To wake four sleeping children, then drag them to the shop in the pouring rain?

Okay I need advice, have posted here because its the busiest place. My Dc are all sleeping, aged 7yrs nearly3yrs and 18months.

I have an aquaintances newborn with me who I am looking after unexpectedly after a frantic phone call. Newborn is three weeks old, mum has been taken ill, rushed to A&E. She is a single parent and has no family nearby, I only know her through mother and toddlers.
Baby was dropped to me half hour ago by her very elderly neighbour, there was no-one else to take him when she was taken ill, he would have gone into emergency care Sad

I have nappies and clothes, but baby is usually breast fed. I am no longer feeding any of mine. I dont have formula.

Its pissing down outside, all the kids are fast asleep and will object to being woken or walking anywhere,I dont own a double buggy, no longer have a sling, and dh is working away.

How the fuck am I gonna get a newborn a 18month 3yr old and poorly 7yr old to the shop and back. aggggghhh!

Its a 6/7 min walk there, I could run in under 5mins, should I do that do you think? Leaving them sleeping? Or waking the seven yr old and talking to him on the homephone from my mobile? would that be insane? or is it more insane to try and get them all up and there with only one buggy and torrential rain.
Someone HELP!!!

update

I'm sorry to have not updated recently. I have explained to a couple of lovely ladies through private messages, that I am worried about my friend being recognised in RL as I have obviously given out a lot of information about myself and her.

The last thing I want is for her to think she can't trust me , or god forbid for her exH to somehow use this against her (he hasn't been in contact, doesn't pay towards and hasn't been interested in getting access to baby so far but apparently is not a very nice character)

I thought it best to let the thread die down.
However, I will say that mum is still in hospital her condition is improving but she will be there for a while longer Sad But babys Nanna is coping well with him, and he seems to have settled and bonded with her Smile

Hope that you all understand.
I will update again, when my friend is on the mend properly and I have her blessing.

Thank you for all your messages of support and good wishes, you are a seriously lovely lot for a bunch of vipers Wink

Pom - I've been reading this thread but haven't commented before now. Thanks for coming back to update and just wanted to say what an amazing thing you have done. YOu may not know this woman well but she obviously recognised in you someone who would be there for her and is a genuinely kind human being. Best of luck to you all.

Stac2011 · 23/01/2011 15:08

thanks for letting us know how things have been going pombear. Take care xx

MsKLo · 23/01/2011 18:31

Thanx pom

FortunateHamster · 23/01/2011 19:13

Thanks for the update Pombear - could you ask MNHQ to perhaps edit info out or delete specific posts if you want to keep the overall thread but lose some of the potentially identifying stuff?

Poledra · 24/01/2011 10:56

Thanks for the update, Pom, and totally take your point re identifying your friend.

My very best wishes to her and her little boy.

And, once again, I take my hat off to you, for being the kind of human being we all aspire to be.
