The Magic Key ORT

I recently posted about these books and asked why Roderick Hunt was given an MBE and not the illustrator Alex Brychta? They have collaborated for 25 years on the ORT Biff, Chip and Kipper series and wanted to know why only one half of the team was recognised in this way when they both received an Outstanding Achievement Award last year for services to Education. My son started reading these books last year and now they have become fun adventures whose illustrations not only complement the stories but also work as stand alone images. They are full of hilarious visual gags and immensely clever details which encourages a child to read the story and creates a positive experience for everyone involved. I have no connection to Alex Brychta, but as an illustrator am deeply impressed with his continued ingenuity and accomplished drawings.

It turns out that the only reason he hasn?t been honoured is because no-one nominated him! Until now. I am collecting supportive letters and comments to add to my own. Any other admirers please post here and I will forward to the Palace. Thank you.

Yes, I will support this! The illustrations are hugely hugely important to the books! And I love ORT. Fantastic way to learn to read. I used to examine those pictures and think how amazing it was that with a few lines he created so much to talk about. Yes, I will support you :) and him :)

Me too. Liked the books much better than the videos. I think they really did help DD to love reading.

me too. My eldest is now 20 so have been reading them for the last 16 years and will be for years to come as youngest is 17 months. The illustrations are what keep my interest, like finding the pair of glasses lying around in each book!

ort illustrations are fab. they make the book, and make reading the same book for the hundredth time bearable.
