Hello [santa]

As lots of you know, each year Refuge sets up a special gift list at John Lewis to provide gifts for women and children in their shelters.

If you fancy buying something off the list, here's the link.

And here's what Refuge have to say about it:

"As you may know, every year Refuge runs a Christmas appeal to collect presents for the women and children in our services, to make Christmas as special as possible for the women and children we support who are fleeing domestic violence. We try to ensure that everyone we're supporting gets around 2-3 gifts."

"The majority of women often flee their abusive partner in the middle of the night, too afraid to risk collecting their belongings. Many women arrive with little more than the clothes they and their children are wearing."

Here's the link again

Thanks all

No it's not a waste of time, all items unless unsuitable eg a toy gun would still be given. It's just that the items you donated would not be given as a complete package.

check out the update on the Project Shoebox thread; the wonderful Mogz says there has been enough to fill over 8000 boxes, that's something for every refuge place in the UK, plus cash and other donations giving many other items.

Mogz gave a list of what was needed; e.g. soap, deodorant, toothpaste etc, plus any spare toiletries so lots of unused festive smellies went to a good home. The items were then repacked to share them out; a LOT of volunteers did a LOT of work for no cash and no corporate recognition or profit.

this meant that the right stuff was sent. There were many drop off points and also a postal address; a 2kg box cost £2.80 to send.

please consider for next year.

sorry, MN.
