Stop paying water bills

Assuming that there isn’t anyone who isn’t outraged by the performance of the water companies, what would happen if we ALL stopped paying our water bill from a specific date as a protest? My understanding is that they can’t legally stop supplying water to households because of non-payment and I guess for individual households it would eventually escalate to bailiffs. But what if there was an organised protest movement to hit them where it counts? Could they ignore or even deal with it if there were thousands - or even hundreds of thousands? Just an idea but what do you think?

I assume you are talking about sewage dumping? Or the volume of leaks the industry has?

How would not paying your water bill prevent either of those things happening?

Trashed credit ratings, for a start.

But what if there was an organised protest movement to hit them where it counts?

Wasn't there one over energy prices last winter? how well did that work out?

With the well publicised solvency issues of the water companies, it would probably push at least some of them into insolvency so the government would eventually have to step in.

The government don't have a great track record in dealing with infrastructure (HS2, PFI, pot holes etc) so probably won't make anything better.

So who will pay for clean drinking water delivered to our homes? Or wastewater to be taken away and cleaned?

They are the primary things we pay for.

Sewage leaks / dumps needs to be dealt with as a separate issue IMO.
