact that she still trolls it out again and agai.nn and again. Makes me want to stab someone

KatieScarlettsCrackers · 20/12/2011 21:03

YY to China in your hand.

Just because it rhymes, Carole, doesn't make it right.
