Have just been watching Wall.E this morning though and reminding myself how boring it would be if we lived in a climate-controlled, perfect environment all the time....
....apparently.
shabs, we have just returned from a five-day trip to Cornwall. It took eleven hours to get there and nine hours to get back. It rained most of the time we were there. Although we onlt spent money on clothes and fuel, we are now totally skint, and Sainsbury's actually rung me today to tell me my order couldn't go through because there wasn't enough money on my card so we have to wait till tomorrow (when our Child Benefit comes) to get some shopping. The kids have had breadsticks, apples and lumps of cheese for lunch, and I am cleaning dirty bottoms with paper towels and water cos we've run out of wipes.
BUT I had the best part of a week as far away from home as possible in England, with no washing up (we used paper plates) and only one room (the caravan) to keep tidy. I met up in real life with friends I can only Facebook for the rest of the year, and I felt like a real life human being. Between rain showers the boys kicked footballs on the grass and slid down muddy hills and did things boys are supposed to do in the summer, and everytime DH nipped to the shops, he took DS4 with him, so there were periods where I didn't even have to chase after a two year old and I could just.........sit.
SO - it was completely worth it, just because it's different to normality and, like Christmas in winter, it's my focal point for every summer. I think I always mentally embellish it between times so I'm always a bit disappointed with some aspects, but that doesn't matter because I can just do that again inbetween :)
So don't begrudge the penny-pinching build up to it - enjoy it!
Right, back to climb the laundry mountain....
