Having two (small!) boys who come home starving after having school lunches, I wonder whether other parents feel that maybe it's time to campaign for appropriate portion sizes, as well as healthy food! In Monmouthshire where I live, all the secondary schools are contracted out to private contractors, but there is no statutary obligation on them to provide portions of any particular size, and there is no mechanism to check up on them either! We pay £1.75 to £2.00 - enough for a filling lunch in a town centre. So where is the money going? Given that these contractors are often massive corporations who need to keep shareholders happy first and foremost, perhaps a little more oversight of what's being served up is necessary??
