A truly independent enquiry into child sex abuse ?

I've been following and to some extent contributing to the current threads about the links between the establishment and paedophile rings/ cover ups.

Like lots of others I'm angry; angry that this has happened and even more angry that the proposed investigation places at it's head someone with links to the same culture of abuse and coverups that she is meant to expose. Please consider a mumsnet campaign to try and secure a truly independent review into this in a similar vein to the Hillsborough enquiry.

Did anyone know how the demo went yesterday?

I know 300000 turned up for the White March in Belgium. A size able percentage of the population.

I wonder what it would take to evoke a similar response on Parliament...

Still no response...

I posted this about the demo on another thread:
I saw some pictures on Facebook and it didn't look like there was that many people (someone said maybe 200 max). I think the problem was that it was short notice and on a weekday.

I was disappointed that it also seems to have been highjacked by our favorite MP and his followers and I saw quite a few 'say no to forced adoption' which tbh really annoys me and also seems totally irrelevant; these children were abused in care not in the homes of adoptive families.

Insomniac bump :)

Why on earth aren't more people bothered about it? Confused

Insomniac here too. I think it's because of the 'historical' tag, people want to believe this is all in the past and best forgotten about and moved on from. That's a lot easier than facing lots of uncomfortable truths.

Yes there is a historical tag on this - but pedos didnt go away in the 80;s and now we know they are even more prolific with the internet and open borders across Europe and no effective one police force to catch them.

We know children are being moved round Europe to be raped and abused.

We know children from childrens homes are still being targeted, at the very least by Asian Grooming gangs - as in Rochdale etc...

its all still very relavant today, yes I am amazed no response.

I'm no fan of Theresa May, but seems to be very committed to getting this right. All power to the MPs pushing survivors' interests.

Come on Mumsnet, let's give them support!

That does sound positive Garlic. She is also promising to consult on who should lead the inquiry.

So (from Exaro) the MP cross-party group, who have met with TM and are demanding answers are:

Tom Watson
Simon Danczuk
Zac Goldsmith
Tim Laughton
Caroline Lucas
Tessa Munt
JHe who shall not be named!

They have unanimously requested a survivor to be on the Inquiry panel. (I would like to see at least 2, personally.)

146 MPs have backed the campaign, across all parties.

Petition is at 98,320.

I have a horrible feeling we need to get it to 150,000, not 100,000.

Sad

WhistlingPot · 24/07/2014 23:25

Woo Hoo!

100 047 signed the petition!

Smile

Everything crossed this means something!

I think it's a lot of people making a big voice.

Let's keep it going to 150,000.

Oh, good news Whistling! Thanks :)

Yes - as more voices express their outrage, it strengthens those afraid to speak. Long way to go ... let's keep it up.

Time for another bump?

Another thousand signatures and still rising.

I agree. MN should get behind this.

I agree too. Probably a dopey question, but has the OP been reported to hq to bring it to their attention?

Hi everyone, we wanted to let you know that we'll be having Tom Watson MP in for a webchat this Thursday 4 September from 1-2pm.
It'll be an opportunity to discuss the petition launched by Tom earlier this year, which calls on the Prime Minister to establish a national enquiry into allegations of organised child sex abuse.
Please do post your questions for Tom on the thread here, and join in the discussion as it happens from 1-2pm on Thursday.

There is an awful lot of information about child sexual exploitation coming at us at random in the news. I have tried to tidy it up in a wiki here: vipcsa.wikidot.com
It is brief and concise, with lots of links, and puts the information in order. I hope it aids understanding of this very serious social sickness so that we can all press our MPs to take serious action to reduce it.
