Should we back the No More Page 3 campaign? Please let us know what you think...

Hello all,

As some of you will know, there have been a few on-board debates about the No More Page 3 nomorepage3.org/ campaign, and whether or not Mumsnet should 'officially' join up as a supporter.

Previous threads here here here and here have been on balance supportive but not of a sufficient consensus for us to feel comfortable putting our full weight behind the cause.

With our most recent blog post on the issue, however, support seemed a bit more clear cut and there were lots of calls for us to back the campaign.

So we thought we'd canvass support more officially and widely. Do please use this thread to let us know whether you think we should sign up.

Obviously this is by no means a precise science, but in order to try to get a representative Mumsnet view, we will be placing a bit less weight on the views of those who have signed up to Mumsnet very recently.

There are much more important campaigns out there... How about backing something like the bicycle helmet one, that one my actually save peoples lives!! Newspapers have had 'page 3's' for donkey's years & it's never done anyone any harm!!!

Jackthebodiless · 21/01/2014 21:18

Yes, please support the campaign.

CheckpointCharlie · 21/01/2014 21:28

Yep. I think you should support it.

It makes me mad, uncomfortable, angry, scandalised and faintly embarrassed.

I do not want my two DDs seeing it out and about and seeing naked women being ogled as acceptable or normal.

IndigoWoman2 · 21/01/2014 21:28

Yes, resoundingly.
Yes, there are other important causes, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't back this one. Page 3 is the thin end of the wedge of sexism. Lose it and you can start working on the next thing.

flopsytherabbit · 21/01/2014 21:28

Yes please, do back the campaign.

JammieCodger · 21/01/2014 21:30

ParsleyTheLioness · 21/01/2014 21:30

Yes, 100%. Difficult to believe this still goes on in the 21st century....

Monty27 · 21/01/2014 21:32

100%

newgirl · 21/01/2014 21:34

Back this then deal with cycle helmets another day (although local council here doing a fab job of that already)

MrsBartlet · 21/01/2014 21:35

Yes, please support the campaign.

MrsCakesPremonition · 21/01/2014 21:39

I think MN should back the campaign provided that MN makes it clear that this is just one aspect of an ongoing goal to challenge the objectification of women wherever it occurs. I would hate anyone to think that a decision to remove page 3 from The Sun is anything more than a small, symbolic victory.

TotallyBenHanscom · 21/01/2014 21:41

Absolutely support the campaign! I can't believe that The Daily Tits is still a thing in 2014 - let's leave it in the unenlightened past where it belongs.

FetchezLaVache · 21/01/2014 21:44

Yes, please support the campaign.

Coconutfeet · 21/01/2014 21:45

Mumraathenoisylion · 21/01/2014 21:46

Earthymama · 21/01/2014 21:47

I have just seen the title and not Read the Thread as just popped in.
I want you to back this campaign, please do it, it is so important that the message goes out that this is not acceptable.

I have been campaigning for this for so, so long.

janeyjampot · 21/01/2014 21:47

Yes, please support the campaign.

JadziaSnax · 21/01/2014 21:49

I support it completely and believe that it's a great campaign for MN to support.

RosaParksIsBack · 21/01/2014 21:50

Yes pls

3TeensAargh · 21/01/2014 21:51

Please please back this campaign. When I was 12 my friend's dad and his 8 yr old son used to look at the 'titties' in the paper, then look at me and laugh. I still cannot bear the feeling of being laughed at that P3 gives me, I'm 50 now and am utterly frustrated that they are still getting away with publishing it.
