Great big effing boil on my neck! Help!

I've NEVER had a boil, ever, and now, 4 days after I go from long hair to a short bob, I've got something that looks like another nipple. It HURTS! I've put metanium on it and it's coming up to a point but there's no head on it. I don't feel too well either but that might be unrelated.

What should I do?! Help!

Poor you Holly. You're bound to feel drained. (see what I did there! WinkGrin)

Have a good cry and be kind to yourself today. And give the boil a biscuit.... He's been through the mill too. X

honeyandsalt · 18/08/2011 12:09

morningcoffee -they're caused by an everyday bacteria getting into the skin via a cut/nick. more info

holly I have been warbling "did you ever know that you're my hero" thinking of you putting up with the zealous nurse whilst doing the washing up. For real.

b1uebells · 18/08/2011 12:20

Sorry it was so painful :( I won't be so rude disgusting as to request pictures as now it's dressed there is nothing good or interesting to see Grin

BagofHolly · 18/08/2011 12:34

Doctorswife, it didn't pop as such, just oozed out and kept on going. This morning I don't know what she did, I was too busy gripping the seat and roaring. When they change the dressing tomorrow I'm going to get another picture.

Now here's the thing. PN today said that I'd need it repacking over the weekend. We're in Essex, we've got a BIG deal of a wedding on Saturday in Dorset. I can't really go, can I? Sad It was going to be the first night we'd had, just the two of us in the one room, since we had the twins as they're staying at home with my parents. Bugger. Bugger.

Chimchar, he's eating iodine packing.

Honeyandsalt, I'm so touched I'm your hero! My heart pumps custard, and I feel a bit like Oprah/Ellen McArthur etc.

Will you be near Weymouth?

There is a walk-in centre (link) and they have a phone number, you could give them a call now and see if they would be able to re-pack for you.

AitchTwoOh · 18/08/2011 12:48

your neck pumps custard too...

sure you can go to the wedding, can't you get them to re-pack you locally?

AitchTwoOh · 18/08/2011 12:49

or at least get it re-packed at home JUST before you leave?

honeyandsalt · 18/08/2011 12:50

Oh no way, Cear Kidson has fucked up your week enough already, there MUST be some way of having it repacked in Dorset. Either call NHS 24 (they seem to be v good at making appointments for one) or your PN see what she suggests.

MorningCoffee · 18/08/2011 12:50

Thank you honeyandsalt, blimey what an awful experience for you holly.

RustyBear · 18/08/2011 12:51

Holly - could your DH do it? My DH had his done a couple of times by the PN, then I did it with her watching and she gave us packing, gloves & dressings & I did it from then on.

WalterFlipschicks · 18/08/2011 13:05

I have just Read this entire thread, i love spot squeezing an d i am sorry holly that it was so painful, but good god, instead of reading and viewing the pics as they were added i scrolled through the whole album one by one, it was like on of those flicker things you do as a child ( where the pic seems to be moving) it was like watching neck vomit!

whomovedmychocolate · 18/08/2011 14:01

Why not stick a few flowers in Sauron and pretend it's a fascinator? We've all certainly be fascinated with it this week Grin

diddl · 18/08/2011 14:06

OMG it sounds awful.

When I had mine lanced they then checked that I had painkillers & told me to take it easy for the rest of the day, move my arm as little as possible & definitely not to raise it.

ZombieWhirl · 18/08/2011 14:06

OH

MY

GOD!

I read the thread last night but couldn't open the links to see the pictures. I just looked at the last one and BLIMEY! No wonder everyone said go to A&E.

BagofHolly - you deserve a medal. That plus twins. Incredible.

GeraldineAubergine · 18/08/2011 14:37

Tbh I have seen less dramatic abcesses than yours in theatre having a GA to clean them up, you are super brave!

Grockle · 18/08/2011 14:44

There are walk-in centres in Bournemouth too, if you're in that area. Hope you can go to the wedding. I wonder if any MNers will be there - they may recognise you from your boil Smile

Sidge · 18/08/2011 14:45

My Top Tip before your appointment tomorrow is to TAKE SOME DRUGS. About an hour before you go take some hoofing-great fuck-off painkillers because it will hurt like a bastard to have it redressed.

If your husband is up for redressing it over the weekend then there's no reason why you can't go away. Take him with you tomorrow and the PN can show him what to do and give you supplies for the weekend.

mischiefmummy · 18/08/2011 14:57

for all of you that love to squeeeeze - this site if for you!

popthatzit.com/

It's gory so be warned!!

BagofHolly, hope you're in the mend very soon!

JemimaMuddledUp · 18/08/2011 15:14

I was going to suggest that your DH could be shown how to pack it too.

My DH had a big cyst removed from a his back at the beginning of the year and had to have it dressed every other day for weeks. After the dressing fell off out of hours they gave me the stuff so that I could patch it up if necessary which I enjoyed in a strange way

HazeltheMcWitch · 18/08/2011 16:13

Poor Holly, poor poor Holly. I second everything that JodieHarsh said at (Thu 18-Aug-11 10:34:09)...

Well, apart from the Trojan bit. Unless she is proposing that we use you as some sort of biological weapon? New levels of cunning genius there. But yes, you have been ridiculously brave, AND you have continued to indulge us freakish lot here, so you are most definitely allowed one little wobble. More actually, should you so wish.

And please know how sublimely happy it has made me that you have also worked in a Big Family Reveal into the tale. Truly, this is the thread that keeps on giving!

CocktailMumma · 18/08/2011 18:49

Oh poor you! It must be agony. But thanks for the piccies - most excellent!!

BagofHolly · 18/08/2011 21:11

Hi, thanks for the problem solving ideas for the wedding. I'm going to speak to the nurse tomorrow and see can I get it done v v early on Saturday. As for DH doing it, I'm afraid that's a non starter. He squirms at most bodily fluids, and even though he means well, has giant hands with fingers like cows' tits, so no, he's not getting anywhere near me and my Resident Evil.

I do want to go, but my planned outfit won't be enhanced in any way by an A5 size dressing.

Im a bit worried about tomorrow. This different nurse is brutal. She did a course of intramuscular injections for me, in the harris, and I swear she was trying to hit bone. Why be delicate if brute force and hamfistedness will do? I'm following the advice higher up and am getting cranked up on anything I have to hand. Its first thing in the morning so I'll have to go to playgroup a bit stoned. That's not a bad thing though.

Haven't peeked under my dressing. He's asleep, best leave him be.

just to let you know that we are all with you in a not actually going through the pain sort of way

I do hope you find a way of going to the wedding, that would be such a shame!
