Mumsnet founder puts users’ questions to Chancellor Rishi Sunak

Hello

As you may have heard if you’re one of the 200 Mumsnet users who posted on this thread yesterday with a question for the Chancellor Rishi Sunak, Mumsnet founder Justine went to the Treasury yesterday to grill the Chancellor.

We had so many brilliant questions and we wish we could have asked them all but we chose a selection that we thought best represented the topics raised - from economic policy and inequality to women's rights and from the Chancellor's tax affairs to childcare.

You can watch it here. Let us know what you think!

Any chance of a transcript?

SpindleInTheWind · 27/04/2022 15:00

Thanks for this - will have a look.

passport123 · 27/04/2022 15:03

Transcript please. Listening to him blether on and probably not answer any questions for 25 minutes would be bad for my blood pressure - be better to just skim it and see how much he avoided saying anything.

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/04/2022 15:04

Thank you @JuliaMumsnet I agree that a transcript would be useful.

ENoeuf · 27/04/2022 15:09

I got five minutes in then got fed up. Questions from hiphopotomus/ donquixotedelamancha and quentininquarantino had been asked at that point. Deflection on question 2 and ‘I didn’t start with this’ response to great wealth.

TinyTear · 27/04/2022 15:15

Sorry, I don't watch videos. Can we have written answers as with most chats? Thanks

SirChenjins · 27/04/2022 15:16

Agree - a transcript showing the question, poster responsible for it, and his answer will take far less than 25 mins to read.

ENoeuf · 27/04/2022 15:23

Next questions were from:

lemonswan
chiswickflow
littlemisslego
jenniferalisonphilipasue

lemonswan the chancellor congratulated you on your soon to be new arrival and littlemisslego he spends many weekends playing Lego (I think with kids).

he is also inspired to help families with young children, and young jobseekers.

Cornettoninja · 27/04/2022 15:38

I’d also like a transcript if possible. I don’t get much chance to watch videos unfortunately!

JuliaMumsnet · 27/04/2022 15:51

Transcript coming soon! And we'll also be adding some shorter clips throughout the day on to this tweet.

A true politician, just waffle, avoidance and his favourite bloody biscuit is a Maryland Cookie

That's not even a biscuit!

Oh Fgs I didn’t get as far as that. Stopped two thirds in.

@JuliaMumsnet I'm glad my question got answered but the video is not accessible. The captions are automatically generated and sometimes words are incorrect. Its bad enough that the mumsnet new design isn't accessible but also your videos are not either. You're a large company, you must have a budget to do better for disabled users?

And Rishi was really patronising when he basically said 'well done' that I'm a disabled worker. Also, Rishi thinks I can just 'wait and see what happens' whilst bills go up!

Yes I thought this! Well done, you’ve got a job 😂

TheFairyCaravan · 27/04/2022 16:34

I can’t say what I think I’ll get banned.

He didn’t answer questions, he deflected. He must be as thick as two short planks if he thinks anyone buys that he went into politics to help everyone. He’s only helping the likes of himself. And he needn’t worry about his kids paying back any of the money he borrowed, or wrote off, through the pandemic because they will probably have packed up their millions and moved abroad way before then! Angry

Antarcticant · 27/04/2022 17:05

The only question he really answered was the one about the biscuits. Grin

SierraSapphire · 27/04/2022 17:23

He's completely disingenuous answering questions. I was excluded from Covid financial support and kept watching him in the hope I'd get something, but he continually evaded questions or gave an answer that might sound convincing to someone without detailed knowledge but was in fact the answer to a completely different question that hadn't been asked. I can't bear to watch his smug face anymore.

Antarcticant · 27/04/2022 18:05

It's made the Beeb - 9th most read on the website:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61244541

BBC comments are open which could be interesting.

Soffit · 27/04/2022 18:06

Well timed in relation to getting the all clear for his dodgy dealings! 🤔

Jessica2011 · 27/04/2022 18:18

Typical just babbles through the questions

ENoeuf · 27/04/2022 18:25

All the help just in case we don’t know about it 🙄surestart vouchers, childcare payments -

passport123 · 27/04/2022 18:31

What a massive surprise, sounds like he didn't answer any questions. Glad I didn't waste 25 minutes of my life on that.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 27/04/2022 19:15

I am on minute 11 and fuck me, my blood pressure must be through the roof.

What a load of self serving, weaselly, condescending, disingenuous, evasive, patronising, false bonhomie BOLLOCKS. The sense of vicarious embarrassment watching that is just awful and cringe making.

The particularly low point was the obvious it's Mumsnet let's shoehorn this in waffle about how exciting it is that someone is expecting their first child and I must remember to mention baby classes and breastfeeding.

Oh yes; and well done disabled person for working, go you was so fucking condescending.

It is shameful.
