Hi all,
Ahead of the publication of the Ockenden Report today, we asked Mumsnet users to tell us about their experiences during childbirth, to understand if the problems highlighted at Shrewsbury and Telford- with respect to the emphasis on ‘natural’ birth - have arisen elsewhere.
In the space of just 24 hours, hundreds of you responded, and many of you took the time to share details of your experiences. One fifth of the women who responded said they felt pressured to have a natural birth. Many named the NHS Trusts responsible, and although we decided not to share those details publicly, the fact that more than 50 hospitals got a namecheck demonstrates how widespread the problem has been.
Today, we shared the results of the survey with every single Member of Parliament, with the media, and on social media, as part of our work to make sure women's voices are heard at the highest levels. We're really grateful to everyone that took the time to respond, and we'll be factoring further work in on this as we plan our campaigning over the next few months.
Thanks,
MNHQ
