as referendum is coming up ideal opportunity for reform.AV does not address issues properly. We need to address voter apathy and disengagement.i propose that we have box on ballot list - none of these, so that voters can register their anger/disgust/dissatisfaction. the minority people feel so disenfranchised that they are taking to streets to lash out at any gov as their needs/views have no recognition/power.yes there are people who will riot and cause damage just for the mayham, but many more young people are being caught up in the moment.we have poor democracy, just because it is a bit better than some countries we should not be blind to the deficts not just in the economy but to the system itself.please sign to support petition and pass it on
thanks

You've forgotten to link to the petition.

And I'm pretty sure the wording of the referendum has already been agreed by parliament. So this is too late.

Tories closed down the Number Ten petition site the week they got in.

If as I think the wording is already put down in law then you are utterly wasting your time.

rebelgran · 02/04/2011 18:22

thank you, we have a gov making policy on the hoof,it may not change the wording but there is a moral justification for everyone to be involved.otherwise the abstentions are seen as apathy and not as protest,it would be good to distinguish see lawful rebellion website. sorry i was not in touch earlier problems with computer/fb/petition so i don't see it as a waste of time.planting activist seeds so we have better democracy

Use your time usefully. There is no point in flogging a dead horse.

Btw, they are not making policy on the hoof. All policy is based on their ideology. A vile idealogy.

rebelgran · 08/04/2011 00:47

thanks, I know there is ideology behind refoms but my reference to making policy on the hoof is that conservatives are trying to placate libdems and this has made some reforms more debateable. As for lost cause the EMA u turn and NHS -pause show that there is benefit in people power. As for using my time usefully I consider that any attempt to improve the Democratic rights of people is time well spent. We have a referendum which will be a waste of money if we do not try to get a pause/reflection on wider issues- voter apathy,16yrs+ having voting rights, proportional representation, compulsory voting for referendums, protest vote box,% needed to win etc. I welcome your thoughts on this.

Yes, spend your time on things that help people to be politically literate. I think that is happening anyway in young people who hitherto didn't have a clue. And the more they are targeted by the tories, the more of them will wake up. But as Emma Goldman said, 'If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal.'

I don't think the LibDems are being placated. I don't think they are having any effect at all on policy. Clegg & co are where they are because of sheer naked greed. And that is why they will stay where they are, whatever happens.

Tee2072 · 08/04/2011 07:05

I hope any petition you write is clearer than your post, as I can barely make out what it is you want to accomplish.

Proper grammar, punctuation and sentence structure would be a good start.

Also, lots of people want this. There is probably already been one or two petitions about it. You know why nothing has been added to the ballot?

Because petitions are a waste of time and no one with any power even reads them.

If you want to effect change, talk to your MP. Get involved with a political party. Don't post bad posts to the internet.

Also, this topic is for campaigns MN has already decided to support. Don't be surprised if it is deleted.

Hi sorry if grammer not up to scratch, didn't think I was at school. I basically would like this Gov to PAUSE,LISTEN and DEFER/CHANGE the referendum.I don't know how much it costs and I don't want the opportunity wasted,we need wider reforms so that we have better democracy. I am new to blogging, need to learn computer skills and how to get this issue better raised. I have raised matters to MP's and have no confidence from past experience but thank you for suggestion as I will try again.I did join the LibDems as I wanted a Coalition Gov but I am very disappointed by their lack of integrity & courage so far! I live in hope but I am no longer a member! I have started care2 petition on Facebook but it is very slow and may have to do another one.I have set up people power uk on Blogspot.com. Thanks for your interest.
